I spent last night at the Seacliffe Inn in Leamington (about 3.5 hours SW of Toronto). I stayed…read morehere for a night two years ago. It is across the street from Lake Erie, where you catch the ferry to go to Pelee Island. Here was my room ... it was a long odd-shaped long corner room. The bed was comfy. WIFI (it was speedy) and parking were complimentary. In the room, there was a mini fridge and a coffee maker. There was also a gas fireplace that would be cozy in winter. There is a restaurant in the inn and some within walking distance (within a block). There were some oddities with the room. There were no towel racks in the bathroom (same as the last time I stayed here) ... they were in a small nook next to the bathroom. There was no alarm clock so I used my cell phone to wake me up this morning. The couch was a long way away from the TV (I watched it sitting at the table). I realized this morning there was no phone in the room.

Unfortunately, I don't have many good things to say about my accommodation experience. Other that…read morethe charming, old house feel that it has, nothing much went right during our stay. The room was not as clean as we would have expected. When you open the coffee machine that they have, you can see all the dirt lining where you would put the coffee pods. The carpet also does not appear sanitized. In the following morning, we also saw a centipede crawling by the bathroom floor. I understand it is an old place, but there is some constant machine sounds whirring in the bathroom. I think it was the HVAC systems. I don't like how they do not have any staff on the property for most of the day. They are staffed only for a small window of time every day. I think from 12 noon to 5 or 6PM. There is no one at the premises to check us in when we arrived around 10PM and also no one there when we checked out the following morning around 8AM. They may be trying to save money on staff by having it this way. Whatever the case may be it comes at the expense of good, personalized service. We reserved our rooms through an online booking platform (Agoda). I do not exactly know how information is communicated between the online platform and Seacliffe Inn, but it was a absolutely horrible. We specifically selected the room with 2 Queen size beds with a defined square footage. What we got assigned was a room with only 1 bed and what I can only assume was less square space. We also requested in the booking form for a room facing the lake. We did not receive that room request and instead got a ground floor room just facing the parking lot. What purpose is a request form if it will be ignored anyway? The last thing I want to mention is that when we arrived to check in around 10PM the Inn entrance was already locked and no staff is present. We called the two numbers printed on the sign pasted on the door. I called each number once first and got no answer. When I tried calling one of the numbers a second time I finally got someone on the line. The guy gave me the door code to get in so I can receive the envelope inside with our name containing our room key. I do not like how they implemented this hands-off approach. It comes off as cheap, poor service. I also do not understand why we did not receive an email with instructions and the door code prior. I would not put the blame entirely on the online booking platform. The Seacliffe Inn management should know better to understand any limitations of the platform and have anticipated these possible cases. It adds much needed stress on guests. I would not recommend Seacliff Inn.

Didn't they hear of checking out early! I had to wake up a 75 year old woman (caretaker) so I could checkout at 7:30. There are only about 20 units. No security (dark) and you park your car in front of your place. Room was small but nicely furnished with 1 bed and new bathroom. No box spring under mattress. No fridge or microwave eventhough their website showed pictures. I had to use booking.com (Priceline) since they don't take amex unless you book there. I checked in with the restaurant staff. It was annoying to have no desk. Cable TV was included and $100 is a little steep. Lighting was very poor in the room. There was a coat rack but no dressers. They have 2 bed (rooms) and a few suites and one with a kitchen. Web site looks nicer than room. But it was clean and had new thermostat. This is better suited to vacationers (couples). They should have made it a bed and breakfast.

The staff had no particular interest in being helpful, unless asked, and even then, I felt like I was their chore for simply asking for information on the local scenery or convenience items. I was new to the area, but quickly learned that the town was small and sleepy, with all establishments closing at 9p.m. or earlier. However, there was a wedding party that chose to celebrate in the parking lot of the motel, starting at midnight. When I called to ask the staff how long was this noise going to last, I was asked (very flatly, like the person on the other end cared so little about the inconvenience and discomfort of the person on the other end of the phone) "is it bothering you"? The restaurant attached to the motel had terrible service. The wait staff got our orders wrong, we had to ask for water refills, and she took forever to come wait on us. To boot, the manager, when I explained all the instances of poor service I had received proceeded to argue with me about how there was nothing she could do, that I should have told her my service was bad when I checked into the hotel, and that she was not able to control their guests. I initially was not making complaints to have anything comped, but I think that was her assumption, and she several times over talked me, not listening to the several instances taken together and how poor of an experience I had there. I didn't want anything to be comped. I only have one opportunity to take time off work for a vacation, and this experience was so poor, that I found myself having no desire to return to the town, which was beautiful. The motel offered very little in the way of convenience and pleasure items (no pool area, vending machine, etc). But, for the money we spent, my expectation would be that there would be good service from friendly people who happened to be a family owned business. That was the furthest thing from the truth and I regret taking the advice I got to go there.

When you make a reservation you can add details about your visit - we were here for my fiancé's birthday, so I added that detail at some point. We also brought along our dog as some of the rooms are pet friendly. Check-in process was super easy and the staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable! Shout out to Erica! She let us know about a bunch of dog-friendly establishments in the area and gave our pup lots of pets. When we got to the room, we were delighted to find dog bowls out and on the floor, extra poop bags on the desk, a special cookie and a bandana for our pup, AND a birthday card! Talk about going above and beyond! Everything in our room was comfy and super clean, we had a fantastic stay. Also - you cannot beat the location. Right downtown and walkable distance to so many delicious restaurants. We were able to walk to every meal even in the depths of winter, which was a huge plus because we didn't have to worry about always getting the car out. Would absolutely stay here again!!

Sink had ring around the drain and grout was also dirty. Would've been nice to have The Joe right on site still, rather than a drive away, but the downtown location is nice otherwise.
