I can't say enough positive things about Steve Schieber and his team at Windows. I scheduled this event from overseas after my original vendor/location cancelled on me within 10 days of our event. Steve work outside of his comfort zone to allow my event to move forward as originally planned. Windows went beyond what was expected of them and managed to come up with a kosher menu for those that required it, During the event itself, the staff ensured that everything went smoothly was responsive to real time requests, and worked with us eventhough our crowd was larger than expected, and therefore the event ran a bit longer than planned. Overall, I found them very professional, and left me feeling confident that in a future event, I could rely upon them to ensure that the catering/food will be flawless. read more

I recently went to a wedding that Windows catered. Most of the time, wedding food is terrible. This food was AMAZING. It might have been the best beef tenderloin I've ever had in my life. They had a great selection of different kinds of food (it was buffet style), and I didn't eat anything that didn't taste good. And, the food was all served at the right temperature, which isn't easy to do with a buffet. The bride told me they also made her cake. Most of the time, wedding cakes are pretty, but don't taste as good as they look. This one was very simple (lemon with white frosting and raspberries), but it was sooooo good! read more

I was just married this November, and Windows was fabulous. My husband and I knew that we wanted our guests to have a wonderful food experience, so we took our caterer search very seriously. We researched many caterers in the area and went on a couple tastings before settling on Windows. In the end, Windows' customer service and quality of product surpassed those of their competition. Nicole B. was our coordinator, and Kelly P. assisted. They were both extremely helpful, responsive, knowledgeable, and accommodating. On the day of, Nicole was there to make sure everything ran smoothly, and it did. She brought out a plate of hors d'oeuvres to me and my husband knowing we wouldn't have much of a chance to eat them otherwise. For many years, we have enjoyed AFCEA DC Winter Gala- an event that Windows Catering Company supports. This event is huge and beautiful from start to finish! Year after year Windows "wows" the crowd of 800+ attendees with creative themes and exquiste gingerbread houses. We called Windows Catering Company to inquire if they would take care of our "small" bridal shower. They did and made our party just as beautiful and special as the Gala! We were so pleased with their ideas, creations and guidance- perfection in every little detail! Windows Catering Team was professional, polite and conscientious from set up, to execution to clean up and pick up. The tablescape was fun and creative and the dishes, flatware and glasses made everything so elegant. The food was delicious- especially the mini tacos and the champagne mojitos- WOW! I contacted Windows after experiencing their food at an event I had attended a few months prior. I was looking for a caterer to take care of a party for 70 people. Perhaps the size of my event wasn't what they were looking for as I felt when speaking with their VP that they honestly thought they were doing ME the favor! I explained what I was looking for, what my budget was and my needs...I was met with exasperation, condescension, and a basic feeling of "why are you calling me with this"... But I really did enjoy their food at the event I had gone to so thought I would put my ego aside and stick with it. Until upon my SECOND phone conversation with their VP... one of the FIRST things she said to me was... exhaling loudly and actually said to me "You're frustrating me". I was dumbstruck! I had shared no more than 3 emails going back and forth and this was only the 2nd conversation I would have had with this woman. I had no idea what she was talking about. She continued to take the idea i had for my party and basically change it so it would be easier for her company and require less time and effort on their part (not her words but this was the overall feeling i received). I ended up not moving forward with them based ONLY on the way they treat potential clients...if they don't need new business then good for them... my money is best spent elsewhere anyway. I did go with another caterer who not only met ALL of my needs and did not try to change anything to suit them better, but they were also less money and far less of a hassel. Oh and insult to injury? I emailed her letting her know I would not be moving forward with their company and NEVER heard back, not really caring I guess what my reasons were...Maybe they are used to this? Debbie and Lauren were a delight to work with for our wedding catering from start to finish. We felt at ease with them from the very beginning and enjoyed our interaction throughout the wedding planning process. Their service and willingness to meet our requests are what really stands out. It was helpful to have confidence knowing that we were working with professionals who not just do their jobs but also can lighten our load. Debbie and Lauren did that and more, and contributed much to the success of our wedding. Do not, under any circumstance, use this caterer!!! Although we normally do our own research before hiring, in the absence of time, we took the recommendation of an intern. That was our first mistake. It went downhill from there. We had ordered a breakfast and a lunch for 20 people. Delivery and set up and take away were included. First, the breakfast included 6 cups of yogurt, a small tray of stale danishes, some fruit salad and coffee service. I had to find bowls to put sugar and teas in (oh by the way, there were six teabags and it looked like they were left over from another job). Horribly overpriced for this at almost $500. Lunch was a bit better but still WAY overpriced at $833.16. At the end of the event, even though the agreement was for them to come and get the left over food and service on Saturday, they didn't show up until Monday afternoon! We had borrowed a room at the Landon School to do this event and you can imagine what spoiled food smells like after its been sitting out for three days. One would have expected an experienced caterer to handle these details. As most of the other posters have acknowledged, they never get back to you if you have a problem. We can't dispute it with our credit card because technically they delivered the service. Our only recourse is to write this review!!! read more

