We called quite a few different masons and contractors we found through internet searches and were shocked at how few actually called us back. We got a quote from one other mason, but weren't thrilled that he would charge hourly and thus the potential range in cost for this project was pretty big. As luck would have it, we were looking at stone and someone there recommended Dustin at Fireside. We were impressed with his professionalism right off the bat. He gave us quite a bit of detail at the amount of time and labor the project would involve and told us he'd email us a quote for the entire project. The quote we got had everything broken down (stone pickup, prep, demolition, cleanup, etc.) which was great. All the communication and professionalism in the world doesn't mean anything if the actual work is subpar, and I'm happy to say that our fireplace is absolutely gorgeous. He took the time to hand select bricks for best color and is even color matching the mortar to match our older home's existing mortar. Good project planners would have postponed, but Liftech took down a section of fence (creating a hazard for our dogs), parked a backhoe in our yard, and damaged our neighbors property in the process. Then it was too wet to work - so this mess sat there for weeks. Once work started, it must have been the practice session for the guy on the backhoe - they ended up damaging our seamless steel siding, requiring replacement of a large section of siding, which caused a delay in project completion. Replacing a basement window with an egress window should've been easy - but the crew tossed the removed window onto our rock landscaping, leaving another hazard for visitors with small children, us, and our dogs.. Despite our patience with them while their heavy equipment was parked on our yard, Liftech was unwilling to wait until our siding repairs were complete for final payment. We explained repeatedly that we were waiting for final invoicing from the siding contractor (by now we were not confident they would reimburse for excess expense for repairs) - but Liftech filed a lien against our house instead of having an adult conversation. Then last fall while doing yard cleanup, we realized that they had left a gap between the foundation wall and base plate of our home - full sized leaves were blowing into our basement. Their response: Not our responsibility - go to Home Depot and fix it yourself. Gee, it seems like after paying them this much money they could've restored the house to a safe, sealed condition. Save yourself some heartache and hire someone else.

This would not have been a major issue, as delays do happen. However, in June, it seems they never ordered the new stone, and they failed to show up on the scheduled date. After several emails to them, they agreed to a refund (though they wanted to be compensated for their time). They have not sent and are now avoiding us and non-responsive to calls, emails or texts.
