In a way, Wilkinsons is the store that out-Woolies Woolworths (with devastatingly successful results). The goods are definately cheap, the variety is large, and the quality is usually very good indeed. I frequently pop into Wilkinsons when I'm in town for a browse and end up coming away with a bag ful of items that I didn't realise I needed until I went in there!! One item that has served me well for over a year now is the Wilkinson's Eco-bag. It only cost 45p and is a large, strong black re-useable shopping bag (some sort of glazed/strengthened fabric). It folds up neatly with a popper so it doesn't sproing out all over the inside of your handbag. And y'know, I've packed tons of stuff in it and it just keeps going. Unlike the more expensive ones that cost several quid. This one is a bargain! Great shop for stocking up with cheap & cheerful toiletries and body sprays (if you get through a ton of 'em as I do, being addicted to nice smelly stuff) - and kitched ware is a winner too. I bought a load of baking/oven trays six months ago and they still look as if I only took the wrapped off them yesterday (and they get used practically daily). There are some brilliant buy one get one free bargains and the toys in there are cheap especially around christmas time. The choice of decorating equipment is a bit limited compared to others but they can order you anything in if you need it. They also have plants and shrubs outside for sale too. This store can get busy around lunchtime but they will normally open up some tills if it is too bad.

I suppose their "get out of gaol free card" is: subject to availability. This sort of thing does more damage to a company's reputation than not offering something for free. I suppose the old maxim still holds true: "There's no such thing as a free lunch." :-)

The perfum section competes poorly with the likes of Superdrug and the Perfume Shop, and the homeware section contains such a limited range of goods that the local Tesco eclipses it in usefulness. The staff did seem friendly enough, and all in all this store isn't too bad for a small town but there are multiple branches nearby which are considerably better in terms of facilities, even beyond the basic facilities which store fails to offer and selection. 3* - It is one of the better/larger stores in the town centre despite criticisms mentioned, I like how you can access it through Darwin Shopping Centre or street level on Pride Hill.

I called in here for a quick walk around and to pick up some Hand Sanitiser and to look at the gluten free sandwiches, while doing some work in Stoke ahead of the By-election. This store is located in the city centre of Hanley, one of 6 towns in Stoke On-Trent including Stoke, Hanley, Burslem, Fenton, Tunstall and Longton. As I recall this is one of two stores in the city and the oldest. The store is a decent size, but does seem a little old-fashioned at times and left our when it comes to being refurbished and modernised especially when comparing to other branches such as those in Manchester and Birmingham to name a few. The staff seemed quite nice, and I was pleased to pick up two bottles of 50ml Hand Sanitiser for £1.50, which was a saving of 50p across the two bottles. The range for gluten free was satisfactory, although much poorer than other stores such as Manchester. Overall, this store is okay and a nice brand to have in Hanley, but still the store lacks the feel that other branches have, so sadly seems slightly poorer hence warrants just two stars.

It is over three floors all easily accessible by escalator or lift. It is laid out really well with a walkway straight through the middle with plenty of space. This is good because the store has a multi-storey car park, and is popular with shoppers in general, not just Marks and Spencer customers. The large gangway means the foot traffic from cars to the shops moves well. The store as a large food section and has pretty much all a supermarket should offer only it's pretty posh and pretty pricey. However, if you do a big food shop you are able to collect your shopping from a car pick up point which is more convenient than battling the multi-storey with your trolley. The car park is a pay on foot and is well laid out, but there are only three pay machines spread out across the levels so if you leave at peak times prepare for a massive queue.