Windows has been catering the banquets for my Masonic Lodge in DC for years. Their food is always quality, the service impeccable, and they put up with our fluid schedule and frequent delays with good humor. Props to them especially for hauling their equipment up a flight of stairs (no elevator in the Lodge building), dealing with our oddly-arranged kitchen and storage areas, and leaving the dishes spotless and conveniently put-away. read more

This review is also more for customer service than anything else. I contacted Windows Catering due to decent reviews. I sent a list of questions, and received a rather rapid response with positive answers to all of my inquiries. The representative left me a voice message to follow up. I left her one in return. She left me one in return. At that point, I tried calling her at different times of the day seeing if I could catch her. I never could. I sent her an email stating that maybe email was a better means of communication as I was unable to reach her via telephone. She did not respond. I sent another follow up email. At this point, the process was dragging out for weeks. I have yet to hear a response, thus today I sent them a curt note stating that because I would require some degree of responsiveness from whatever catering company we used, we are no longer interested in their services. I'm honestly disappointed at their customer service. I was impressed with their initial responsiveness and thought they might be a great option. But why take the risk with a catering company that can so easily let you fall through the cracks? read more

We used Windows for a funeral of my grandfather and for it being a somber moment that we spent, my family was treated with kid gloves throughout the process. We did not have to worry about anything, everything was taken care of down to the cups and utensils. The spread was beautifully organized where we just had to place it on a table and looked amazing. Garrett, my sales rep, was lovely, but the delivered product was subpar. The quality, quantity and presentation of hors d'oeuvres for my 50th birthday party was overall very disappointing. I called in a panic minutes before the event to see if they had left food on the truck because the portions were incredibly small and not enough for the 40 people due to arrive. We also had to replate some hors d'oeuvres in order to improve their appearance. Stressful! I've honestly had much better looking platters from Wegman's catering, and I could have saved myself A LOT of money had I just done that. Such a disappointment. read more

The representative who worked with us to determine the menu was very accommodating and listened to our needs and gave us exactly what we needed for the event - and then some. From the salad, main courses (yes, they provided a variety of options for us) to desserts - everything was outstanding. Window's Catering served our wedding reception at Daughter's of the American Revolution (DAR) in August 2015. It was a mixed bag, and I won't use them again. The food itself was excellent. In fact, my wife and I still receive compliments on the quality of the food. Some of our guests even said it was the best food they've ever had at a wedding. Although the food was good, they messed up many key details for the reception. It turned out to be a giant headache for us. Key issues below: 1) The picture matte that was our guest book was not put out. 2) They highlighted having a personal butler for us, but we couldn't find anyone to get us appetizers/drinks during cocktail hour. 3) Red wine was only supposed to be served during dinner, but they stocked it at the bars during cocktail hour. This was at request of the venue and Window's assured us they knew venue rules. 4) The staff did not know the order of events, resulting in half our guests missing the toasts/speeches (MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT) 5) We supplied champagne for the toasts, and it was not served. Instead was put at each place setting only to get warm/not drank. 6) Cake topper provided was not on the cake for the cutting and made the WRONG cake flavors! 7) Some of the plates were missing food - for example the MOH did not receive vegetables with her steak. 8) We provided instructions that the flower vases were to be saved, but only 2 were. The staff asked my wife repeatedly (while trying to dance) what to do with them even though this was pre coordinated. 9) My wife's boss provided a nice humidor for cigars, and we left a box and note for it to be packaged carefully. It was just tossed in the box at the end of the night, spilling the beads that collect the moisture. It ruined roughly 20 nice cigars and stained the humidor. They were responsive during the process, but even after the reception when presented with these complaints they blamed us at first! All in all, it was good food and that was it. read more

