My immigration journey started when I was 7 years old, when my father was assigned to the US subsidiary of his employer. Fast-forward 11 years, and at age of 18, my parents and I, we received our permanent residency. There, my status stood for 3 decades, because I really didn't see the need to do anything about it. Foreign applicants have tendency to go to a lawyer who speaks their own language or who come from the same country as himself/herself. That is a pitfall. This is the United States! Your judgement could be wrong to begin with-- if you visit Mike's office, you will notice that administrative people there are very very kind. Sometimes, when you call an obgyn's or plastic surgery office, an older receptionist answers a phone--the voice could be a croak with straightforward tone, but actually they could be the sweetest, most experienced people-. My brother and I had a complex case relating to my permeant resident card ( previous J-visa status) and entering into removal proceedings. Mr. Wildes and his team were very good salesmen. Their approach to case was not how to solve the problem, but rather how we can apply a bandage. He was happy to charge $7500 retainer for "Review and Research". The best they came up with was offering to get us "prosecutorial discretion". Which means the government was choosing not to prosecute your case and you are in limbo for the rest of your life. The government can later on choose to prosecute your case. Once I had discussed their team's legal strategy with different attorneys, I found out two things: 1. prosecutorial discretion is easily granted to a lot of people even you went with any lawyer 2. it doesn't resolve the case and you can never be naturalized. What our case needed was a dismissal. He offered no real solution and charged a significant amount of money for something that is easily granted. I had reached out to cancel my retainer and asked for a refund, but I was met with we can't refund your full retainer, but rather refund you about 50% of it back. When I pressed about his research and solution had a lot of holes in them, Mr. Wildes offered legal advise over the phone for a number of hours in addition to the partial refund. For me the cost wasn't the issue. I would have paid double what he asked if with confidence he is able to resolve the case completely. Instead he asked for $$$ and offered no real solutions. When time came for court, I would be charged even more money. I finally switched to another attorney who had a sound legal approach and the removal proceeding case was dismissed (had to wait a very long time to get a hearing because of the backed up court system). However, it was never in doubt that we are going for a dismissal (not prosecutorial discretion) and had a back up plan if dismissal wasn't granted. The other lawyer I went to explained all his legal strategy and made us feel we are in good hands. After the case was dismissed (dismissed on the first master calendar hearing), my brother and I applied and became US Citizens a few months later. In summary, I was very disappointed in their service. I felt that they cared more about money and offered no real solutions to the problem. I thought their approach was an unethical. They never made me feel that I was in good hands. Rather, I entered an office that will up charge me a lot of money because they knew that I can pay it. I am sure that they were able to help a lot of people and have a lot of success stories. The firm has an impressive website and stories advertised which what drew me to them in the first place. However, I realized you can get more superb legal representation elsewhere. Money was not even the issue, but definitely for a lot less what his firm was planning on charging me. read more
