Had an AMAZING experience here. This was my first time to Switzerland and I had done a little research into which were the top bars in Zurich and where to have the best experience. Widest Bar kept popping up and I absolutely now know why. The complimentary trail mix paired beautifully with their delicious cocktails and delicious whisky. The whisky list here is legendary and for good reason. Many rare pours and obscure bottles that I had a blast trying! The server will bring the bottle to your table and pour for you. We dined/drank on the patio which was an amazing ambiance full of young professionals which seemed to be fresh off a day of work. 10/10 recommend

While it definitely is on the more expensive side, the cocktails here are delicious and very classy. The bar itself had a nice aesthetic and really showcases the extensive selection of liquors and whiskies. An unexpected hit for us were the selection of mixed nuts and snacks, which the staff made sure to replenish liberally. All in all, and really lovely bar for a beautiful evening!

Traveling enriches the mind, opens up your heart for new experiences and sparks your creative self. Just kidding. Alcohol can do that too. Of course I have to live up to my instagram reputation of being a cocktail connoisseur and pored over web pages after web pages of cocktail spots in Zurich where I can get my drink on. Widder Bar is on the list of Cocktails and Spirits' 50 Best Bars in Europe so it had to be on my itinerary. Widder Bar is a hotel bar. BUT, erase your pre-conceived notions of a boring hotel bar. Instead, you'll find music being played on the shiny grand piano, a well-stocked gorgeous bar and luscious red leather booths to sink into. Cocktails run the gamut here, from the traditional (VESPER on the menu!), modern and experimental. Take your travel partner and go with a local so you can sampa whole variety. Although, as exciting as that prospect sounds, if you're on a budget and you only had to get ONE cocktail, let it be the Sorbetino. I loved how this was presented tableside. The bartender brings you a lime and maraschino sorbet in a cup, then he pours the rum-mint-champagne concoction on top of it. It's a very refreshing dessert cocktail that's a crowd pleaser for sure. While I prefer more classically executed and spirit forward drinks like an El Presidente, there are other lighter/fruity/herbal/sweet drink variations you can enjoy such as the La Merita and Her Worm (mezcal based), Pink Peppercorn daiquiri (some rum action) or the Bollywood for some exotic flavors. Everything was brilliantly created and tasted like a 5 star experience. I'm sure there are more exciting cocktail bars in Zurich that I can explore next time, but I'm happy to report that this one deserves to be on the list of 50 Best Bars in Europe.

I owe the night at Widder to Yelp, so I figured it was appropriate to return and praise the place, the drinks and the staff. Zürich, and its fairytale diorama landscape, had already massaged me into a state of ease throughout the day and I most definitely love being in quiet well-lit nighttime environments with no TV and douchebaggery anywhere near so finding this gem was a perfect lovely treat. It's warm and comfortable, with a knowledgable server and VAST collection of spirits. I personally love mezcal cocktails so I didn't stray far from the El Burro de los Muertes. It was just a bit too sweet for my taste but overall I really loved this place. Face it, Zürich is expensive, especially after the Swiss currency cap was lifted in January; so while the prices were a bit high, I didn't find them that unreasonable for the experience.

