I like this school, but there is a really big problem with Math 97. Andrei Kolas is the worst teacher in this school because it took him approximately 40 minutes to take attendance, and also he does not teach the class at all; he just sits in his chair for 2 hours and 40 minutes of the class period, and after he takes attendance, people just walk out and leave, and he does not even care about them leaving either; he just wants us to do work on a computer for 2 hours and expects us to be able to manage all of that while he talks/argues with an old guy over the whole class; they should get rid of him. They do the Best they can here, the Advisors are amazing, I'd say you get 2 great teachers out of every 5 here. The weight room is almost never open, and the swimming pool is certainly never open. They also kick you out of the weight room if a class is in there, so don't plan on training there. The bathrooms are all fucked up the stall doors don't really close because they've been installed wrong. The way this place runs is basically like high school, like with all the security and the teachers talking down on you. if you're into that then good. None of this has ever made me want to write a bad review on the place until now... The reason why I'm writing this one-star review is because they like to waste time. Call me crazy, but If they glorify Wright College then imagine how bad the other schools are that are part of the CCC. moreover, they don't offer the program I want. As a student of City Colleges of Chicago, I am going to take a moment to express how completely offended I am that I am not able to use the entire fitness center at Wilbur Wright Campus. The fitness center hours do not include the pool. If you have a fitness center, and you have a pool, then the pool is a fitness tool as well. I am currently healing from a fitness injury where I can't get a proper cardio workout unless I swim. This is unacceptable. The charges are simply much too high for taking a class just to swim laps. Plus I wouldn't even plan on participating as I am already trained as a swimmer. I'm not risking my GPA or wasting my money just to use a pool. These services should be available to me at reasonable hours, at least 5 days a week. It's insulting to me that the only time I can use the pool is between 8:30pm and 9:30pm on a Thursday. The most inconvenient hours ever! Who wants to swim at that time? Especially as an adult with a real job and real responsibilities. I'm not interested in excuses. Only solutions. Make the pool available during the same time the fitness center is open. It's age discrimination, fitness discrimination, and student discrimination. Really you guys are ridiculous. Offer some trained fitness students a credit or two as a kind of clinicals rotation by letting them lifeguard for a few hours. read more

I taught for City Colleges of Chicago for nearly ten years. I was at Truman College. I taught for several years - no problem until Ms. Maria Ochoa was hired as an Adult Education Manager. Then the corruption and her nefarious spying began... I was teaching an ESL Level 1 Hybrid course on Saturday mornings... I assigned a simple picture book in my classroom - a book that I had used for numerous semesters - a book that I discovered in the Truman College Library. One student did not like the book and complained. Instead of supporting me - Ms. Ochoa emboldened her students and turned them against me - the Instructor. She exchanged her personal cell number with one of my students and attempted to spy on my classroom activities and procedures. She also developed personal relations with my students - relations that crossed the line. I discovered this after a couple of weeks and informed the Labor Union. Ms. Ochoa was reprimanded and confronted about her unethical and immoral actions - her response was "I am still learning." As a result, she was transferred to another City College Campus. I urge all instructors and professors at Wilbur Wright and Humboldt to avoid her... do not allow her to observe you in the classroom... either formally or informally (feel free to cite this review). Do not even allow her to enter your classroom... Time and time again her actions have proven to be unethical and immoral. She also has a history of gaslighting Instructors and abuse of power. This is the new campus of Wright College which was designed by the architecture firm Bertrand Goldberg & Associates. I worked in the architect trailer on the construction job site for about nine months in 1991, so perhaps this junior college campus is not so new anymore. The design features a low-lying pyramid and other classroom buildings with airplane-like windows. This place is literally ridiculous. I almost hate saying this bc the professors here actually care about their job and their students. The staff that work in admissions, financial aid, Human Resources, etc...don't. I've tried calling each department MULTIPLE times in TWO DAYS bc of a mess up THEY caused and NO ONE has answered the phone. Only the person at the security and what are they gonna do? Now I'm screwed with my taxes. No offense but these people should be FIRED. If you're not gonna do your job, which is to answer the phone and answer students' questions (not too hard right?), then get another job. I could do better tbh. At least I'll answer the phone. The school itself is good; all the teachers I've had are passionate and care about the students. I wish I could say the same of the advisers and the financial aid department. The advisers constantly misinform, take ages to reply to emails, and when they do reply, they push you on to someone else. I frequently have to exchange three or four emails with my adviser to get him to even attempt to help me. The financial aid office is a joke. There is a particularly rude woman I've dealt with three or four times that constantly barks orders at people waiting in line and is unnecessarily confrontational. On top of that, she cuts you off while you're trying to explain your situation and has no desire to actually perform her job in an even halfway acceptable manner. read more

