We walked in, gone through the wide hallway with pictures of their cuisine on both sides, and noticed: nobody is here. There were chairs and tables behind the host's table, but it was empty. It wasn't long before someone came out to greet us and walked us into another area where customers were being tended to.
We were seated immediately; menus came through a few seconds later along with complimentary servings of chips and beans. Ooohh, I enjoyed those a lot - so much that I asked for a second serving! Munched on them while going through the menu.
I saw a dish on the walls as we walked in and thought about getting it. The problem is it was no longer on the menu, so I had to go to Plan B. It took a minute, but for one reason or another, I was drawn to the Pollo Ticuleño.
VERDICT: First thing that hit my senses is the smell of old oil the chicken was fried in, so I was a bit put off. Breading was crispy and thin, but under seasoned. The chicken had a hint of dryness, also under seasoned. However, the refried beans, ham and cheese added saltiness to each bite, so it wasn't too bad. I'd forgotten about the oil smell at this point. The fried plantains was a good palate cleanser. Overall okay, a bit above par.
FOOD: 3.5.
SERVICE: 4. Servers were attentive and were available when needed.
VALUE: 3.
PARKING: They have a big, covered parking lot right next door. Street also available.
OVERALL: 3.5.
Hubbers got the poc-chuc. We were surprised at how generous this dish was. He couldn't finish it so we asked to take the rest home which he ended up having as a snack later in the day.
Good first run, better than average, I would say. Would return if given the opp. Would like to try other dishes for sure.