****4.5 stars **** Widder Bar is undoubtedly a 5 star cocktail bar by Zurich standards, but for anyone who's traveled around it does fall a bit short in execution. While I'm tempted to round up based on the outstanding service, setting, and selection, it's ultimately the drinks that carry the most weight for me and I found them lacking a bit here, despite a very well intentioned list. On a Sunday night in Zurich the list of options for late night drinking are quite limited, but even if the whole city were available I still would have selected Widder Bar as our first destination on a long evening layover excursion into the city. It exudes a sense of class that does a splendid job of personifying Zurich, where luxury abounds if you're willing to pay for it. Unlike others I won't knock them for their 20CHF+ (at the time the USD$ was about 1 for 1 exchange) priced cocktails, because as we found out alcohol everywhere in Zurich is expensive. Just know that coming in and you can avoid the sticker shock if you're from elsewhere. The pianist was playing when we arrived around 10PM, and continued for almost the entire 2 hours before the bar closed up for the night. The songs were all in English, and added a nice elegance to the atmosphere. The first thing I spotted was the massive wall of liquor, some shelves 2 deep in bottles, filled with quite an impressive selection of mostly scotch and other whiskies. It's clear what the clientele is here, and they do a damn good job accommodating them. There were many bottles I had never seen (even at DC's Jack Rose with it's 1,600 bottle selection), and many more I hope to sample some day. But, wanting to space out our drinking over the course of the whole evening we opted for cocktails. The cocktail list here is a mere one page of originals, but the bartenders are knowledgeable in dozens of classics. They've got a really neat chart to guide you in your selection of libation, detailing how each drink hits your different taste receptors (sugary, bitter, etc). For full drink descriptions just see my photos, but I can sum the 5 we tried up by saying that while all were good, most were rather one note and not entirely remarkable. I don't see another bar in Zurich doing this type of in-depth cocktail approach, so I commend them for it, but for all the ingredients in each drink I would expect them to be a bit more unique in flavor. My favorite of the evening was the Night Shade (Black Bottle Scotch, Tawny Port, Angostura, Klosterfrau Mellisengeist, Sugar, Lemon), mainly because it was the most well rounded. I was a bit disappointed in the Black Velvet (Champagne, Guinness, Bacon), because the elements were integrated in that order, whereas I was hoping for a mostly Guinness based drink. I guess that's my fault for not asking. After seeing my drink though, Suzy, who had been in a pork-abstaining Muslim country for the previous 6 months, followed by a nearly month long trip with me through Morocco (where pork technically exists, but isn't very edible when you find it), nibbled on some of my bacon and found some instant gratification. This was made incalculably better when I mentioned it to the bartender, who then procured her an entire plate of bacon, at no cost to us. That type of service (along with constantly refilling their delicious bar snack mix) on top of the well made drinks was exactly what we needed after our flight from Marrakech, and being away from Western civilization for an extended period. If you have any length of time here in Zurich, I highly recommend you pay this bar a visit for an experience worth every penny (or franc, as it were).

everything in this hotel is 5 star. the bar does not serve drinks they serve specialities. the atmosphere is very relaxed. opened pretty late for American tourist. bar food is pretty good also. recommend the empanadas & club sandwich. however like all good things it comes with a price. expect to pay $40 usd for a club sandwich. drinks. smokey whiskey sour is a must. the presentation says it all!!
Iconic bar in the ground floor of the namesake hotel in Zurich. Very distinctive decor with old wooden beams and a jillion varieties of handsome liquor bottles. Bartender was friendly although not chatty. Drinks were well prepared. Small tray of nuts, etc to snack on. Nothing in Zurich is cheap but this wasn't eye popping by their standards. Everyone in our group of 3 enjoyed the experience ( and the drinks). read more

We were fortunate to get seats without reservations on a Thursday evening. We came to get drinks after dinner. Live music was really great! Loved the vibes of the bar. Prices are high, as expected for Zurich. My husband tried the Swiss whiskey flight, but he didn't really like any of them. We would probably recommend trying some of the non Swiss whiskey. I loved my cocktail. Would definitely recommend and return again. read more

Two Michelin Star bar, of course we had to check it out! We came at an off hour, which meant our group had the entire place basically to ourselves! Really beautiful interior, nice ambiance, and great service. We had a large group of 14 people, so for them to quickly take our orders and prepare all the drinks was a feat, I'm sure! We were given free mixed nuts and bites to enjoy before our drinks as well as during. Super comfy seats! All of the drinks were delicious, and truly the service was great. We had gone to another bar and the staff was obviously trying to force everyone to get a drink - understandably, every seat counts, but some people just didn't drink. Here, there were no forced orders or hints that we should all order something. Great spot to enjoy a few drinks with friends! read more