Other than being architecturally intriguing, Wright College harvests the enthusiasm that "Yes, it is possible to succeed here". There is ample space on the lawn to relax on sunny days and a library that is excellent for study. Most classes are on the relatively small size and I always seem to get my questions answered! The staff seems to be exceedingly experienced, highly-educated, and professional. Especially the science and math department!! I have had to attend here to finish up some credits and I could not have picked a better place! Next semester I am taking 17 credits (moving up from 14) and know it will be quality. As a precaution, to get a truly exceptional professor, be sure to look them up on ratemyprofessor.com. Much of the Wright College teaching staff has been reviewed there. The continuing education department is intriguing as well. I find it amazing there is a class for BEEKEEPING!!! I will most likely be involved with that! There are also LOTS of classes for kids.. from six months... and onwards. The only warning I have is... when you have a class.. and you are driving... GET THERE EARLY!!!!! Parking can become an interesting escapade... There is a SEVEN story parking lot, so there is always parking. Call this place, you get the "don't give a f*#k" attitude, transferred, out on hold, transferred, and when you get some semblance of an answer to your question it's bullshit - just to get you off the phone. Adult education dept. specifically. Pretty sure I have just in person met the half wit I talked to on the phone. Standing at their "reception" I watched 3 ladies eat, clean their desk, read google news and from what I can see do ZERO work for several minutes before I had to attract their attention. I was then told that the info I was given was the wrong info, and to go to a room to register that was currently being used for a test. I attended Wright College back in 2003. I have enjoyed the experience quite a bit. I worked full time during most of my time at Wright and found the class times convenient. Most of my teachers have been excellent. While I do not remember the names, my psychology and sociology teachers were amazing. I have not had a negative experience here. When I transferred my credits to a 4-year university, the courses I took there were not as interresting or challenging (seriously) as at Wright. I thought that the quality of education was high considering the cost per credit hour. The only downside is the parking. While there is a lot and a garage, both get pretty full if you take any classes in the evenings. This however can be easily resolved by arriving a few minutes earlier. read more

Long before Wright College was built this was an empty space of land with nothing there, except the remnants of an old church and an enormous open field. I was there the day they broke ground to start construction and I was also among the first students to go there for school and later I went back and taught there. Initially Wright's innovative ultra modern feel with its gigantic steel pyramid, tubular walkways and oversized windows was surprisingly neat, but as the luster wore off the problems began. While the facility is relatively new there are many annoying problems that have cropped up. Some of the more annoying ones were things like classroom lights that would not turn on or off or worse yet would flicker during the class; or things like the elevators, which sometimes don't work or are so slow they may as well not be working. Additionally, the college is going through a period of change in its teaching and student bodies. While the college reflects the similar changes in the neighborhood, it too has its own inner climate. Over the last few years there has been a significant loss in student enrollment and the school is scrambling to get more people enrolled to make ends meet. They have also made dramatic changes to the teaching positions available; currently there are fewer faculty (full-time) teachers and more adjunct (part-time) ones. As for the student body, there is significantly more crime and violence at the college then before. (I've had things stolen from me when I was there) It almost seems the student mentality has slipped into a High School level rather than a College one too, as there is more graffiti and people looking for a fights than there are people looking for an education. Overall it's still a decent college, but with its increase in crime, violence, teaching issues and its high cost compare to schools like UIC, which is just a hair, more expensive, going there doesn't seem practicable. If you would have asked me about this school a few years ago, I would have not suggested it. But they have made some changes and I have seen an improvement. The teachers will always make time to help a student because they want you to succeed. The guidance counselors are also helpful and very friendly. They offer workshops to those who are undecided about what they would like to be when they grow up :). The tuition is reasonable and the school is clean. They offer online courses. as well, as evening or once a week classes. As far as the other students....well you get what you get when you go to the mall....a variety. There are a lot of b-boys that attend this school as well as older adults (personally, I go to study not judge/mingle with the crowd). For some reason there are several listings for Wilburt Wright College, so I just copied this review into all of them... :) I just got my BA from Columbia College in May, but in the summer of '06 I took a gen. ed. course at Wright (Human Biology with Janus). It was the first, and last class that I took at Wright, but I really enjoyed it. 1) The price is right. I paid (including books) only ~$500 for my summer course at Wright, whereas in summer of '05 I took two courses at Columbia and had to pay over $3,000 for that privilege. 2) Even though it is a City College of Chicago the coursework was at least on par with the other colleges I've been to. It was challenging, especially a 4 credit hour course in the short summer semester. 3) I may have just had one of the best teachers at Wright but I felt like he wanted us to succeed, he really loved teaching, and did I mention he is probably the only "community college" prof. to ever publish... However, my husband used to go to Wright many years ago and said for him it was a lot like high school....they do more hand holding here than most colleges, and A LOT of the students are from the area (Notre Dame, Resurrection, Maine South, etc.) Plus since they are a community college and offer a lot of professional programs, etc. you do get the kids who really shouldn't be in college, but haven't found that out yet. Overall though, I'd take another course, especially with Janus. read more

I haven't had any issues with teachers. They were all great up to this point. The major problems in this school come from the advisors and the staff, particularly in financial aid. Don't go there expecting them to help you. They work like they hate their job. I've met with 3 different advisors and they were all arrogant for no reason. Their titles should change to online instructor. That's what they will do. They won't be helpful in answering your questions or advising you in academics. If there are any good advisors at the school, I would love to meet them. The financial aid staff just always seem to be in a bad mood. This is enough to not even go to the school. Students should be supported by their school. Pick a different school that cares about its students from the start. read more

