I do not recommend Dr Zimmerman at all. She is VERY money driven. I stopped seeing her after she diagnosed me with a mold problem where I was living (at the time I was living and caring for my 91 year old mother and my developmentally disabled sister). She told me I needed to leave my home because of the mold. Money was an issue with me at the time, obviously, and I was in absolute tears. Her only response was to quickly try to schedule AND CHARGE $$$$$ me for another appointment to discuss how we would deal the mold issue. No compassion at all for the situation I was in. About a month later, she sent out a letter to her patients saying she was "retiring". An ethical doctor would probably stop taking new patients if they were getting ready to retire. Why would you take on new patients if you knew you would not see them through the process of getting better? Then a couple months later she sent another email to her patients saying she wasn't going to retire, but was joining another practice. Something is just not right here. I am now seeing a functional medicine doctor in Montana that is wonderful and not money driven. A PIECE OF ADVICE FOR EVERYONE, YOU DON'T NEED TO SEE A FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE DOCTOR BASED IN OC. YOU CAN SEE MOST FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE DOCTORS VIRTUALLY AND I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND FINDING A DOCTOR OUTSIDE OF OC. The worst part is I just received a lab bill for $2500 that I never authorized almost one year after I stopped seeing her. I called her to try and help me rectify the bill and her new receptionist told me it was my problem. JUST TO CLARIFY READING HER RESPONSE. THESE ARE THE TESTS SHE RECOMMENDED AND ORDERED. NO TEST SHOULD HAVE BEEN OVER $500. SHE SENT ME TO THESE LABS. BE VERY CAREFUL OF HER "3RD PARTY CHARGES". I can understand how frustrating it is when labs send surprise charges, which is why I always recommend that patients try to find out from Quest and all other labs up front what all their charges will be. I never want anyone to experience the stress of unexpected charges. The $2500 bill was not from our office; it was from a lab where this patient chose to get testing done. The payments are handled by the lab and not by my office, so I'm sorry that I'm not able to help with 3rd party charges. read more

I met with this doctor in 2023 during a very difficult and challenging time in my life and had severe chemical poisoning. I told her my full history and background of how I got there. She put me on a binder to detox which was way too intense for me during that time. I could not handle the binder and had to stop taking it. I had to stop the treatment and she was not able to offer anything else. This was a waste of my time and money and was pointless. I know a lot about holistic health and natural medicine and looking back at that time in my life and healing process, that was WAY too soon to be put on a binder especially without even seeing me in person as we did a phone visit. She was happy to take my money for the appointment but it was a waste. Do not recommend. In fact, I recommend a much more gentle approach. read more

I met Dr. Zimmerman during the Summer of 2021. I was having all kinds of symptoms impacting my day to day life. I decided to seek out a functional medicine doctor in my area and I'm so glad I did. Dr. Zimmerman was able to identify the root cause of my symptoms. During our initial assessment, I was asked a lot questions about my health history. Based on that assessment, we did a lot of tests to identify the problem. Ultimately, I had high levels of mold toxicity and SIBO. I honestly don't know what I would do without Dr. Zimmerman. I have been her patient for 2 to3 years now. She has and continues to help me with multiple problems. First, my hair was falling out. She was able to figure out what I had done which caused the problem and quickly prescribe the supplements that I needed to stop the hair loss. Amazingly she was right and not only has the hair loss stopped but it's growing back! What had happened was three months earlier I had done cosmetic filler injections. Of course neither the manufacturer nor the doctor at the plastic surgery office warned of potential endocrine interruption. It was amazing that Dr. Zimmerman figured that out and quickly stopped the loss. That's just one of many things she's helped me with which I am so grateful for. She spends a lot of time with you she really knows things that you cannot find on Google no matter how hard you try. I've been using Yelp religiously for 5-6 years, but always as a voyeur, never writing a review. But as I'm laying here in bed this morning feeling so grateful for having had Dr Zimmerman come into my life, I felt like it was time. I've been seeing my HIV doc here in West Hollywood for years and he is a great doctor. I feel completely taken care of by him and his entire group that focuses on men's health. I've been successfully undetectable, fortunately, since 2008, always being moved to the newest and most cutting edge HIV treatments on the market under their care. They also managed my anti-inflammatory meds that I constantly took for joint pain starting in 2016, at 43. They also managed my