Llanishen village used to be only wooded farm land in A. D. 535. There was a Battle known as the Battle of the Heath where the Welsh Celts ended up fighting the Normans in 1089 in the north settlement. As you can rightly see all of these small areas that I have talked about in some of my reviews do have quite a lot of Welsh history to them and there is much, much more which has yet to be heard. These areas include; Rhiwbina, and Cyncoed. They are the ideal tourist spots, where you will be able to learn many things about Wales that you may never learn elsewhere and perhaps would not expect to hear at all. So I recommend this area as a must, place to visit for all people not just for tourists. There is so much to see and do there.

Firstly you have to do a bit of safety briefing an get used to the bikes ect, but then you get to follow the instructors out around the farm over different terrains, through the wood and such. They tailor the tour to suit the ability of the riders so don't worry if you've never been before. Trips last an hour or an hour and half, may not sound a lot but you'd be surprised by the aching the next day! They provide all the gear to keep you dry and safe. They also do other activities too such as clay shooting and gorge walking and can tailor make your Hen/Stag weekend events.

For Cardiff residents, this outdoor activity centre is practically on the city's doorstep, and…read morewhile the scenery isn't quite as striking as that of the nearby Brecon Beacons (where many Cardiffians travel to for outdoor pursuits) it's still quite an attractive area, and it's far more convenient. The centre has good quad biking facilities but lots of groups go there to do other outdoor activities such as archery, clay pigeon shooting, and cross country nature trails. They also arrange activities in other locations (including the Brecon Beacons!) such as gorge walking and even chocolate making - popular for hen parties. My friend went here to do archery, starting off with a training round on easy 'training bows', then moving on to a second scoring round with proper field target bows. It was raining, but they have an indoor barn set up to use, so it's a pretty good all-weather activity. She really enjoyed it, and it only cost about £12 per person (she was in a group of about 6). Her office is now planning a clay pigeon shooting jaunt there!

It is a charity that aims to make the countryside and the farm park as accessible as possible for everyone - and as a result it's open very day from sunrise to sunset and there's no entry charge (donations are welcomed). With more than 300 animals (including donkeys, pigs, goats, sheep, rabbits, hens, ducks, horses and cows) and a cosy visitor centre and café, it's a great day out not only for families with young children but also for any animal lovers, young or old. If you're really keen, they are also always looking for volunteers to help out there with the animals. For groups the farm also has accommodation for up to 30 people, and some on-site sports and music facilities. In addition, the charity works with disadvantaged people including adults with learning difficulties, and young people who are struggling with conventional schooling.

This makes it all the more worth an afternoon or a day out to, depending on which day of the week you attend the place. The place is surrounded by countryside; you could say that without the countryside ever existing, that this place would never exist. For it depends on its surroundings to survive... It is free to enter and they have a cafe to sit outside in or inside and to get hot and cold drinks and food. The people are wonderfully welcoming and chirpy. The whole area is made up of peace and tranquillity scattering through the lands atmosphere. You can park your car on sight. They do have plants and herbs that you can buy to take away with you to your house, for reasonable prices. There are many animals that are located they're such as; pigs, rabbits, chip monks, sheep, a goat, chickens, and plenty of ducks. Sometimes they have baby lambs; donkeys, horses and bulls there. They also have many workshop classes there also, such as; Pottery, Screen-printing, wood work, IT skills are taught, and even some community projects. These events are only take place on certain days of the week. They also have a small outdoor theatre that they also only use very rarely, gardens you can go round and a small play ground. I recommend for all to visit, but particularly it is a brilliant visit for parents with children.

In Winter salmon and sea trout swim upstream and make spectacular leaps up the Black Weir, whilst in the Summer months students float down stream on lilos and other inflatables, clutching beer cans tight. Canoeists cut through the water all year long and water bus tours travel from Bute park to Cardiff Bay and then onto Penarth Marina. A few paddle in the Taff, but most don't swim. Men wade out into the shallow waters to go fly fishing. Cormorants can regularly be seen perched on rocks, oily wings outstretched to dry, if you're lucky you may catch glimpse of an otter, a minx or even a kingfisher. What other City but Cardiff can you find such a beautiful, well used river rich in wildlife?

I got to see the river runs from Millennium stadium, onto Bute park and up to Cardiff Bay up to Parnath. The river is soooo peaceful and serene. I know I saw a few ducks on the river too. The water bus boat runs though it as well. I got to admire the river on the bridge as well, as well as walk by it in the park. You do see others cycle, walk, run and picnic by the river too. As a visitor, the Taff river was one of my highlights in Cardiff, I look forward to seeing again.

This is truely beautiful countryside. There is a place where you can get refreshments which is not too pricey, you can also pet some animals such as bay Guinea Pigs, Rabbits,Cattle, Ponies (my favourite) Sheep, and more. There's a huge greenhouse full of more exotic plants that you have to pay to get into, I think. They also sell bird seed at the entrance to this greenhouse for something like 20p if you want to go and feed the ducks. Last time I did this there was no one manning the seed bags, some people may have seen this as an opportunity for some free seeds, which can be too tempting for some, but our conscience kicked in and we made sure to leave our 20 pence pieces. I regretted this later as I didn't have enough for the bus home. True and less than exciting story.

After you've walked around Roath Park's lake in the middle of a hot day, you will be a little disappointed to discover that the Pleasure Gardens are not one and the same. However, the Gardens are gorgeous on their own. It is a completely beautiful little park, quite quaint in some ways as it has a little river running through the middle of it. However, it also has a basketball court and a couple of tennis courts. There is also a bowling green. There are a lot of trees and you'll feel as though you're walking through a little woodland, something that I really miss living in Cardiff. Also, birdsong from birds apart from seagulls - lovely.

Called after Saint Patrick who roamed the area in the 9th century, this is a lovely little woodland…read moretrail close to the lake at Sandy Park. It was created a couple of years ago and is a great haven for birds (including the chiff chaff, willow warbler and blackcap) and small animal species. There are several animal sculptures to be found throughout the wood, all created by local sculptors, some of which are based on animals found in the ancient Welsh story "The Mabinogion". My favourite is the wild boar which is made out of recycled metal (see my photos).
