Rosie's is probably the best park on the east side…read more They have a BMX dirt trail, including a halfpipe for bikes and skateboarders, a 1 mile paved walk/hike/bike trail, restrooms, and a skating rink that's inline in the summer, and ice in the winter. We used to take walks on the trail once or twice a week last summer. It's a great trail - the 30 acres or so are equal parts field and forest, and the trail goes through both. It's a nice place to get away without having to drive all the way out to Stony Creek park. The trail really is beautiful and so relaxing... Were I to get back into inline skating, I'd certainly come here. The trail, plus that halfpipe really makes it a great place for kids and adults alike to come and let loose on wheels. If you're at all sporty and looking for a place that's free and close to you, this would be Rosie's!

We hadn't been to the Detroit Zoo in probably 30 years. I was blown away by the improvements…read morethey've accomplished in those 30 years. Yes, it's a long time and I realize that fact, but still... the improvements from then till now are really fantastic. For starters on navigating the zoo, there are map boards located throughout your walk and there's also a QR code reader on the boards so you can access the zoo app from your phone. As you traverse down the paths, there are food stops for the hungry kiddos and adults and plenty of little snack and sweets stations throughout the zoo and plenty of restrooms as well so no worries there. There are benches spaced throughout in case you need to take a little rest along your adventure walk. Most of the animals were out midday and that was our concern that it might be nap time for a lot of them. But we were very fortunate and saw almost everything we set out to see. We'll definitely have to go back because we didn't quite see everything we wanted to see. The penguin exhibit was fantastic. It's an arctic wonderland with a below ground level walkway so you can watch them swimming past as you walk along. The chimpanzees were a popular attraction and both kids and adults loved watching them playing and grooming each other and taking care of the young ones inside the air conditioned building. The air conditioned buildings with the indoor viewing are the best, especially on hot days so you can cool down as you watch the animals in their habitats The zoo itself is neat and clean with staff dispersed throughout in case you have questions or need help. They were actively working on new exhibits while we were there and we're looking forward to seeing these new additions that will definitely add to the fun zoo experience. Some exhibits have small entrance fees that aren't included in the zoo ticket price but they're worth it. It took us 3 hours to make it all the way around and that included a lot of stops and looking at and watching all of the awesome animals but next time we'll allow four because at the end just before closing we were rushing. From 30 years ago till now, the zoo is worthy of 5 stars with the way it has grown with the times. Get some Vitamin Z as one of their old commercial jingles suggest!

AMBIANCE: Pretty standard zoo, was not as big as we thought it was going to be. Lots of vegetation which was nice. They have plenty of bathrooms (but no AC so they are hot!). Many places to eat and street carts throughout. Decor is pleasant. They have several water misters throughout that you can walk through to cool off (that was a nice touch). The setup is a little hard to navigate (you can miss stuff or have to back track a lot). STAFF: CASHIER: friendly enough (she wasn't rude). OTHER (photo takers, exhibit workers, food vendors): All were very friendly, no complaints. CLEANLINESS: All seemed kept up fairly well. BATHROOMS: Several spread throughout pretty well. All indoors but NO air conditioning so they are very hot and muggy! Most have several stalls so not a long wait. PRICES: $21/ea ticket if ordered online (pricing changes with day you go!!!) $8 for parking on their private lots. PARKING: Amble amount on their private lots. OVERALL THOUGHTS: It's a nice zoo to go to once (unless you live in the area). Pricey tickets and pay for parking. Half of the animals were no where to be seen (maybe being so warm??), so that was a bummer and ones that were out were sleeping tucked away so hard to see. Navigating the layout was a bit tricky (lots of backtracking, to not miss things). VERY busy. WOULD I RETURN? No, once was enough for this zoo.