cholesterol medicine, anti anxiety and depression meds, my acid reflux meds, and all of my sleep meds. Even though my chart said I was a mid 40's, gym going, nice bodied, HEALTHY man...honestly, I still felt like shit. I was so medicated, I felt, even though I was on the lowest doses of most of the drugs. I also carried a very fluctuating 10-20 lbs of fluid depending on the day. And no one could figure out why. Or really even thought to try. So I tried on my own to clean up my diet and eat clean. It seamed to help a little. With all of the "food" research I decided to go vegan. That lasted for 4 months. I felt good morally but I was sooooo swollen. I carried fluid everywhere and then I started breaking out in hives. I was desperate. Dr. Zimmerman is AMAZING! The quality of this doctor surpasses all practitioners that I've ever worked with over the past 7-8 years. I'm so GRATEFUL to all the doctors who have helped me, have listened, but Dr. Zimmerman certainly blew them out of the competition in terms of the QUALITY of care I've received overall. By my *second* visit, she was able to explain and confirm almost all of what was making me sick; the rest is basically fine tuning/damage recovery which will still take time because I've been ill for almost 2 decades (bed ridden for about 3-4 years as a young adult!). Where the eye-opening diagnoses my other doctors made and believed to be the "causes", Dr. Zimmerman has stripped these down, like peeling layers of an onion, to the most very basic reasons. SS did not accept ANY insurance when I first checked, but they now do accept PPO/Medicare, etc. I feel unbelievably lucky to work with someone so experienced without having to pay cash only! I cannot emphasize again, the QUALITY Dr. Zimmerman offers. She's hungry for knowledge and her efforts towards the continuing education requisite MD's must follow are ABOVE and BEYOND. In addition, she also attends miscellaneous conferences in her spare time (not cheap, paid out of her pocket) and teaches the fruits of cutting edge research in different classes to her patients at UCI's Susan Samueli Integrative (I've taken the Brain Health class and am excited for the Inflammation class coming up!). No more scouring the internet/other practitioners' websites/patient forums for insight/guesstimations, because FINALLY, THIS doctor has THE answers. Also, with this type of physician comes high quality support staff. The staff at UCI SS Center is amazing! Anytime I call or see their front desk in person, it is so PLEASANT, like a concierge desk. I ask for previous receipts of supplements, emailed straight away, DONE. I called my pharmacy to see if they received my prescription, nothing at 3:19 PM, so I call Dr. Zimmerman's office to ask them to re-fax the prescription to my pharmacy DONE, and the pharmacy receives it literally at 3:23. Every single time before an appointment, I feel hopeful for my future, because I know I'm soo close to feeling/being 100% as I'm continuing on as her patient. For anyone needing a wonderful doctor that takes all your health concerns seriously, I highly recommend Dr Zimmerman! I have had serious health issues for 30 years. Doctors have always brushed them off as stress, or chronic sinus issues. I'm an RN, I know when something is more than "take these antibiotics, rest, meditate, eat more fiber.....". Just for the record, I have had 2 tumors in my head and my chronic sinus issues over 10 years was a serious infection that had the potential to take my life. Dr. Zimmerman is an incredible medical detective. She not only is a traditional trained and Board Certified Medical Doctor, she is also a Functional Medicine trained MD. She has the knowledge base of Western trained Doctors and the knowledge base of Functional Medicine. She is able to treat with the best of both Disciplines! Doctors just don't take the time to listen to their patients nor are they taught in Medical School how to treat holistically. For example, they have no idea what a L-5- MTHF mutation is, nor do they know what blood work to order to find out. And treating it is out of their scope of practice. They don't have any idea how to treat with non -prescription supplements. Healing after years of untreated medical issues is a process. There is no magical pill, diet or exercise to treat any problem overnight. But with a "Medical Partner" and well skilled diagnostician (medical detective), it is possible to have restored health. Don't get me wrong, diet and exercise are also a huge part of healing. My 19 year old daughter is an endurance athlete/runner who is healthy and who never really had any health issues until about a year ago. During her sophomore of college, she began to feel extremely tired, her heart rate started fluctuating like crazy, she started gaining weight and her running performance began to decline rapidly. Within a few months, she fractured her femur on a run and she started getting to the point where she could sleep for 10 hours at night and need a 2-3 hour nap during the day. Dr. Zimmerman is the most authentic and compassionate physician I have worked with. I think Functional Medicine lends itself to people like her - physicians who really care about discovering the root cause of your ailments, and working