I really like Dr. Sokol, but the office staff is terrible. Dr. Sokol is a gentle, sweet, kind, patient doctor and genuinely care about his patients. He's also very experienced and considerate. 5 star doctor. I had limited interactions with Dr. Amin but she does seem very knowledgeable and experienced as well. However, his office staff really makes it a bad experience. First, they are not nice, and they continue to ask me the same question over and over again about my insurance. They are disorganized and have trouble with my chart. If the appointment is anytime after 11am, expect to wait an hour before you are seen. Oh, there's also no trashy magazines in the waiting room! After reading all of the opinions above, it's funny ( odd ) that there seems to be either a great review - of one sentence - which tells me it's not a real review or it's several paragraphs based on your experience. If you've read any of my reviews, you know that they are more than a sentence, as a rule. Let me say that Dr. Sokol was recommended by my PCP in Newport Beach, Dr. Doonan, who I respect and like. I drive 15 minutes each way to see him because he was recommended, I surely could have found one closer. I told Dr. Sokol on the call I had with him tonight, after the experience I had with my first round of shots with his office, after diagnosis. I think as far as a diagnostician, there's likely none better, he's really caring, kind, and listens. However, during the appt. If it takes more than a few minutes - he's going to leave the room and disappear for a few minutes to go handle someone else. He's hoping the whole time he's there - and that's appreciated for sure - he's able to bill a ton of insurance that way. I get the business perspective. I don't get the personal attention and client facing perspective. I share the same title as he does but I would never disrespect people's time that way. As others have put it - as a working professional, it's impossible to get in and out of that office, even during Covid in less than 45 minutes. Appointments, yes you can make one. Does that make any difference ? No. You are kept waiting, regardless of what's going on. You are put in a room and expected just wait. His bedside manner is spectacular. He's wonderful - of course, I think it took us 12 weeks to get me dialed in - as I had bad reactions to many allergens and then with a full schedule getting appt's isn't simple - towards the end of the day is all I could do. So, 2 weeks is a usual wait time - and frankly that's not a big deal. So, he gets 4.5 stars. The running in and out of rooms, 100% correct. It taking a while to get diagnoses also correct. And he's super knowledgeable and that's wonderful - bedside manner 5 stars. When he's in the room. You need his attention after hours - he'll call and he's kind. He does sometimes over medicate you if you have a reaction outside of office hours - so be careful. Always check what he gives you with your PCP - as I was severely over medicated for 3 days after a hives episode. FYI. Now, his staff. OMG. What a bunch of absolute terrors. The stories you read above ? All have something I personally experienced while there. Dr. Sokol doesn't have ANY technology at the office - or at home is my guess. A PC - he has none. WIFI - NOPE. Asking them to see him in an office in Irvine when you are a Newport Patient ? Good Luck - they have to carry paper copies of things from office to office. Yes, folks it's still 1970 at Dr. Sokol' s. - and you know - that's fine if it works for him -even if it doesn't work for the rest of the 21st C. No worries. His after hours lines weren't connected to all his outgoing lines - so you would call back a number that they called from - and get no one - UNLESS you called the main line. Be aware. He was made aware of that in Sept of 20 - by me. I don't think it's fixed. The nurses and staff, collect the payment and get you out the door - while getting you a new appointment of course - got to keep billing. Unpleasant, standoffish, prissy, unkind, impatient are all words I would use for his staff. This week with my 1st and 2nd sets of shots - I had a terrible experience with one of his nurses and the staff - when the shots happened 3/6 hurt badly - I'm a guy I don't complain about pain often - but this hurt - and I said ouch 3 times - and she didn't flinch and didn't care - just come in - get your shots and GTFO. She, the nurse, dark hair curly and short.... called my name from where she was standing and my back was to her and I didn't hear her. I didn't get up as I wasn't sure who she was talking to. She said it again - I stood up - looked in the direction of her with her back to me - " come over here " - like I was a dog. Stunned, I walked over and said - OK ? Please explain I asked - she barked the orders out and said check my name and the ampules. I did, they were fine. Great, she says give me one of your arms - and bam 6 shots - and the ouches - and no " are you ok ?" NOTHING. She says, go wait in the waiting room and in 30 minutes come back and show us if you'd had a reaction. I'm fuming after being treated like this girl's puppy and being hurt by this callous wench - I fumed for 30 minutes - and left ANGRY. I addressed Dr. Sokol. He turned it on me and said they were likely having a tough day and they were busy. He called me angry. I said disrespect gets anger from any patient. He wouldn't make any changes - his girls are great - people even bring them presents, he told me. I told him to fire a bunch of them. What else can I say ? read more

Dr. Sokol is the absolute kindest doctor I have encountered. He is beyond knowledgeable of his craft, while delivering the best care to his patients. I have been a patient of his for over six years & cannot recommend him enough! Very satisfied with the office and communication of the office. I want to add that after 3 years of treatment my breathing has had much improvement. My wife has a dog and now I can be around it without any difficulty breathing. I am very pleased with the results , the care , and the staff are also very friendly and professional. Dr Sokol is a kind and intelligent doctor. His technical expertise in this field is unmatched. This office and Dr. Sokol, are very unorganized and do not give you their undivided attention when you need it most. While I was having my appointment with Dr. Sokol, he left the room 4 (four) times to answer PHONE calls.! When he was kind enough to call me at home once, he put me on hold 2 times to catch other phone calls! The nurse came back on and asked who I was holding for. I sometimes had difficulty with the office staff as well. They can't do anything without asking Dr. Sokol first. I hate to be so negative about an office, but my treatment by them was very poor at best. I have several other Drs. who are caring, prompt, and focused. read more

