This is my honest review based on my experience. Dr. Jacob initially seemed kind, professional, and reassuring, which is why I trusted him with my last surgery. Unfortunately, my experience left me with serious concerns about transparency, communication, and postoperative care. Before surgery, we discussed removing the mesh as well as addressing painful lipomas, incision-related problems, and abdominal wall defects. Only the mesh was removed, and my symptoms remained essentially unchanged. I was also surprised to find four trocar incisions when I only remember discussing three. The painful lipoma remained in the same location after surgery and was eventually removed by a plastic surgeon. My concerns grew after surgery. I found little or no documentation of several preoperative visits. After I began asking questions and requesting records, the documentation on my patient portal became much more frequent and detailed. I also did not receive an operative report until weeks later, despite repeatedly requesting it. The document I eventually received did not appear to me to be the standard hospital operative report I expected, and I was unable to obtain nursing notes or other documentation that I believed would normally accompany a surgery. I was left without clear answers about what occurred during my procedure. That entire process continues to concern me years later. I went under anesthesia expecting my concerns to be addressed, but I woke up with more questions than answers. I felt violated as a patient, and the experience has stayed with me ever since. During follow-up visits, I often felt I had to pull information out of him rather than receiving clear explanations, leaving me uncertain about what he actually believed or recommended. I was referred to pain management, but I did not feel those referrals addressed the underlying cause of my pain. Some specialists were unable to offer a meaningful treatment plan, while others required substantial out-of-network payments, leaving me feeling like I had nowhere to turn. Years later, I am still seeking treatment for persistent abdominal wall pain. I continue to have the same painful incision and abdominal wall problems that led me to seek surgery in the first place. Based on my personal experience, I cannot recommend this surgeon. This experience has left lasting scars, both physically and emotionally. Honestly, this was the most dishonest encounter I have ever experienced with a doctor.

Dr. Abroon has all the qualities that are important to me in building a healthy doctor/patient relationship! At the top of my list is that Dr. Abroon is a good listener. He never rushes my appointment and always addresses my concerns, thoughts, opinions and viewpoint. For example, Dr. Abroon will take the time to read an article I clipped from a health newsletter on a subject I felt was pertinent to my care. Dr. Abroon is very knowledgeable, concerned for my well-being, will make referrals when necessary and follow up on my reports. Dr. Abroon is empathetic, compassionate and caring. The staff is always cheerful, efficient and polite. There are times I forget to mention something at my appointment and get upset with myself. But, I feel comfortable calling the office when I get home. I know that Dr. Abroon will return my call and with his calming voice say, "Alice, how are you? How can I help you?" These are the qualities that are important to me!

Echoing the sentiments of some others, as someone who has intimate knowledge of medical billing…read morepractices, Dr. Abroon is unethical in this regard. Here is my experience: I'll start by saying that the staff were friendly and professional, but that is the extent of the positivity here. I have in-network insurance, early 30's, low risk for heart issues and, by choice, just underwent a full ECG and heart stress test with a licensed cardiologist/heart doctor specialist about 6 months ago. 40+ minute wait. Dr. Abroon is NOT a cardiologist. He is a PCP. Yet he insisted, even after I told him and his staff that I just did a fulsome heart exam with a cardiologist, that (1) I pay $250 out of pocket UNLESS (2) they administer an EKG at the start of the visit without having assessed symptoms or risks or heart issues. His staff conveyed that he does an EKG on all his patients, which is medically unnecessary according to a number of medical authorities (see, for example, https://www.aafp.org/family-physician/patient-care/clinical-recommendations/all-clinical-recommendations/cw-ekg.html). Could I have opted to pay $47 to move forward with his EKG? Sure. But on principle this is very clearly a very wrong thing to do. It is not ethical to push an unnecessary medical exam that is costly for an insurance company so he can receive pure financial gain, and again, what's worse is that when I declined the EKG, he gave me the ultimatum that he would otherwise charge me a whopping $250 out of pocket. After I raised all these issues with Dr Abroon, he declined to proceed with our visit. Dr. Abroon's practice is patently unethical, and calls to question whether he has tendencies to conduct his practice this way more broadly. I encourage you to avoid this place. There are plenty of providers in the city that are upstanding.
