Newly redone & well worth the cost as a Livonia resident!!! I paid $250 for the whole year. I'm extremely disappointed and hurt by the way my family was treated at both the Livonia and Troy…read moreRec Centers. My son met the 42-inch height requirement and has safely enjoyed similar attractions before, yet we were still made to feel uncomfortable and singled out throughout our visit. What upset me the most was watching my son cry after getting hurt, and instead of showing concern or compassion, staff looked at him, walked away, and laughed with another coworker. As a parent, that was heartbreaking and completely unacceptable to witness. No child should ever be treated with such disregard, especially when they are visibly upset and crying. Throughout the visit, my children both older and younger were watched excessively, which made us feel targeted instead of welcomed. As a Black family, the treatment we experienced raised serious concerns about bias and discrimination. I fully understand the importance of safety rules, but rules should be enforced respectfully and equally for everyone. Families come to these facilities to feel safe and enjoy time together, not to feel humiliated, ignored, or judged. I will be contacting the district and administration for both facilities to formally report these experiences and seek accountability. I hope steps are taken to ensure no other family or child is made to feel this way again.

Central Campus Recreation Building - RIP old CCRB - now under reconstruction as of May 2024

These reviews are funny, so I'm chiming in with my two cents…read more I was a UM student from 2005-2009; from 2008-2009 I lived about a 5-minute walk from the CCRB, over on Wilmot St., so I mostly went there for exercising. I remember the exercise room (with the treadmills and ellipticals, which is what I mainly used) to be a bit crowded, but I could usually find a machine. The pool was (is?) definitely older too but had at least a few lanes for swimming laps. Locker room was also older. I actually preferred the NCRB's pool, so I'd sometimes shlep down to South Campus for that, but I've heard that in the past few years they closed their pool ... so if you want to swim, I'm guessing the CCRB is your only option nowadays.

Oy. When struggling with motivation to go to a gym, this place just gives you the extra dose of…read morede-motivation you really don't need. The building is worse than my inner-city high school: it's even more reminiscent of a prison, and with worse lighting, wall colors, and HVAC systems. It is always disgustingly hot in any room, though some rooms have giant moveable fans that ease the nausea for us heat-intolerant folks. Even when it's slow (normally after 9pm is when the place stops being a mad house), you're always sharing a room with at least two other people, and they're likely to be image-obsessed meatheads and sorority girls. Granted there are others here to join me in the ranks of freaks and geeks but not enough to temper jock-fest '99. I know the point of going to the gym is to physically exert yourself, but the fact that there is no nearby parking is particularly frustrating when either pressed for time or up against inclement weather. Plus the longer the walk, the longer I have to hear passerbys talk about the epic frat party last night, bro. At least there are tons of machines and most of them in decent shape. No state-of-the-art stuff but stuff isn't falling apart either. Plus, they're open quite late which is great for last-minute stress-release. This place is free for me, but I'm about to drop some money for a rec center membership that's external to U of M just so I can be surrounded by people who make me feel more comfortable and so I can be in a building that doesn't depress me.

I enjoy going to the Summit on the Park…read more                 There is a great water park out back for the kids.  There is a wonderful wooden structure playground.  It will need to be updated soon but it's an adventure.                 The pool in the building and the workout room and the other offerings in this center are an essential part of the local community.  The banquet center is very nice and suitable for activities as weddings and public meetings.  Their support team for the rooms is first rate.   Booking is swift and easy.  Support happens from the beginning all the way to the end of your experience.  Very nicely done.                 I appreciate their lighting, sound and other technologies when I am having an event at this location.                 The media staff is experienced and helpful.  If you are going to use the kitchen areas yourself they are kept clean, neat and well stocked with the materials and equipment that you need to make any event a success.                 This location is fairly easy to get to and directions to it are easy to follow.

The two staff members were not welcoming toward us and seemed bothered by even the simplest questions. Instead of taking a moment to explain things, they told us to "refer to the pamphlet," shutting down any attempt to clarify what we were looking for. For a place that's supposed to promote health and community, the lack of basic courtesy was really disappointing. First impressions matter, and this one made it clear that customer service is not a priority here. I won't be joining.