I had a terrible experience which is unfortunate because I selected Windows based on yelp reviews. I believe my poor experience can be attributed to that fact that I am a college student. Moreover, two factors contributed to this horrendous experience. 1) Linens - I specifically requested nice linens because senior professionals for a variety of firms were attending the dinner. However, a couple of hours before the event they delivered extremely faded/ashy linens. I showed my mother who works in event planning and she deemed them unusable. 2) Customer Service - In short it was piss poor. They thought it was ok to provide bad customer service simply because I was a college student. Nonetheless, the food was pretty good but the experience was terrible. I will not use Windows again or recommend it to anyone. If you are a college student looking for "professional" catering for an event I would encourage you to think twice before using Windows. read more

Can't even review their services...they sent me an initial email and haven't responded to my request for a meeting. Do they want business?

Whatever you do, do not go with Windows Catering. They are certainly not the cheapest caterer out there, and we thought we were paying for quality food, service, and staff. Not the case! I will just highlight a few of our major disasters, but believe me there were many, many more. My initial complaint was the lack of organization/professionalism with our appointed windows planner. She was not on-site the day of our event, which likely contributed to many of the errors. Throughout the process my husband and I were looking for a summary of decisions we had made so we could review that we were all on the same page in terms of tables, decor, food, etc. This was never provided. We received sporadic e-mails that you would have to piece together to get the full picture. Additionally when we asked to see some potential cake designs, we were told, just google some and tell me what you want. I found one I like and then was told that design will be $3 per person. Wouldn't a professional business have a portfolio of cake designs and educate you on the pricing? The larger concerns were with how our event was run. From my comments above, I should have been more concerned that things would go wrong, but I was hopeful that due to their alleged experience/expertise, they would know what they were doing. First, they ordered the incorrect seat covers and napkins for our wedding and didn't order the table number stands at all. They also didn't confess to mis-ordering until I called them out on the wrong colors. Seems pretty dishonest to me. They also completely forgot one of our cake flavors. We only had two, had menus printed with the two flavors, and only one flavor was at the wedding. Their remedy was to offer to send us a cake on our first year anniversary. Why would we want to be reminded of their mistakes on our 1 year anniversary? Additionally, one of the main items that sold us on Windows was that in our contract, we staffed and paid for 3 bartenders. To me, that means the staff member should be a trained bartender. Well think again. At no point were there ever 3 Windows staff members behind the bar. It was embarrassing to have our guests queued up in long lines to get drinks. At many point there was only 1 bartender behind the bar. My husband had to take time from his own wedding to seek out the captain to address the issue. A second staff member was added, however his only skill set was to open beers or pour wine; he didn't know how to make drinks. Why did we pay for 3 trained bartenders when we got 1? A question that Windows was never able to answer for me. The professionalism of the staff was a major concern as well. In my mind, the proper way to serve a table it to bring all 8 meals out at once and then serve them at once. This did not happen at our event. They brought out the fish and would ask, who had the fish? Despite the fact that we had color-coded name-cards AND had provided the staff a table-by-table diagram of who ordered what. Ridiculous! At one point there was a random waiter wandering around with a kids meal, looking for the child it belonged to. My husband and I literally had to point him to the far table in the corner. Why was he carrying one meal and plating a table where none of the other kids meals at the table or adult meals were being served. During the Maid of Honor's toast, I called over our waiter to get her a glass of champagne. He waved me off and wouldn't come to the table. I was the bride! Are you kidding me?? We also were told by Windows staff that we would have a waiter assigned to the Bridal Couple to make sure all of our needs were addressed. My only need was that I wanted a glass of champagne at my own cocktail hour. No windows staff ever approached us to offer the bride/groom a drink. We had to ask our friends to brave the ridiculously long line and get us a drink. At the ceremony, they didn't set up all of the chairs and guestswere left standing. Clearly there were enough chairs ordered because everyone had a seat at dinner. With guests standing, no windows staff thought to bring more seats! Unprofessional! My last comment will be the quality of the food- which really should be the one thing they don't mess up, right? The appetizers were all supposed to be hot, and when we did sample one (it was hard to even find any being served.. again, what we thought we were paying for and actually received, very different), it was luke warm at best. At dinner, we had many guests complain that their food was cold and a few guests who got steaks that were completely rare and inedible. We addressed all these issues with our planner and then a VP and received a 10% refund to compensate for these issues. My husband and I both felt this sum of money wasn't nearly enough given the gravity of the errors and the fact that no one at windows was able to explain why these egregious errors occurred!! read more

