Words can not express the gratitude that my family and I have for how Chris Stone and his staff…read morehandled all of the arrangements for my father's viewing and funeral service. He paid attention to every detail and the event was absolutely beautiful! We could not be happier with the outcome! Each time we had a question, he had already thought about it and handled it. He was literally 20 steps ahead of everything. We thank the team for making sure that my father received his military recognition. What a beautiful and honorable ending to the celebration of his life. I know that he would have been so proud. Having to bury your loved one is such an emotional time for families and close friends. It is hard to continue to do daily tasks, yet alone plan a funeral. He took away the burden of having to think about the details and allowed my family and I to grieve but, still enjoy the ceremonies. We knew that he was on it and we didn't have to worry. This is a gift that he gives to families that seek funeral services and we are truly grateful.

Whiting's Funeral Home took amazing care of us from start to finish. We were expecting a cumbersome and difficult process and we got none of that. Whiting's was engaged with us from start to finish. As soon as we notified them that our loved one passed, they were able to connect with emergency personnel to ensure that our love one was brought into their care. They not only knew what to do, but knew how to treat us as a family. Chris was absolutely amazing, he was compassionate, caring, and as we requested was diligent in the process so our heartache was not prolonged. Our family member was a veteran, so those arrangements were coordinated. So we were able to honor our father with a military salute at the funeral, as he deserved. Our loss occurred during COVID, so we were able to celebrate our father's life outdoors and it was absolutely a beautiful ceremony. Chris kept us informed, asked us questions about what we wanted from the program, to the music, to attendees. Again, losing a love one is a terrible thing, but having a funeral home that allows you to feel comfortable, is patient, is supportive and helpful, provides guidance, and makes you feel like family made the process smooth and effortless on our end. I would recommend Whiting's and Chris was fantastic, he helped us through a difficult time and made a process that could have been extremely mentally and emotionally draining, one that I can say made our family more at peace with our loss during such a hard time.

If he only knew the truth! Until this funeral is planned for myself and my husband to use them but we will no molder be doing so because i cannot condone his horrible behavior towards the deceased husband! He went against the deceased wishes! Shame on him!

While it was insanely overwhelming the only thing not stressful was what the funeral home did for our family! We are beyond blessed to have chosen this home for the viewing, chapel and burial. They really listen to your needs, take the time to make sure everything is what you want for the respect of your loved one and help you through the process. They are there from when your loved one take their last breath until the very end where they are laid to rest. They coordinate everything so flawlessly, between the Chaplin, flower shops, and burial location. Looking back on our experience we so blessed. They made this process a little easier.

Free for anyone to visit it is intended for students and community members to come and relax. It exists to beautify the campus and remind those who visit of the strength our country had coming out of the Great Depression, it serves both of these purposes well. Having visited earlier this week I could not imagine giving the Gardens any lower of a rating. It ties the campus together and is an integral part of the William and Mary that exists today.

What better way to spend a day than to take a road trip to quaint historic Yorktown! After we took…read morea stroll down the boardwalk, and enjoyed some time at the park, our next stop was visiting some colonial buildings. This famous brick house was built in the popular Georgian style of its day. The Nelson House was closed during Covid, but that didn't stop us from admiring the architectural beauty of the estate, the outbuildings, the unique fencing, the grounds and the lovely English gardens. Named for one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence and a previous governor of Virginia, Thomas Nelson, Jr., the Nelson family home has a rich lineage. His grandfather built the house about 1730, and his father also occupied the house and was a prestigious politician in Yorktown. The Nelson family was influential in Virginia's history and the house stayed in the family until the early 1900's. It is now preserved for visitors, historians, lovers of architecture and everyone else to appreciate! There's so much history to see in Yorktown, so be sure to add the Nelson House to your itinerary!

The staff (especially Holly) exude a level of professionalism that, understandably, is necessary is this line of work. They have the ability to bring your loved one "back to life, but asleep" in the casket. I was amazed at their level of professionalism AND skill level. This funeral home will make your transition with your loved one as easy and peaceful as it can possibly be. Thanks to Mr. Hogg, Holly, and John (limousine driver) and all other staff involved. You will not be disappointed in their level of service...thanks to you all for a very positive, highly caring level of treatment to the bereaved; it really made the process easier to accept and endure...

Christopher Wren Building

The Wren Building on the campus of The College of William & Mary, named after its supposed…read morearchitect Sir Christopher Wren, is one-of-a-kind. It is the oldest college building still standing in the United States, built prior to 1700 (when Jamestown was still the capital of the Virginia colony). I appreciate how it welcomes you to campus, sitting at the end of Colonial Williamsburg's Duke of Gloucester Street. The building is steeped in history, as can be seen by the numerous marble plaques adorning its walls. One one side of the building is a triangular grassy area facing the Capitol building. On the other size is the College's sunken garden. The building itself has numerous rooms still in use today for classes. The great hall has a beautiful large hearth with paintings of William & Mary throughout the room. And Wren Chapel - the other wing of the building - is the site for many weddings plus it has a crypt underneath that contains the graves of a handful of important American revolutionaries. It's such a neat structure and one worth visiting when in Williamsburg.

While there is a focus on the students, the main focus of the building is the tourists who come through Colonial Williamsburg. Its mission is split in three directions. It serves as an academic building during the school semesters, it serves as a landmark historical attraction, and it serves as a the center of many traditions for the College and the surrounding area. While this may be a lot of different goals for one building to achieve, the Wren building accomplishes all three. Having visited in early May, and all through out this past year, there could not be a more majestic building. I gave the site 5 stars because not only does it stand for centuries of tradition, but it continues to be a place where new traditions are made every year.

City Point National Cemetery

There's something about this place…read more As I walked through this cemetery, straightening flags that had tilted or fallen in the wind, I heard a bird cry. It kept up the cry and I looked toward the sky and saw a large bird circling. I'd like to think it was an eagle; it looked like it, but might have been another large bird. Because it was circling a small area there must have been a nest nearby. The farther away from the center of the cemetery I moved, the less the bird circled. An eagle would be an awesomely appropriate guardian for a national cemetery. No one could have planned it better. A traditional national cemetery in setup and feel, there's a history of interments dating back to the Civil War. This is one of the few from that era in which I was not overwhelmed with the number of "unknowns". It came together for me on this visit when I met a man visiting the site where both his mother and father were buried. We spoke for a few moments and he brought it all back to what it's about for him: This is his history. There, as he pointed to the gravesite, is where he came from. He wanted his kids to see and feel that connection because that's what was important. He felt centered again. That's what a visit to a national cemetery is all about. Feeling centered.

The four actors were very good, which resulted in much laughter from the audience during the performance and applause at the end. Outside the area we read the sign, which indicated this was the site of the first theatre. "William Levingston, merchant of New Kent County, built the first theatre in English America on this site, c. 1716. For three decades companies entertained audiences at the "Play House" with latest successes from the London Stage. In 1745 the City of Williamsburg converted the frame structure into a municipal hall. The building was razed c. 1770 after construction of the Courthouse on Market Square."