My rating is for my experience addressing allergies through allergy shots. After 2 years of maybe a hundred shots and no progress on my allergies, am skeptical on the process and was disappointed with the patient management and communication. Regular required reviews with the doctors during the shots process were unscientific at best, yet more time needed for patient to visit office. If you're busy and miss your shots, it's a constant setback. Part of the problem is the long committment, there is No feedback mechanism or reminders to help you track where you are in a long committed program. Thus, felt was charged several times for shots I didn't end up taking which was partially my fault for not keeping more detailed records because you have to be responsible for yourself. And as you're passed back and forth between the doctors Sokol and Amin, there isn't real consistency. Somehow I was continued to be billed and without warning this bill was sent to credit, yet ironically never a doctor or anyone followed up with me to see why I stopped after almost 2 years, or how they could have done more or anything. This billing was the catalyst to post this review that the practice should invest in process to communicate better with patients given a long costly committment. The staff is nice and seems used to dealing with challenging patients or maybe those frustrated with a time consuming process of shots that may not yield much benefit for many people but clearly for someone that can really be detailed with their own records and never miss their shot appointments. Dr Amin is great and the nurses are nice enough but office is run poorly. Expect lots of waiting and inconvenient office hours. If you are a working professional, it's impossible to get shots and get in & out in less than an hour. read more

Dr. Sokol and Dr. Amin are both great. Their staff is very friendly and the general vibe of the office is fantastic. I've been going there for 5 years now and am extremely glad that I ended up at their office during all of my issues. Their new insurance person is great too. She really knows what she is doing and is prompt with answering questions and taking care of issues. I've rarely had issues with getting in and out in a timely manner. If you go at lunch time it can be a problem (I'd suggest any time but this), but any other time it takes about 5 minutes to get the shot and then a 30 minute wait so that they can make sure you don't go into shock. I think we can all understand the 30 minute wait time for this purpose. My only complaints, is slightly later and earlier "shot" hours one day a week would be great for people with more standard work hours. Also they do rotate nurses far too often. One finally gets good at giving shots that don't hurt and a new one comes in and its back to hurting for 6 months or so till they get relax and fluid enough to give them painlessly. read more

I was a patient of Dr. Sokol, back in the 80's. As I read the other reviews,of late, I am shocked to see that his practice has continued to be as unethical as it was in my tenure with him. The shots did help, but I finally had realized that I no longer needed the weekly shots, after years of treatment, when I went to another doctor, who retested me. Sinus surgery, performed by Dr. Henry Bikhazi, cured all of my "allergy" problems. Dr. Sokol was scamming me medically and financially. He would always tell me that I had to pay for my antigens, before they were administered, and that I would be reimbursed when insurance paid me...I never received payment, but was always given excuses that the insurance company was at fault. He was getting double paid, by me and Blue Shield. When I figured it all out I refused to pay him $40 that he claimed was overdo. I told him to stop harassing me or I would report him to the insurance board. Amazingly, he suddenly stopped sending the "overdo" bill.I certainly wish that I had "blown the whistle" on him. It's obvious that he has continued his illegal ways for these many years. I am baffled as to how he is still in practice. I wish that I had done the right thing, back then. Hopefully someone will step up; it's beyond the statue of limitations or me to do so. I apologize to all of the many patients who have and are being cheated. read more

Dr. Sokol & Dr. Amin have nice bed-side manner. However, treatment billing (accounting), front office (scheduling, insurance collection, status), the on-time record of the office (0% on time appointment keeping) just sucks the marrow out of the good "in the treatment room" scores, and brings the overall experience down to a 2 of 5. For an actual office visit, expect to spend minimum 2 hours. For a "shot" visit on a recurring shot regiment, you looking at 1 1/2 hours per visit, unless you hit one of the occasional lulls, in which case, perhaps 1 hour. My 2nd worst medical billing experience ever was with this office. Gave them my new ID card, but they kept billing the old company, who denied the claims (not their year of coverage). Then the office went after me with a weird "pay or else" billing. The first bill was a "90 days" late bill, entirely their fault. Paid it. 2nd bill, was a 10 days or collections on items they themselves had cross out on the first bill- like the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing, again entirely their fault. May have damaged my credit. The entire vibe of the office is just 100% completely unprofessional. The senior front desk person is just unhappy and surly, always. One can conclude that the office can only reflect the priorities of Dr. Sokol- while hitting whatever profit goals he has. Nothing wrong with profit, but this doctor DOES NOT VALUE THE TIME of his patients (not at the office, not at the front desk, not on the appointment book, not on holding a schedule, not in proper and efficient billing, not in training staff during non-appointment times, NOT AT ALL.) So if you can tolerate the dichotomy of a good in-treatment room experience, a so-so shot-room experience, and a totally ALWFUL everything else, go for it. read more
