It's in a little neighborhood right by a school and there is a parking lot as well as street parking. The park has a baseball field, a big grassy field where people were playing flag football, a little gazebo, a community garden, a playground area, and a small and large dog area. Unfortunately, when I stopped by the dog park was locked because they were spraying for weeds- the plus side is that this means the park is well maintained. From the outside it looked really nice, a large space with plenty of grass. Since the park is right next to the school it is very busy with families and people playing in the larger areas/fields. It isn't a huge park, and it wouldn't be great for walks unless you're wanting to walk in the neighborhood around it but for what it is, it's a great park.

Due to popular…read moredemand, local residence requested more community gardens due to the fact that " Fremont Community Garden " which is the nearest community garden has a 4 year waiting list ! The garden was named after Brooks Truitt whom was a longtime mid-town activist fighting for the preservation of historic sites in and around the City of Sacramento. The new garden comprises of 25 10 by 10 plots plus 3 raised plots with wheelchair access. On site you will also find a tool shed, compost bins, and seating area for breaks, lunch and relaxation. The garden is managed by the City of Sacramento Parks & Recreation. Each plot is rented out for a yearly basis for a small fee. This garden will eventually be connected to Truitt Bark Park which will also have a 3000 sq ft plaza for social gatherings. What a wonderful addition to the neighborhood !

A few picnic tables & bbq pits too. A nice walking path runs through the park area. I noticed a previous review stating there was not a playground. This is true however this is a park- all parks don't require playgrounds to have fun.

This particular one is called "Fremont Community Garden". Fremont Community Garden is comprised of 52 plots. Each plot is rented out to local residences on a yearly basis. Rent is based on size of the plot. Rent for the small plots are 15 dollars a year, while the larger plots rent out for 30 dollars a year. A 25 dollar deposit is required at time of signing but is refunded to you when you leave, as long as you leave the plot in good condition. These plots are managed by a member of the Garden Advisory Board. What a wonderful way to meet your neighbors, and to reap the harvest of your hard work ! The gardens are also 100% organic.

There was a community event here and they brought a bunch of activities for children, including a couple jump houses. There is a child day care next to it, a apartment complex and a big open field waiting for a developer for something to build. The park has a huge soccer field with 2 goals with nets still on them (dont see many places like this do to vandalism and not being replaced )also a basketball ball court with nets on the hoops too. Thats a slam dunk for me. I have played basketball with no nets and its a little tuff when people start arguing if it went in or not, but thats not a probelm here they got the nets. Now you can only argue if there are fouls or not. Then they have the childrens playground, pretty clean and on good condition for what i saw. Few swings, slides, play area and its all enclosed with a little fence all around to keep the lil ones from full sprint out of there. There is no restrooms and a partially working water bubbler, but your pretty close to some stores around the corner on north gate blvd.

Within this particular park are a total of 40 lots . The lots are rented out to local residents for a small yearly fee . With warmer weather still here in Sacramento. Everyone's garden is in full bloom and producing wonderful flowers, fruits and vegetables . Within the confines of the park is a community gathering area with picnic tables and shade supplied by a huge pine tree. Here one can sit and relax after a hard days work in the garden. There is even and area for kids to play and to garden. All the garden area is surrounded by a fence and the entry gate is locked. Only renters have access to the gardens. Coming back to this neighborhood always brings back a lot of wonderful childhood memories ! This part of Sacramento still looks the same as it did some 50 years ago. "Frozen in time !" Compared to other community gardens that I have visited, "Southside Park Community Garden "is by far the most productive!