Widder Bar is located one floor below the 2 Michelin Star Widder Restaurant, and both are part of the luxury Widder Hotel. It kept coming up in recommendations when we were researching the best cocktail bars in town, so of course we had to come check it out! We came in the early afternoon so the place was pretty much empty, and our large group was able to be seated immediately. We were given mixed nuts and other snacks to munch on, and all our drinks were delicious and well-presented. Staff was friendly and didn't hover, but they were still easy to flag down when needed. Overall, chill vibes and the perfect place to unwind and grab some drinks. Fancy bathroom too! read more
A nice quiet terrace offset from the busy streets of Zurich. We sat in a lounge area for a quick bite and some cocktails. We weren't fully impressed with the food here. We ordered chicken skewers and a steak sandwich and both proteins, though I could tell good quality, were chewy. read more

This is an extremely well-stocked bar (over 300 liquors). It's fun to watch the bartenders use the rolling ladder to access all the liquors. Excellent service and drinks. There is also a piano player, adding to the ambience. read more

This place is still swanky, but it's changed. The bar manager that I used to come here for, he's long gone and set up shop at Old Crow, the only place in town in a speakeasy setting with nice cocktails. Now, the drinks menu has completely changed. Almost the entire menu shows off their deep selection of whiskey. It used to be that it was mainly on their wall display and people in town knew them for their whiskey selection... but it was never fully written in the menu. I guess that being their cash cow, they decided to update their menu to reflect almost a majority of the menu to be whiskey. Furthermore, the cocktail selection has slimmed down considerably and they've changed their approach to cocktails. Instead of being serving serious old-school cocktails in a swanky place (like how they used to be), some of their menus have tried to adapt to more modern young feel/taste. I kind of don't feel it, as the atmosphere is a bit upscale, it doesn't go with the effort of making cocktails that are trying to appeal to a fun crowd. This place has turned into a serious whiskey bar, I guess it wants to change their focus on a different clientele. I don't care to come here for cocktails anymore. Furthermore, the mixed nuts they give now are not so tasty anymore like what they used to give (aka snack until you explode mix). Why did they decide to cut cost on this - seems very trivial yet noticable? I'm heading back to see my old bar manager down the street. read more

Widder Bar is about as swank as I've seen round these parts. To lend to the atmosphere, a pianist fills the bar with soothing tunes come evening time. Widder's ample cocktail list is comprised of both old favorites and new incarnations created by the staff. You will receive a drink exactly as you like it: shaken or stirred, traditional alcohol or a newer substitution, garnish choice, etc. The wall of booze behind the bar is quite impressive. I spent most of my time gazing at the labels in a small state of awe. The bartender was both extremely professional and friendly. When I'm in a 'high roller' kind of mood, I'll return. read more

Widder Bar is one of the best hotel bars I have been to. They serve an array of unique, interesting, and delicious cocktails. I went with a group of friends and we all ordered different items and everyone's order was fantastic. (Everyone's drinks also came in such unique glassware; my drink came in a floatie, one of my friend's drinks came in a glass shaped like a pipe, it was all very cool.) There are a lot of sh*tty, overpriced bars in this town. Oh, you're going to precisely measure out my 3 cl of below-quality whiskey while charging me Sfr. 18 for a cocktail? Seriously? But Widder Bar is the opposite. Sure, maybe they precisely measure out the alcohol, as is common all over Europe. I have no idea, because Widder Bar has great, attentive, friendly table service. Free and tasty snacks. The curry wurst was great. The cocktail list is incredibly extensive, with high-quality alcohol. The result -- for me -- was one perfect Old Fashioned. Yeah, yeah, it was Sfr. 25, which is pricey for a cocktail. But you can get a crappy cocktail for Sfr. 18, or a great one (by my very high San Francisco standards) for Sfr. 25. Your choice. Given half the people in town are here for business anyway, and are therefore probably billing it to companies, the choice (for me at least) is pretty clear. (Everyone in my party thought their cocktails and the wine list etc etc etc were all super high-quality) read more

