When BEZT, the artist, one half of the Polish street art duo ETAM CRU, painted this mural in 2015 it was his largest work to date. Since then, it has become something of a Providence landmark, appearing in countless selfies and Instagrams. Its photorealistic quality evokes BEZT's admiration for Norman Rockwell, while the surrealism of the rat pays homage to the street art tradition of Basquiat. This calm, quiet moment is a stark juxtaposition to the busy streetscape around it, inviting passersby to pause and reflect on its beauty. If you look closely, you can create a story in your own head about what is happening here.... A young man hunches over a table. He wears a purple short-sleeve button down shirt with a pattern of petite pineapples and triangles of sliced pink watermelon. The table wears a cloth covered with a pattern of pink and teal diamonds. He burrows his chin into the crook of his bent left elbow while gazing towards his outstretched right arm, at a golden ring with an emerald jewel he's tossed slightly in the air. A rat with a dark grey coat and a tiny crown above his head sits, engaged, on the man's left shoulder just behind his ear, also gazing at the ring. The work of art is about four stories tall and covers the entire width of the building, about 100 feet long. It's a favorite piece during art walks and city tours in Providence.

Fantastic light show hosted by the Picozzi family at their home in an unassuming neighborhood in…read moreWarwick. The lights are synced in time with vintage and modern day holiday tunes. They ask for donations to the Tomorrow Fund assisting children and their families receiving care at Hasbro hospital. My children of varying ages (16-10) are in awe of the continuous firework-like display. Long wait in the single file line to reach the prime viewing spot. But you can tune into 97.1 for the sneak peeks as you approach. Just like the drive in! Use the restroom and bring smacks for the kiddos (and yourself). Great cause, great show to thaw you from the holiday bustle and spend some time with your loved ones.

This is an absolutely fabulous Christmas Light display put on by a local family on a typical…read moreproperty in the middle of Warwick. It brought our family a lot of Joy during this holiday season. Our daughter is still asking us to go every night. I absolutely love that everything out is handmade in some way. I also love that he has taken the opportunity of Attraction and turned it into a opportunity for supporting a local charity. Good fun no cost except the drive. I suggest everybody should stop by. I must also add that I can appreciate his out calling for people to be courteous of his neighbors and to turn off your lights when you are enjoying the show!

