It's a real Alladin's cave selling absolutely everything you could ever need, and quite a lot that you could probably live without as well! Staff are friendly and some of the time it appears that they look just as lost as the customers in there! On the whole, it is a really useful little place to have in the town. A Wilkinsons opened recently which I think have taken a lot of business away from Brian's which is a shame as they're a bit of a Brigg institution, but hopefully they'll survive and continue to give the good service they have done for years.

Lovely little local hardware store - loads cheaper than B&Q!…read more I was recently looking for a couple of metres of standard electrical cable to extend the length of a plug. First call was, as always B&Q where I expected it to be cheapest. But they only had pre-packed sections and it was going to cost £10.99 minimum. Perhaps not On the way home, I stopped off in this little shop just to see if they had anything similar. Yes. And 45p a metre so I got change from a pound coin, and they gave me a chocolate from their box of Quality Street as well. I didn't look at much else in the store - it's a bit of an Aladdin's cave, but my husband has been back a few times for bits and bobs and always been happy. I'd really recommend this place to everyone in the local area - it's one thing talking about supporting local businesses, but they're often far more expensive. But in this case, it was exactly the opposite, so as well as supporting your local shops you're doing yourself a favour too!

If they have it in stock then great if they dont then forget it! The shop itself is large and has a lot in it, however it is all crammed into small spaces which makes things difficult to find. The staff are not exactly overly helpful neither as majority of the time they dont know what you are talking about, and when they do they dont seem to know if they stock it or not. Queues are to be expected here the staff are very slow and there is usually only one person behind the till at a time. In short if you know what your looking for and you know where abouts in the shop it might be then you should be ok but if you dont you are probably best looking elsewhere for it.

They've got a fairly nice display of kitchens and bathrooms, although these are more expensive than comparable quality ranges at Ikea. The garden centre is also not too bad but you'd really only want to buy the stuff if it was on offer. I like that this branch seems to have more than the normal share of older members of staff - better knowledge and better service normally. Decent car park, and quite easy to get to just off the Peaks Parkway. The usual infuriating idiots who park in the parent & toddler spaces, and the usual staff who are not interested in this when you report them - they're there for a reason, people!!!

The service can vary wildly; usually depending on the amount of staff available and how busy it is, but generally the staff are quite good and helpful - although on my most recent visit it appears that they have removed the customer service desk!!! The prices are reasonably low apart from the more specialised items which don't tend to be competitive because of the lack of local competition. As a major retailer they have a large range of the diy/gardeneing items that you would expect at different price points but as with some of the other major retailers it pays to pop in early morning before it gets busy to spot the bargains - some of the manager specials are fantastic but they sell out very fast. We got a fantastic deal on turf the other summer and we laid a lawn in our garden for next to nothing and the turf was high quality and hard wearing. The gardening section is not very good with a preponderance for power tools and the plants are not very well kept.

Is in the style of an Argos, search through the catalogue, write down what items you want and take it to the till to pay. They always have a wide range of items in stock. Staff don't seem overly helpful when it comes to taking your order but are pleasant enough. I would definitely always go here instead of the larger DIY stores as its cheaper and saves wandering round aisle after aisle trying to locate one item.

I rang the Build Centre in Retford and they were fantastic! Got what I wanted at an acceptable price, received call-backs for confirmation as promised, and delivery was exactly when it was meant to be. This is a builder's merchants, so they deal with trade customers as well as the public and it isn't set up internally like B&Q with pretty displays, but they've got an excellent range of products available from stock (they supplied us with 8 pallets of bricks the following day) and will deliver locally. I really liked the 'no nonsense' approach of the bloke we dealt with. There was no slimy sales patter, and he knew his stuff. Although I'll always check around for the best price, I'll definitely be giving this mob a call before any others in the future. Highly recommended!
