The venue seats around 100 people I think, and has had its share of Dutch cabaret/theater super stars, probably thanks to the patronage of people like Paul van Vliet. We tried to reserve tickets to a test run of a show by Droog Brood, but on the day of the performance, when I went to see what time it started, I realized I'd never received a response to my email. As I had booked two other things and emailed with those theaters, I guess I never noticed that this one didn't respond. I contacted them, explained that I was only in the country for three days, and that this was my only opportunity to see Droog Brood. They wrote back saying they were totally sold out, but would see what they could do. Only minutes later they informed me that they'd arrange seats!! So thank you, awesome people at Pepijn, for making this happen for us. We really enjoyed the evening, and we're so glad you were able to help us at the eleventh hour.

It's a fantastic space with great sightlines and acoustics. The theater itself is the perfect size--intimate enough to feel every bit of the drama, but large enough to have that grand, professional atmosphere. Note for international visitors: They do offer English translations, but look to the top corners of the stage for them. To keep the text and the actors in the same line of sight, try to snag a seat on either the left or right side of the hall. It's a brilliant way to spend an evening in the city!

There are a good number of LNP (language no problem) productions as well, which is good if you are learning Dutch, or even if you have no intentions of assimilating. The bar/restaurant is nice and cosy, even for groups, and serves good entrees, including vegetarian options. Decently priced, great performances, and you get to support the local arts scene. It's a good bargain.

However it is not so…read moreimportant but the bar doesn't seem equipt to handle large volumes of customers and we decided not to wait in the mad rush of hundreds of people trying to get served by 2 staff behind the bar. In my eyes this is a huge business failure as they could gain so much more profit by serving as many people drinks and snacks during the interval as they can and therefore making a huge amount of money. On our second visit we made sure we had already had drinks elsewhere before arriving and trying to use their bar. Another thing that I found strange was there is only one door into the seating area, this not only is a health and safety issue it is a major inconvenience with hundreds of people all trying to access their seats all at the same time as admission is only allowed once the announcement is made. Strange set up all round I say, but not a bad experience all round..

As you may know, my husband and I are in the music industry and attend many live concerts. Often globally if possible, and most likely Jazz. The original classical music of America. Rotterdam is host for three days on 12 stages of jazz with a pretty good mix of Artists. It's amazing! Enjoy the Netherlands contribution to Music and Jazz culture. Thank you!

Bathrooms were very clean despite a crowd of 10,000 bravo It was so cool to see the staff were also enjoying the event. Much to my enjoyment, there was yet another event happening right outside my door. Well, a hundred…read moremeters or so down to the south of me right on the Prinsengracht canal. Much of the year the canal near the Pulitzer Hotel is a serene strip of water with picturesque boats slowly gliding by. During the latter part of August is the Grachtenfestival. The area in front of the Pulitzer Hotel is closed off and a very large pontoon barge is assembled to hold a massive stage that various musical performances will be held on. The barge reaches all the way to either side of the canal and is probably about 30 meters or more deep. Suffice it to say large enough to hold an entire orchestra. The infrastructure is massive inclusive of all the necessary stage lights, spot lights, sound devices necessary to put on a major concert. The area in front of the stage where the canal is still visible is filled with boats full of festival goers who will enjoy the performances from their boats. These people will spend at least one night on the canal holding their spot up until the concerts are over. Prior to the concerts, a veritable party happens on the canal among all the boats moored there. The shore is also filled with festival goers and a festive atmosphere dominates with all the support people buzzing around directing traffic and people. The music starts later in the day so prior to that people mill about jockeying for better spaces from which to watch the show. The musical performances delight and enthrall the mass of people and command their attention with solid musical performances. If you've ever spent any time in Amsterdam you know how frequently it rains. Yes, it rained. People were prepared with umbrellas. Still, it rained. Regardless, the show went on. What a concert! It was magical with the lighting, the music and the weather all in sync unfolding a truly memorable show. In addition to this performance on the Prinsengracht canal there were other performances of varying sizes in other locations. One of which was a duet, a cellist and violinist, performing atop a houseboat located in a smaller canal a short distance to the south. It was a great weekend full of music and performances to remember.

I went there yesterday to see a friends band play and it was very nice. You can get your drinks and food at the bar 'Vondeling' which is located in front of the theatre.

The audience is mixed and the performances are in general good. Sometimes wheather can be challenge, but performers can be creative by inviting the audience on stage. Tip. Picknick baskets are perfectly fine, so do consider to take along drinks amd snacks.
