Classy old restaurant near my hotel with a large menu of local and regional standards. There was live music in the afternoon and some families enjoying the good old days. The service was very helpful, despite my poor Spanish. That said, I had better meals in Merida. I would almost say they are too traditional, while a few other restaurants manage to prepare authentic dishes with more vibrant flavors, fresh taste, more colorful and with more snap. Only wanting GOOD authentic local food to experience the culture, our private tour guide took us to Los Almendros, his favorite restaurant. Oh boy! So glad we did! When we scanned the dining room , it was filled with a mixture of locals and tourists enjoying their meals. Most of the time, we walk out if it's filled with tourists but our guide assured us that the food was fabulous. Yes, each dish we preferred was tasty snd reasonably priced. Three of us came here for a late lunch/early dinner (they close at 6). I had one of the the combo plates which consisted of longaniza, relleno negro, cochinita, and poc-chuc - everything was delicious! Also we washed our meals down with margaritas that were some of the better ones we've had in merida - not to sweet and we could actually taste the tequila, delivering a nice buzz buzz after a few. As authentic as it gets!! Papadzules were spot on with fresh made corn tortillas smothered in a green pumpkin seed sauce and tomato pulp!! The Pok Chuc's citrusy flavor came through, especially the Naranja Agria, a soury version on an orange- black beans and yet again, corn tortillas make this for a delicious meal!! Great service and great food. FYI they open at 12:00 noon and close at 6:00 pm as yelp says they close at 11:00 pm. Everything is delicious we have tried many of their dishes and they do not disappoint. My favorite is still the cochinita de pibil and sopa de lima. Definitely recommend if visiting Merida not far from the city center. Saul is definitely our favorite waiter very attentive and great customer service. read more

Panuchos de Cochinita Pibil was the best we ordered they were delicious it was a tortilla filled with beans and topped with Cochinita Pibil I highly recommend this plate don't miss it. Then we had a pork plate called Poc-Chuc a very traditional dish of the Yucatan cuisine it was good but I was not impressed with it, my mother and Auntie had Pollo Ticuleño they loved it the portion was huge. The restaurant has Live Music, traditional music was played while we ate. The habanero salsa was delicious adding a great flavor to the food. The place is spacious and plenty of people does visit this location, customer service is good. I recommend this place I will be back to try different plates and experience new flavors. read more

I used to love eating here for many reasons, traditional yucatecan food, location and ambiance. I ate there tonight with a few friends and the service was excellent, but I did notice a few things that I feel we consumers are not getting. For example, I ordered Queso Relleno which the ground meat must contain raisins among other things. Well, sadly mine had none. I feel the raisins are a must to help balance out the cheese which is a bit salty. Example #2, this place does not provide the option of avocados as a side dish, what??? I mean, avocados compliment every single dish in that restaurant. I was told that no one requests avocado here. I most doubt that since a lot of the patrons here Iv'e seen, and even my own friends, say that it is ridiculous not to have avocado. Finally, at most places when you order salutes and panuchos, they too are served with slices of avocados. When I asked about that, I was told, yeah, but we don't. I thought, are you saying that one of the best restaurant in Merida, cannot afford to offer avocados? I was told, that maybe on Sundays avocado is available as it is a must when consuming the most delicious plate "puchero". What?? Which by the way, if you intend to come and eat puchero on Sunday's, you better call before heading there, because they almost never have it as it is a very desired dish, so needlessly to say, no avocado for you! However, I do want to compliment such things as the service, the desserts, the parking, the house's pitcher of "Agua de Chaya", all that was great. I am bummed out about the avocado situation since I love avocados from this part of the world. Unfortunately, I did not take photos of the food. I sincerely hope that the management/owner takes my humble review and position on this issue as a consumer. Otherwise, I'll take my business to other places such as: La Chaya, La Chaya Maya, Habaneros, La Pequeña Susana or Hacienda Teya which all have avocados. read more

If you are looking for authentic Yucatan food, this is your place. We ordered a plate that included four of the main Yucatan dishes. This gave us the opportunity to try all, plus we ordered a side of panuchos, this dish was my favorite so far. The restaurant is small and intimate. There was a trio playing in the corner, the music was not to loud where you could not have a conversation. The service was good. We will definitely be back here again. read more

Had a nice lunch here. It was very good but different for me than what I am used to. I had Cochinita Pibil and it had excellent flavour. It was a bit strange to be server a large plate of meat with no vegetables. The tortillas that came with the meal were outstanding. The person I was with had Poc-chuc los Almendros which came out of the oven on a sizzling plate. It was also very good. The atmosphere was nice and there was an copy of the menu in English. The wait staff also spoke enough English that we could order easily. It looked like there was a parking garage for the restaurant right beside the entrance. read more

The restaurant was recommended, but fell short of our expectations. The service was good and not so good. We were a large party, but that was a plus for the restaurant on a very slow Sunday night. We had two waiters. Half the table was attended to by a very amicable server. Our half was not so lucky. I wanted to be wowed with the Food. "Wanted" being the operative word. This review is not about the food. That was great. It's the reason they didn't get a 1 star. The service while we were here was terrible. From the moment we arrived we were taken to a table with a grumpy man. Who did not seem to take any interest in helping us. While we ate he hovered over our table staring. With a upset look on his face. When my father in law tried to have a conversation with him he did not respond. Near the end after we paid our bill he made a comment about how the tip was too small and we should give him 25%!! This was the last straw. This restaurant has everything. Air conditioning for starters but that's just the appetizer. The host Phillipe was one of the kindest gentlemen we have encountered in the Yucatan as was our very helpful and professional waiter Jesus.