together with you to make you as healthy as you can be. Functional MDs like Dr. Zimmerman are not satisfied with traditional Western, drug-based approaches to healing; they are well-versed in nutritional healing, lifestyle modifications, metal detox, gut repair, and other commonly underappreciated tools for targeting the root cause of a lot of chronic conditions. Working with Dr. Z, I discovered a lot of nutritional deficiencies and gut problems, not to mention dairy and gluten sensitivities, that traditional MDs didn't even attempt to investigate. Although my symptoms are not 100% resolved, they have improved significantly (over 90%) working with Dr. Z. This is saying a lot, as my symptoms were so debilitating for so long that I could barely function in my daily life. Dr. Z took the time to listen attentively to my story, did a lot of sleuthing to try to figure out how to help me, and was always available whenever I had questions for her. Western medicine is in need of a makeover. If all physicians would be as kind and open to holistic, alternative, and nutrition-based healing (in conjunction with traditional drug-based approaches, as needed) as Dr. Z, I think we'd be able to help a lot more people who experience years of needless suffering due to chronic ailments that allopathic physicians have no clue how to resolve. Give Dr. Z a try if you've seen multiple allopathic doctors and specialists and have come away with little to no answers for your ailment. I'm quite impressed with Pearl Zimmerman, MD. I've an unusual set of issues which no other doc has been much help, or even seemed to have much interest. Zimmerman has so much more knowledge than the other docs i've seen, and that has been quite a number of people. She doesn't appear to be stuck in a box of easy answers, but looks at things with more common sense and innovation. Most other doctors i've dealt with are impatient and dismissive, especially if they cannot find an easy answer. Zimmerman does not take that approach. This is my first review of any doctor and I will try to be as objective as I can. Pros of Dr. Zimmerman: She ordered some bloodwork and found out I have some nutrient deficiencies. She deserves a three star for her above average knowledge. Cons of Dr. Zimmerman: 1. I contacted her on 11-25-2019 through patient portal after received flagged bloodwork results and she responded on 12-2-2019, in 9 days! 2. At our first meeting, I mentioned one doctor prescribing me something without testing, which apparently irritated her. She repeated three times that she is the wrong doctor for me because she always tests patients before prescribing it. And I think she is correct. 3. I still don't understand why she referred me to another lyme specialist without telling me? For these reasons, I gave her one star. But I don't mind working with her. Overall I gave her two stars. If you suffer complexed conditions, I can share my experiences with you that no one doctor knows everything. It's impossible. They all have their expertise and limit. Doctor Zimmerman is wonderful! The best doctor I have been to. She identified and treated my problems, and I feel the best that I have in years. Amazing. I am truly thankful for this great doctor. I only went to see this doctor once. I noticed she started pushing supplements on me without any lab tests... I have tried many supplements already and have a very sensitive system. So I refused to buy a couple of her recommendations because I had experienced poor results from them before but she kept recommending others and I ended up buying a couple of the supplements from her and paid a hefty office visit only to find out later that her recommended supplements would have nothing to do with my issue. I was super lucky that by chance and based on patient's great reviews i found Dr. Pearl Zimmerman. I made an appointment with her and have been her patient since February 2019. She was able to find the sources of my health issues and diagnose and treat them successfully. I find Dr. Pearl Zimmerman to be a vey intelligent, smart, kind, patient, caring and super meticulous doctor. She also referred me to other specialist doctors who believe in the same method of medicine that she does and i'm very thankful to her for that. I have been to many, many doctors in my life sadly..... None have been more observant that dr. Zimmerman. She is a rare breed of doctor that actually cares about her patients. I saw her for the first time last week and I am extremely happy with the results. She doesn't just treat your symptoms like most doctors, her concern is for what is actually causing those issues. She has the most comprehensive history that I have ever filled out and she goes over each page to make sure that she doesn't miss a thing. I brought test results of mine to another few doctors and they said "it's pretty normal don't worry about this or this I'm sure it will pass" .... Which is quite frankly an embarrassment. Dr. Zimmerman was the first one to be quite real with me and said if I don't change my lifestyle it will end very poorly for me. I am looking forward to her working with me and hopefully making great progress. Please if you are sick and nobody listens to you or your doctors can't figure out why .... Please contact dr.
