The Meh: *Limited hours of only Thu - Sun and only open for 4hrs. The Ugly: *Only open seasonally from early June to mid-October (check website for accurate dates and times) Conclusion: Great place to learn some history and get a hike in at the same time. Not only did we learn all about logging life, but the museum is beautifully curated. The balcony exhibits, especially, provide the aesthetic experience of an art museum. Many of the tools themselves are as finely made as sculpture, and some are displayed in ways that create sculptures of them. Photos, saws, axes, kitchen wares, logging boots, wood carvings by loggers of their fellow workers, and of fans and wagons and sleds. Diaries, letters, accounting books. There's a play corner for children - yes, they can touch! Outside in an open shed stands the huge equipment that doesn't fit inside the museum itself. I can't highly enough praise the thought and care behind the museum.

From the old train to the operational mill tucked through several floors inside, you really get a sense of how things were working back in the day. The proper way is to give it a at least 2 hours, watch the movie, take the free ipad that guides you and also has a nice discovery game for the kids and start explore the place. The basement had a tv show exhibit which I guess was famous in Quebec, the first floor has a wonderful sense and science exhibit really well made and the top floor is mostly fossils, stones, and animals which was very interesting. Nothing negative; just interesting. The Fort itself had never seen war and a good majority of the Fort has simply been recreated) so its historical history is strictly Maine -- I believe it may be the oldest standing wooden fort in the USA. We popped into the Moosehead Marine Museum to purchase tickets for the Kathadin boat ride, and to see what the museum had to enlighten us history-wise on Greenville and Moosehead Lake. The museum itself is a simple, singular room, just beyond the entrance counter, to the right. It's a very compact yet concise opportunity to view the marine history of Maine's largest lake, and its steamboat-making history. We totally enjoyed viewing the historic photos, film clips, tools of the trade, and information on the area's historical significance to the state. For us, as first-timers to the region, it was very fascinating history! The museum is free, so why not check it out if you're in this neck of the woods...!

went there last year with my family and we were the only one on the guided tour. i don't remember…read morethe girl's name, but she was very sweet! she spoke english but still managed to do the tour in french for my parents. this house is so beautiful! if you like the edwarian/victorian époque you will like this. the curtis family lived there and it has been very well maintained through the years. you will get to see the salons, bureau, salle à manger (with the veranda, where they make tea partys to this day, so cool!), kitchen. Then to the second floor they have bedrooms, one room explaning the custom of marriages - births & and another one for the customs of deaths. which was very interesting! they also have a child bedroom full of antique toys, which was a little bit creepy haha. then you go back downstairs (there are more floors but they are not open to the public) to the little shop. and then outside to another building where they had a little exposition about the rural life, and then to a (kinda) barn where they have some agricultural machinery and rural life things and on the second floor there is a lot of old things from the town it self. so basically, from the outside it's juste a huge house, but from the inside it's a treasure! go! you need to see this!
