3 days in the Yarra Valley and this trip I must say I struggled to find a good soy latte but…read moreHabituel hit the right spot.  Most impressed also with the baked goods on offer for breakfast.  We selected a delicious choc & raspberry muffin & sour dough toast with vegemite.  I liked that the toast came with the butter & vegemite on the side which is how we do it at home but isnt always the case in Aussie cafes.  Service was excellent & friendly.  Our only wish was that we had found this on our first and not last day so that we could have tried a few of the other great looking baked goods on offer (and had one of their excellent coffees every morning!)

It's probably because of the huge signage that people recognize. Plus, in coming here, you know you'll get good service and food at a good price. For savoury, I usually go for the spinach and ricotta roll. I have tried their chicken pie, like most of their pies, they all have that standard crumbley crust. And then you get to the sweets. Their is no shortage of what's available to pick from. The Dame Edna with cream with subtle and light enough. The vanilla slices are massive, the biscuits are always a huge hit. It seems most of the Beechworth Bakeries offer bottomless coffee and tea. The Healesville café is a huge space that people are always bustling in and out of. And with most bakeries, you could feed a family and not break the bank, but still leave satisfied.

There is indoor and outdoor seating available, altho indoor seating was a bit limited (especially for tables; plenty of bar/stool seating). Free still & sparkling tap water available. This place is perfect for a bite after a rigorous bike ride or hike. Service staff is friendly (like all of Aus that I've encountered). Not open everyday so check the hours before you go! Ordered the spinach, ricotta and feta pie with a side of daily salad (green bean and a bunch of other veggies in vinaigrette dressing). The pie came with a side of homemade chutney and the serving size was pretty big (for a pie). Even though it was filled with cheese, it didn't feel heavy in the stomach. My partner ordered the sausage apple roll (made from free-range Victorian Pork) and it was the biggest sausage roll I've seen. Jam packed with quality meat and also served with a side of homemade chutney.