I attended wright 11 years ago and decided to go back. This time around it was bad to say the least. For two weeks, they had me back and forth asking me for my tax transcripts and other information to get my name changed. Every time I had a question I was sent somewhere new with massive lines. When it was my turn, the employee was so rude, annoyed and didn't help me at all. The orientation was so rushed, and some young adults were talking and laughing through the whole thing. One person left through the emergency doors, and the alarm rang. The employee from financial aid was screaming at the man. I couldn't deal with all of that so I went to another college. I got everything done in one day, registration and financial aid. read more

I've had a mixed experience here. I took two continuing ed. classes, a wedding flower class and a cake decorating class (I'm having a DIY wedding). The wedding flower class was fantastic. I can't say enough about it, and that's coming from someone who used to think the emphasis on flowers at weddings was way overblown. The instructor is a seasoned professional and is totally knowledgeable, plus, he keeps up with the latest floral trends (probably because he's an actual florist). During the first class, he had us make an awesome hand-tied bouquet that I'm planning on re-creating for my actual wedding. He's also great at answering specific questions that aren't exactly related to the flower projects in class. The cake decorating class is another story. I have a Master's degree, so I've taken a lot of classes in my lifetime, but I've never just stopped going to one...until I took this class. The teacher is clearly not a professional baker and knows nothing about the business...she just appears to be someone that took the Wilton cake decorating class many years ago and just does it for fun. First off, she told us to make icing with the awful meringue powder (something no professional pastry chef would ever dream of using). Besides not knowing the latest trends in cake decorating (even with buttercream, although everyone seems to be using fondant now), she's an awful teacher. She doesn't clearly demonstrate OR explain the decorating techniques (only says "No, you're not doing it right."); plus, she hardly works with her students, rather she spends the classroom time doing her own decorating creations and walks around the class showing them (and they were cheesy decorations that I wouldn't even use on a one-year-old's birthday cake). To top it off, you're charged a $10 equipment fee, but yet, have to buy all your own equipment!?! This class is a total scam and I feel ripped off, both of my money and my time. I've told several people not to take this class, just to get the Wilton tips and decorating book and it'll probably produce the same results. So, the flower class really impressed me, and the cake decorating class confirmed some of my long-held suspicions about Wright. read more

I stopped attending school for 3 years because I thought it was unnecessary, however I couldn't have been more wrong. I decided to go back to Wright and give it another try. Some of the students are a bit on the immature side, it does feel like high school. I made the best of it, I only conversed with the students that actually wanted to learn and would shoot for A's and I usually sit up front by the teacher, since most of the students that do not want to learn are usually in the back. It is a very diverse student body, hispanic, black, white, euro, indian, pakistani, asian, middle eastern. You will have no problem fitting in. In my 2 semesters here I have took 7 classes, 4 A's, 2 B's and one C. I am not the smartest person in the world but I have realized studying an hour a day and paying attention in class will get you an A at Wright. If I can do it, you can do it, trust me!! The teachers try their best to make sure you understand the material. Just make sure to use ratemyprofessor.com, there are some horrible teachers at Wright that are only there to collect a paycheck. Would of given a 5 star but the building is out dated, every college should have wi-fi in every class. Getting tasks done by the office takes forever, they are a bit understaffed. Some of teachers I have read about should not be teaching. I also believe student should maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA to stay enrolled at Wright. I've taken a number of classes @ Wright College. The data processing courses of the 90s were challenging. The CAD class that I took a couple of years ago was outstanding. The teacher & her boss were always availalbe, & very helpful. Currently they offer basic home maintenance & repair classes taught by the local handyman (yours truely), as well as a number of very interesting & useful continuing ed classes. Maybe the economy stinks, & maybe there are no jobs out there, but... if you look at any of the city colleges, they all have 2 year programs that will get a graduate into the work force in a career that will not go the way that manufacturing has gone. Maybe they are not glamorous or lucrative jobs, but they are good enough to pay the bills while you're looking for that 'dream job'. read more

I encountered several professors now who were extremely rude, unresponsive, and unrealistic in their expectations. I would not recommend this school at all. Spend the extra money and go elsewhere. If gen.ed. is what you want, it's alright. Teachers are good and try hard. As an adult returning to school, I was pleasantly surprised at the response of both teachers and students. That's the good news. Unfortunately, after completing my pre-reqs for the Medical assistant program, things fell apart. It took weeks to get teachers and classrooms in place at the Humboldt Park campus and once they did, the right hand still didn't seem to know what the left hand was doing. The instructors were great, but the program is NOT ACCREDITED, which was shrugged off when we were attending. Several more savvy students determined that the Latino Institute had an accredited program and transferred mid-course. Not so for those of us non-Latino students. We got good internship sites, but can not join the professional AAMA organization without taking the program completely over again at an accredited site. My understanding is that the importance of accreditation is still being minimized on campus. You get what you pay for. read more

I had amazing professors and a solid education. Don't complain about the tuition most four year universities are $700-1000 a credit hour and thats being generous.
