There weren't any public washrooms, excluding those outdoor urinals ("pee curls") that only men can really use, and an employee of a nearby shop directed us to the Magna Plaza shopping center. There were washrooms on the second floor of the shopping center, but it cost €1. But when you have to go, you have to go, and I figured since they were charging to use the facilities, it would at least be a clean and comfortable experience -- when you pay for something, there are certain expectations. To get to the entrance of the washrooms, there were two turnstiles. I went to one turnstile, but it was cash only and I didn't have any cash on me, so I went to the second turnstile that accepted credit cards. However, there was a group of fucking tourists, paying by cash, blocking the credit card only turnstile, while they took their sweet time trying to figure out the currency. I finally managed to get into the washroom, and there was no toilet paper! Seriously, if I have to PAY to use the toilet, there better damn well be toilet paper! Thank goodness I always carry napkins and tissues with me and I wasn't taking a shit! I then went to wash my hands, but there was a MALE employee in the WOMEN'S washroom, and he was blocking the sinks and wouldn't let me wash my hands! I was able to find the handicapped washroom and wash my hands in there, but there was no paper towel. This one of the worst public bathroom experiences I have had (that did not include bodily fluids or excrement everywhere). Sam Sam is a secondhand clothing store on Haarlemmerdijk that has a variety of clothes from old to new at a moderate price. It was one of the last stores that I entered after visiting several stores on the block. To be honest I was pretty disappointed by a few vintage and retro stores on this block, accept for this store. I thought some of the prices were just too high for the quality of the clothes. Samsam is a business that I would definitely return back again to shop or sell some of my no needed clothes that are storing up in my closet. I thought the prices were fair and the clothes were well organize. What I appreciated about Samsam was the excellent customer service as well. The owner of the shop was beyond helpful, which is something that you don't run across too often when shopping in Amsterdam.

I must say this shop has a wonderfully quirky but very well curated selection of stuff in the store and it caters for a variety of ages / so stuff for kids as well as grown-ups! There's a variety and tons of local Amsterdam gifts too - from local artist to Dutch chocolates. And I got Free gift wrapping as it's Christmas time! (Woot! Score!) So If you are like me and a slacker about your Christmas shopping and stuck at the airport and need some gifts, then this store (while definitely more expensive than outside shops), can really come to your rescue! The dressing rooms were challenging, as they were not on every floor, but the cash registers to buy were available on various levels. The building is beautiful, well lit and open with high ceilings on some floors. There's an elevator and some have stairs the higher the floors. The stairs were crazy-steep: we would never see that in an American store! The prices were spot on, my daughter found a sweatshirt for under $3Euros, which is amazing prices for Europe and America. The wife needed a few pairs of longer socks for our next country of Ireland which is colder than most of Europe right now, especially at night. They only had a small selection of the high socks and not the right size, but settled for a pair of sandals for 1.3€ - what a deal. We've been to several Primarks in the United States but the size of this one is overwhelming. FYI: this was NOT a paid attraction in Amsterdam.