College Hill is a historic neighborhood of Providence, and one of six neighborhoods comprising the…read morecity's East Side. It is roughly bounded by South and North Main Street to the west, Power Street to the south, Governor Street and Arlington Avenue to the east and Olney Street to the north. The neighborhood's primary commercial area extends along Thayer Street, a strip frequented by students in the Providence area. We enjoy walking around this area during our morning or afternoon strolls and enjoy the beautiful colonial architecture throughout. The buildings are very well kept and renovated and many of them are part of the Brown University or the Rhode Island School of Design college. College Hill is the most affluent neighborhood in Providence, with a median family income of nearly three times that of the whole city. Portions of College Hill are designated local and national historic districts for their historical residential architecture. In 2011, the American Planning Association designated the neighborhood one of the "Great Places in America". The toponym "College Hill" has been in use since at least 1788. The name refers to the neighborhood's topography and numerous higher educational institutions: Brown University, Rhode Island School of Design, Pembroke College, and the since-relocated Bryant University. Prior to Brown University's 1770 relocation to Providence, the area was known as Prospect Hill. College Hill boasts architectural styles from the 18th century onward, including residences and institutional structures. As Providence's colonial core, the neighborhood contains a number of the city's oldest structures. Among these are the Governor Stephen Hopkins House (1707), the Benjamin Cushing Sr House (c. 1737), the Jabez Bowen House (1739), and the John Corliss House (1746). College Hill is particularly noted for its 18th and 19th century mansions, many of which are situated on or near Benefit Street. Among these residences are the John Brown House (1786), Nightingale-Brown House (1792), Edward Dexter House (1795) and Thomas P. Ives House (1803), Corliss-Carrington House (1812), Thomas F. Did you know that the 2 coasts are also bound by 2 Giant Forks? One is standing upright & the other one is standing upside down. You've heard that expression take a right or left at the Fork in the Road. Well they've taken that geographical driving instruction, that's also a culinary eating utensil & turned it into a wooden statue. This is one of The Secret Hidden Gems of America that most people have never been to or even heard about before. The Giant Fork in the Road is 11 foot tall & is located in Westport Massachusetts which is about an hour outside of Boston. This Funky Flatware Art Piece was built in 2010 by Tom Schmitt. The 11 Foot Tall Giant Wooden Fork resides at the intersection of River & Old Harbor Roads in Westport. It is made out of white pine & painted silver to resemble metal. Tom's wife Kate was totally behind the project as well. Now as Cool as this sculpture is, they do something Special for the Holidays here. On the 4th of July they topped the Fork with a 6 Foot High Hot Dog. On Valentine's Day it's decorated with hearts. On Christmas it wears a Santa's Hat. We Americans Love our Wacky Road Side Attractions! LOL! Now the Fork Saga doesn't end here, it continues onward. If you travel West my friend for a mere 3,000 miles, well 2,986 miles to be exact, you will stumble upon the other Fork in the Road on the West Coast. The Pasadena California Statue stands at 18 feet tall with its prongs standing downwards. So the West Coast Giant Fork is Straight Down; The East Coast Giant Fork is Straight Up. The Fork Saga doesn't end there it continues onward again. There are some other Giant Forks around the country located in San Diego, Kentucky, Oregon, New York & the largest one is in Missouri. They all have their individual stories that need to be told by someone. So if you're in the Massachusetts/ Rhode Island area check out this Fork in the Road spot. Also to make it worth your trip, there's a great ice cream shop about 15 minutes away. It's called The Eskimo King in Swansea MA. It has over 350 flavors of ice cream & has been dishing out sweat treats since 1957. They also have a special retro mascot. You can read my review & more details of that place as well. Now since I visited here in Westport word is the Fork sculpture was stolen but luckily it has been recovered in Rhode Island. The Police are investigating & The Fork Bandits are still at Large. These Giant Forks in the Road really put a Smile on People's Faces. Everybody gets out of their vehicle & takes a picture. Do you have a Fork in the Road in your state? The oldest of…read morethe old King Philip's War was a nasty affair with atrocities and lots of horrible things occurring on both the Native American and English sides. Towns were burned and people murdered. No quarter was asked and none was given. One particularly brutal incident was called Nine Men's Misery. It started on March 20, 1676, when Capt Piece of the colonists let a group of troops after what was left of the Narragansett Tribe. The troops got a bit too over confident and walked right into an ambush and were slaughtered by the Narragansetts. Virtually all of the troops were killed but nine managed to survive the battle and were captured, tortured and then killed. Not exactly unexpected considering what the English were doing to the Narragansetts. Most of their villages were burned and the women and children executed . When other English troops found the bodies of the dead captives. they immediately buried the bodies and put up a monument site of rocks over the graves so the memory of the incident would never be forgotten. The pile of rocks have been tended to ever since and is now considered the oldest veterans memorial in the country. It's not exactly an exciting or aesthetically stunning memorial but it an extremely spooky and fascinating place to hike out and actually find. The area has lots of cool hiking trails besides the one leading to the memorial but the bugs are incredibly bad in these woods. Lovely stone walls and beautiful trees, this would probably be a great place for a winter or fall hike. A thoughtful place to reflect and remember what it was like back then during these horrible wars. Right and wrong, good and evil are just words. Pain, death and suffering was the reality.

The windmill was really cute, the property was very well groomed and the flower gardens were lovely. There were little foot bridges as well as a nice big duck pond! The Spanish-American Veterans Memorial in James Tansey Square is a striking and quietly dignified…read moretribute, perched on a traffic island where Pleasant Street meets Plymouth Avenue in Fall River. Despite its modest footprint, the monument commands attention--a solitary soldier stands atop a granite pedestal, rifle in hand, gazing forward with a posture that suggests both vigilance and reflection. And it looks *exactly* like the one in Providence RI down to the same plaque on the base. The sculpture itself is traditional in style. The soldier's uniform and gear are rendered with care, and while the figure is not oversized, it carries symbolic weight. At the base, a small bronze plaque adds context: "Spanish War Veterans," with the years 1898-1902 and references to the Philippine Islands, Puerto Rico, and Cuba. A small plaque reads, "Erected by the citizens of Fall River, Massachusetts in memory of her sons, who on land and sea served their country in the war with Spain, the Insurrection in the Philippines and the China Relief Expedition. 1898-1902.