If you're seeking perfection in a glass, this is the place to be. First and foremost Widder is expensive. $20-$25 a drink kind of expensive. This is not a place you want to hang out at all night if money is important for you. If you can get past that then everything else is fantastic. First the selection is awesome. They have hundreds of different bottles in their collection. They even had a mint Fernet Branca. Did you hear that, SF friends? (the fact why anyone would want additional mint flavor in their Fernet is a different discussion). I had a caipirinha and had to choose (with their awesome help) from multiple types of cachaca. Secondly, they make everything from scratch using the 'proper' ingredients. For my caipirinha they used white cane sugar that is apparently quite rare / has to be imported in Switzerland. Thirdly, service is fantastic. Very friendly, helpful, and perhaps a little bit "American" in that they continuously refill your glass of ice water and bowl of snacks. Also, the bar is climate controlled/air conditioned, which was nice on a hot day in the middle of a heat wave. Overall, if you're in the market for proper cocktail, this is the place to be. read more

What an amazing experience at Widder. The Bar has one of the biggest selection of Scotch Whiskey and Spirits I've seen. A little overwhelming. This is a really special and charismatic bar that's (thankfully) open after many others have closed. It has a killer spirits collection, a huge library book menu to choose from, and even some nice Swiss wines. You pay for this comprehensive and well-curated selection, but after a few days in Zürich you've probably paid insane amounts of money for things and have stopped keeping track by now. The service is lovely and the ambience is terrific, very warm and inviting. An institution. read more

The Widder Bar is a must for socialites and guests of the adjacent Hotel and often crowded, age range 30-60. It is not too big, the grand piano takes a place in the middle and helps create the typical bar athmosphere I like. Service is according to the Hotel's 5* perfect. Great choice of cigars. Check out the weekly Jazz concerts on Tuesday. To cut it short, the main attraction is their endless whisky collection. Having been myself a whisky aficionado, I can find there whatever I might imagine.. the only real negative spot is the totally overpriced rare whiskies... Take a sip for 1000+ USD... nice. but you don't need to do so, there are enough likeable at more reasonable cost. Only the hard core fan might chose such expensive stuff... Overall, this is a real great bar I often visited! read more

This cocktail bar came highly recommend by one of the best professional bartenders I have ever ordered a drink from. My name is Baden, I am a professional drinker, here is my review. No one "stumbles into" a place like this. It is sequestered under Hotel Widder, and has a very back-room speak-easy feel. My drinking companion and I where directed to a corner table... the perfect hidden lookout position for clandestine plans of taking over the world. The point here is that this place has a very private-yet approachable vibe going on. The bar is extremely well supplied, and the wait staff simply top drawer. One goes here to drink with class and style--so plan on ordering and paying for premium cocktails. At this writing, Widder Bar, could be considered the ultimate destination for cocktail consumption in Zürich. Highly recommended. read more

Of all the bars I have been in all over the world, this one stands out as the best one. Service was excellent. Formal. Bartenders are true professional mixologists. Great high end bar with great cocktails for a pricey 20 CHF per drink. The staff is awesome and is happy to make any drink or invent one for your taste. One of my favorite bars in Zürich - you get one of the best quality drinks in town. Yes it's pricy for American standards but they have normal Swiss prices. After living in the States for a while this is a place that can compete with SF and NY bars especially if you compare the size of Zürich and NY. Go there. Spend 25 bucks for a cocktail. I think we were the youngest couple in there. Nice, fancy, established cocktail bar that our grandparents would enjoy. :). The prices are right in line with all the cocktail prices in Zurich (extremely expensive). The bartender didn't know how to make my drink--with 1,500 types of liquor and a lounge that prides itself on uniqueness of beverages, this was surprising. I looked it up for him on the internet--a French martini. Although pricey, and targeting a generation or two ahead of me, we enjoyed our visit. read more

An absolute gem in Zurich! From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the sophisticated yet inviting atmosphere. The dim lighting, plush seating, and incredible jazz vibes made it the perfect spot for a classy night out. The cocktail menu is outstanding, featuring expertly crafted drinks with top-shelf ingredients. The bartenders are true artists--knowledgeable, attentive, and passionate about their craft. Drinks were perfectly balanced with bold flavors and a smooth finish. The service was top-notch, and the overall experience was nothing short of exceptional. read more

Great bar with the highest ratings, I remember good jazz nights, service was awesome, and their club sandwich just to be eaten in a moment.