Fantastic Catering!! We ran into Windows Catering through a list that our wedding Venue handed to us. The list was supposed to have the best caterings in the DMV area. Since food was the most important thing for us, we had to make sure we had the best catering ever, so we decided to pick 4 or 5 of top ones and see what would happen. After going through a few nightmares with some of the majors catering from the top list, we found Steve Schieber from Windows Catering. We talked on the phone for less than an hour, and before I could even blink, my proposal was right there in my inbox. He scheduled a wonderful tasting for us, and the food was outstanding!!! The best of all the caterings we went to. Steve coordinated the wedding with me and I was always impressed by his suggestions. He really knows what he is doing!! Him and his team made our wedding day be just like a dream, with their wonderful food and great service. I was excited about the opportunity to work with Windows because they have wonderful pictures of their food. Unfortunately, they never responded to my request for a quote. I am planning a wedding for nearly 200 people and was willing to pay upward of 20K for my catering expenses. My wedding planner contacted them a half dozen times regarding the status of my quote. After waiting more than 8 weeks for a quote, I called and I was connected to the person handling my quote. The Windows representative vaguely remembered me, she didn't know my location, the number of guests or any of the preferences that were provided to her previously. She promised to get a quote to me on a specific date (6 days later). The deadline has now passed and I haven't received any information. I'm grateful that I had this experience before I signed a contract with Windows, and not after I paid a deposit and was locked in. They may be a wonderful caterer, or not. I wouldn't know because for some reason, my business wasn't worth a response. read more

Office Party -- Christmas 2012. absolutely horrible. no set-up, food dumped on tables with sterno in bag for us to set up. Delivery person couldn't tell us what to do -- no English? Luckily someone in the office knew how to set-up. Sauces needed warming. they just pulled pans out of the freezer and delivered it. We had an hour before the party started and was stuck microwaving all this cold food.......I raised hell and got a portion refunded. read more

I reached out to this catering company after an extensive Google search of trying to find a Kosher caterer, for a very small number of guests, that could delivery both breakfast and lunch to my office for a client meeting. As some other reviews have stated, the initial sales response was very prompt and the salesperson actually was happy to hear from me because he was hoping to generate more business with my employer. He said he would send over some proposals "early next week" for me to look at and choose from. I gave him two weeks to do this, and never heard from him. I followed up with a phone call and he asked me "oh yeah! Whatever happened with this?" And I said, "uhh you were supposed to send me some proposals...". He said that he would and thanked me for following up. I basically had to remind him of everything we already spoke about. Now it's been two days, and I haven't heard from him. The client's visit is approaching and I had to go with another company. Very disappointing, and doubtful my employer will be using this caterer any time soon again. read more

Amazing, simply amazing. My hubby and I are huge foodies so food was a very important element of our wedding. I asked my cousin who has worked in the DC wedding industry for 25+ years who the best caterer was, and Debbie from Windows Catering was his first recommendation. We could not believe how good EVERYTHING was when we went in for our tasting...not one thing tasted like "wedding" food. We compared it to one other vendor (who had the same prices) and there was absolutely no comparison. We went table to table to greet our guests after the entree was served, and I can honestly tell you that every plate was practically licked clean - and it wasn't because there wasn't enough food! Now, don't let me forget our dessert bar. They had a peanut butter cupcake which was honestly one of the most delicious desserts I have ever had in my life, and I'm not usually even a cupcake person. And one last thing - Debbie was just amazing the day of my wedding. She had everything taken care of, not one thing was out of place and she told me it was my day and I had to enjoy my wedding and not to worry about a single thing since everything was taken care of. This business is constantly review as "one of the best" in the area. Tonight I attended a gala at Glen Echo which they catered and was thoroughly disgusted with the food and the service staff of this business. I happened to be sitting at a table of 12 honorees. Not only did they get served last, but they ran out of food! These people paid $150 for their dinner and instead of filet mignon they were served a vegetarian option. When they complained they were told it was "too bad, you can have this or nothing." The vegetables came cold, were sent back and were still served cold. The food manager came to the table to apologize; however, he did nothing to rectify the situation, neither taking names to offer a more formal apology, a reimbursement, or a future meal. This type of service from one of the premier catering businesses is intolerable. I will never patronize this business and I will be sure to tell everyone I know. read more
