We called quite a few different masons and contractors we found through internet searches and were shocked at how few actually called us back. We got a quote from one other mason, but weren't thrilled that he would charge hourly and thus the potential range in cost for this project was pretty big. As luck would have it, we were looking at stone and someone there recommended Dustin at Fireside. We were impressed with his professionalism right off the bat. He gave us quite a bit of detail at the amount of time and labor the project would involve and told us he'd email us a quote for the entire project. The quote we got had everything broken down (stone pickup, prep, demolition, cleanup, etc.) which was great. All the communication and professionalism in the world doesn't mean anything if the actual work is subpar, and I'm happy to say that our fireplace is absolutely gorgeous. The biggest concerns were the lack of proper…read moresubgrade preparation, the lack of transparency, and the difficulty getting clear, consistent answers throughout the process. I specifically chose and paid extra for high early cement because my goal was to regain access to my garage parking as soon as possible. I expected clear guidance on the product's performance and realistic timelines. Instead, I received conflicting information ranging from not being able to walk on the concrete for 48 hours to not being able to park on it for anywhere from 2-10 days. When I asked for clarification, the responses were vague. Liftech's production manager stated, "There are no specific specs for high early since it is mixed with concrete at the plant," and also said, "There is varying information because no concrete is created equally." I would expect concrete professionals and concrete plants to have more consistent information regarding the product being installed. Another major concern was the subgrade preparation. Liftech subcontracted the concrete work, and when the crew arrived, they did not even have a compactor onsite. I asked the workers if they planned to compact the subgrade, and based on their responses and actions, it did not appear that proper compaction was part of their plan until I contacted their Project Manager and requested that a compactor be brought to the site. A video documenting the work can be viewed here: https://youtu.be/YBubb-Wx-ac. In the video, it appears that only about 50% of the area was properly compacted, with some areas not compacted at all. The subbase also does not appear to have been watered down as part of the preparation process. The video speaks for itself regarding the preparation that was completed before the concrete was poured. For a project of this size and cost, I expected better communication, transparency, and attention to detail. Unfortunately, my experience left me questioning both the workmanship and the information provided throughout the process.

Unfortunately, they fell far short. The following is a list of the shortcomings as we experienced them: 1) Multiple attempts to get the imaging of our home and surrounding properties for the initial design and consultation phase. The technician that came to the property had to be here three times before they got all the measures and images correct - in the end, they did not get the existing/remaining plantings in the drawings. 2) The design did not consider the topography and drainage needs. We had to demand a review of the property to get them on board. 3) The design consultation was held on Zoom - no problem there. We had to send the design back several times before they incorporated all of the elements we asked for. We did not ever land on a "wonderful" design and they still have not provided a comprehensive plan including irrigation needs and the existing elements of our landscape that would not be adjusted. 4) When we asked for the delivery of designs that met the promised criterion, they tried to collect more money. They considered the times we had to send the plans back due to their mistakes, a part of the revisions. 5) They were regularly slow to respond to email - it took all summer to get our plans in hand. 6) The plan is nothing outstanding - it's a pretty boring plan without achieving the look and feel we described in our multiple meetings. It was as though they did not want to hear what we were asking for. I do not recommend this company for design services. We remain dissatisfied and do not feel this was a good value for our investment.

After several emails to them, they agreed to a refund (though they wanted to be compensated for their time). They have not sent and are now avoiding us and non-responsive to calls, emails or texts. We have no choice now but to report them to the police for theft.
