Consider more for recreation than a way to learn. We've been riding with Seaton since 2024 and have unfortunately had a mostly unpleasant experience. The place itself is beautiful and convenient, and hence the 2 stars. The teachers are a mixed bag. Most are high schoolers who probably get credits for teaching. Some of them are good as teachers and with kids and others are average. Classes are quite disorganized. When we'd ride, we would arrive on time and wait around for the teacher to get the horse cutting classes by anywhere from 15 - 20mins. We also had situations where we were assigned large horses for very young kids in spite of requesting smaller horses / ponies in the notes. Lastly, their systems are quite poor. We bought each of our girls a rider card but there is no portal or communication around usage, billing, expiry etc. The previous management (Wendy) made up for the lack of organization at Seaton through passion and customer service. However, the new management seems more commercially minded and more inexperienced in terms of dealing with customers, miscommunication, accommodating loyal customers, etc.

I wanted to surprise my wife on our 30th wedding anniversary so I called Misty Hollow on short…read morenotice. I spoke with Carrie who altered her schedule for that day to fit us in and we couldn't have had a more wonderful experience. She took the time to get us comfortable with our horses, I had Montana and my wife had Sonny, and we fed them treats, she showed us how to saddle them up properly, and patiently explained how to properly ride and handle our beautiful horses. She then led us on their scenic trail through flower-bedded fields, hilly horse paths, and by a scenic lake all while she took hundreds of pictures of us throughout our journey to cherish for years to come. Carrie has a beautiful farm, stable, and even an indoor area for riding lessons and parties. Her horses are all beautiful, well-kept, trained to handle all level of riders, and obviously well-loved and cared for. I highly recommend Misty Hollow for everyone, no matter which experience you choose to partake in (trail riding, lessons, parties, equestrian, etc). I would give this more than 5 stars if I could. My experience at the Double D was absolutely fantastic!…read more It was exactly what i was looking for - a getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. An opportunity to kick back and ride the trail. Did i feel like a cantor, or lope? Or did i just want to do some easy walking through the woods, by the river? It was all up to me. The wrangler Lindsay was super cool, friendly and totally laid back.....precisely what i was hoping for. My horse (Cody) was an easy ride....i was comfortable in the saddle, it was a magnificent, sunny day, the river was glistening, the forest was cool and shady, and i was transplanted to another world.....i highly recommend a 2-hour ride, or longer! Double D's guest ranch is smack in the middle of NJ country. This place is considered 'little…read morewyoming'. It's a gorgeous ride. This is easy enough for beginners & kids. It got a little tight when we ran into another tour but that was the only hick-up. My horse was a retired race horse loser! My hubs horse was also retired but he won his owners hundreds of thousands of dollars. We actually won off of him about five or so years ago at meadowlands. There was also a real mustang there and a horse which was saved from an auction. He was on sale for $2.50 for his meat. I think the horses could be better in all but it was a lot of fun in a beautiful area of the world. It cost $65 for a two hour ride. If you would like a beautiful autumn escape, then this is your place. Note that you need a car to get to the ranch.

When I reached out after finding her online (and vetting several others that were subpar), her response was immediate and her customer service was top notch. She reviewed everything with me, confirmed the date/time more than once, and not only was she professional, but her personality was LOVELY to work with - she made the experience a pleasure from start to finish. My client and his son LOVED the experience and asked her to stay an additional hour at the party because they were enjoying it so much. They also will be having his son take riding lessons from her in the summer The only negative is that I didn't get to meet Barbara in person - she is professional and warm from the get-go. This has to be one of the best barns I have ever boarded my horse at. We moved my horse a few…read moremonths ago to this barn and everyone at the barn is very friendly. The management is doing an impressive job. They had just replaced all of the lighting in the indoor ring, and the ring has such good lighting and good lighting is in my opinion one of the best qualities to have in a barn. The footing in both the indoor and outdoor rings has some memory foam in it to help horses trip less often, and the outdoor ring is massive. It is bigger than the indoor that is how big it is. And the indoor is big as well. I can see that they are doing such a good job. In fact if you come earlier in the day, the barn tends to have a clean smell. The trainer, Jess is also really nice and helpful. The manager lives on-site, which makes me feel like the horses are all safe no matter what. What I mean is that the house is literally attached to the barn. There are two sides, one for Jess and the other is the same purpose, but Jess spends her time on the other side. The ring runs down the middle of the barns, connecting the two sides. The stalls are MASSIVE. The barn has two tack rooms and two feed rooms, one tack room on each side, one feed room on each side. Both of the tack rooms are massive, one bigger than the other but they are both perfect for everyone. This barn is completely devoid of birds, which is one of the best things since many barns tend to have many birds. There are three cats that help with that. Everyone at the barn is extremely kind and willing to help one another.

I wish that there were paper maps, there were times when having one would have been very handy. That being said, there are plenty of trail markers. They show up just as you start wondering if you're going the right way or not. The trail could use some maintenance- there were lots of downed trees. There was one you have to completely climb over (we had to scoot over it, you can't step over it as it's too wide). It had been down long enough that people had found a few ways around it that were off trail (didn't look super safe though) and instead have you go over a thinner part of the trunk. The trail is extremely rocky, which we were expecting and found it to be very fun! But make sure you are wearing shoes with a good grip. Overall, we loved this even in the rain. There's some nice waterfalls along the way, and plenty of picnicking spots.

Long Valley, NJ - I love hiking in this park. It's a nice one to do with kids, and good for a…read morecasual and relaxing hike with some scenic features. You can do easy to moderate loops of various lengths. There are paved gravel roads as well as dirt trails with large rocks, and fun scrambly sections (not vertical) along the creek on the red trail, which takes you along the creek for half the loop. This is fun for our toddler who likes to figure out the way over and around obstacles. Great for exercise and physical coordination. Fishing is possible with a permit. A few picnic tables can be found here and there. There's even a small "secret" playground with a couple of picnic tables, located at the intersection of the white and yellow trails near the trailhead. The parking lot is spacious. There are bathrooms at the trailhead but they are only open during the warmer seasons. There's lots to do nearby as well: Hacklebarney Farms Cider Mill, Alstede Farms, Ort Farms, Cooper Gristmill, and Main Street Chester with some cute shops and eateries. You can really make a full day of it!
