Wicormarine is a true sailor`s boatyard, within easy reach of the M27 with plenty of parking it is in an almost rural setting for portsmouth harbour with abunndant birdlife.
The harbour entrance is 30 mins away by water, time to sort out sails and warps. There is ready access to the solent with a wide choice of destinations or scope for sailing within the harbour.
There may not be a fancy restaurant or shop selling designer clothes but there is a snug where you can make coffee on cold days and a chandlery stocking all the paints, ropes, fixatives you need for day to day maintainence. For things you can`t do yourself there is a sailmaker, fabricator, shipwright and painter on site and the yard can help with many repairs. There are lockers and racks to stow outboards and dinghies and a dinghy channel giving access to the moorings and pontoons.
This is a family run yard where the staff are often about checking on the boats in bad weather and deal efficently with lift in and out using a state of the art submersible remote controlled lauching trolley.
It is not a ginn palace parking lot but a mecca for the enthusiast of the more classic yacht with plenty of boats undergoing restoration to add interest. Portsmouth harbour is always full of interest with a mixture of warships, cargo ships, fishing boats, ferries and all sizes of yachts, efficently controlled by the Queens Harbour Master: if you have difficulty parking your boat, go out midweek and see how the navy move aircraft carriers in tight spaces!
