We saw the Queen and the Royal Family arrive (the Royal Races last Tuesday), and from out grandstand area we could see all the crazy wealthy folks in their top hats and tails - and dresses with elaborate hats or fascinators - losing their money just as we were losing ours. It was a fun day, everything there ranges from expensive to ridiculous but memorable. Allow plenty of time to get there by car, and consider taking a picnic - but honestly sitting by my car in the huge parking area and drinking champagne, while being cost-effective, didn't seem to "fit" with the ambience there. Although some guys in top hats were doing so! I guess the nouveau riche :) For my American friends, remember that grandstand in Britain means just that - STAND. After decades of softening up in the US I was thinking we would get seats - but no!! Will I go again - quite possibly - it was fun I must say.....

Throughout the day I was betting on various horses and I only lost £2 after all, so got lucky there. Not sure how it compares to the food downstairs, but the food in the private box was quite good, and so was the service. I recommend going to Ascot to have a good time. I got here by taxi from my hotel, but from what I heard there is sufficient parking right across High Street in a large open parking lot. Also a good meeting point.

I watched every single race, and there's nothing more fun than choosing a horse in the race guide and standing up with the rest of the crowd to cheer it on. My bets are only virtual, my cousin put down £14 and got back £5.80, but I prefer to spend my money in the rows of markets with fresh food, clothes, and other bits and pieces. You can get the usual greasy fun fair food, but we took our own picnic, including picnic blankets and sun shade tents - yeah we actually got a bit of a tan despite the few black menacing clouds! There are lots of rides within the racecourse, although the bigger ones are set up on the outside, and there's a huge music stage as well as karaoke performers throughout the market. The one thing I don't like is at the end of the day when everyone leaves the place looking like a pigsty, I mean c'mon the only reason they employ rubbish collectors is because the public are lazy and uncaring. It doesn't take 30 seconds to carry your rubbish bags to the big skips they have there. Just bin it!

Friday is Oaks Day known as "Ladies Day" that does not compete with Ascot but try's hard too make a show with various popular music groups coming down later in the month. Of course The Derby now held on Saturday afternoon is the main Hullabaloo, when traffic helicopters and the entire populous appears to come ,well not everyone, not me now, why , well I prefer to watch the telly in the safety and comfort of chez moi!!

On the tour we got to see court 1, centre court, the press room, a roofop, and walk the grounds. After the tour we had tickets for the museum. The grass is absolutely breathtaking. I can't believe what great care everything is in. Especially after I toured the Australian Open in Melbroune this past summer. This venue is certainly the granddaddy of them all. I like how they leave the scores of the championship matches on the scoreboard all year. And then, throughout the park they have the entire bracket scores from every single match played during Wimbledon of that year. I liked all of the history and facts that they tell you along the way. The only downside is they need to give more time for photos. You'd get like exactly 1 minute for a photo and then get yelled at about moving onto the next location.

You can bring your own drink and food so you don't have th pay the crazy prices there. The grounds are quite large so lots of area to explore and take photos. There's plenty of parking for your lime bike too. The staff are friendly and very helpful to your seat. We night some strawberries with cream but after trying them I wasn't sure why these are so popular. They tasted very mediocre to me.
