I recently stopped in for some flyfishing supplies on my way to the Northfork of the Shoshone River and grabbed some new tippet line. At $18.95/spool, I thought it was pricey, but they were out of stock of most other makes in the 3X size....so I had no choice. I then drove to Cody, stopped in at Northfork Anglers and found the SAME ITEM at $8.95/spool. Wow....and OUCH. Be careful out there....and shop around. BE ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN BEFORE YOU BUY, THERE IS NO RETURN POLICY. Well, technically there is but it is one of the worst I have encountered. They only accept returns on brand new items unused (more on that later) with tags attached and in original packaging within 14 days of SALE, not DELIVERY. So if you accidentally snag the tag on something and it breaks off? No refund. You lose the original packaging? No refund. Your item gets stuck in shipping for 13 days? You have 1 day to try it out or no refund. You want to try out your outdoor item for a night and see if you like it? No refund. Their business model is to only accept returns on items they can sell as new; which means you cannot even try out most items you buy or you run the risk of not being able to send it back. How can you be a company specializing in outdoor equipment and not take back the occasional used item? (On a side note, they have two different return policies on their website. One that says 14 days and another that says 30 so they can't even get their own policy straight. I attached screenshots of these on my Google review.) My personal experience was that that I wanted to return a sleeping pad that I used for a weekend and was unsatisfied with. I began the return 34 days after receiving the pad hoping they company would at least work with me since I was only over by 4 days based on the policy I looked at. I even offered to have the return be store credit so I would have to shop there. They simply reiterated their response that it must be in brand new condition, or they cannot take it back. Sporting goods stores like Dick's and Dunham's would have taken the pad back no questions asked. Amazon has 30 day no hassle returns plus an extra two weeks to ship the item, and REI has probably the best return policy, 90 days for non members and a full year for members. Hell I could go to Discount Tire right now and they would pro rate my current tires and give me partial store credit for a new set. And yet Wind River cannot receive used items? I'm all for supporting small business but examples like this show why bigger businesses are successful; they are at least accommodating. So yes Wind River, you got my $180 for the sale of the sleeping pad. But I will NEVER shop with you again. Hopefully my experience helps people avoid this kind of situation with Wind River. read more

I was helped by Joe (I hope that's right, I'm terrible with names) and he took time to show me flies he'd use, local access points, and even gave a demo on how to tie a double surgeons knot to help save leaders.
