Vibe: 9/10 Everyone at the clubhouse was incredibly kind. Had a ranger pull up and got nervous after reading some of these reviews. He just explained that it was getting a little clogged up about 2 groups ahead of us. We told him we didnt mind the slow play! Food: 6/10 Nothing super special. Had a chicken salad wrap at the turn. Fun course and reasonably priced for area. Kind of out of the way but not hard to get to.

If you golf and are staying in the 30A area (Seaside, Watercolor, etc.) you need to go play this course. It's an amazing course. They are getting beat up pretty bad on the internet because of the shape of the greens. Everyone in the south has been fighting poa annua, a weed grass that need warm nights to properly kill. They are fighting it and the greens are coming back. I played twice this week and shot 77 and 78 so they are playable and scoreable. Just be patient. It takes time to recover but with the heat at night, they greens are getting better. They are giving a discount right now because of the shape of the greens. Staff is super helpful and nice. Pace of play was great today. It's the best kept secret in the panhandle and the 2nd longest course in Florida. Play it short and have fun, play it long and challenge yourself. Very nice course but I was rushed two days in a row. The first day was Sunday March 12th 2023 and I was done in under 4-hours and then the following day the marshal gave us a warning telling us we would have to pick up our ball and we played in 4 hours 15 minutes. I am good with keeping pace but I was rushed and couldn't enjoy my round even playing quickly. Extremely frustrating!! I have a house on 30 A that my family comes down to visit and I will find somewhere else to play from now on. I would recommend the same to anyone else. read more

Course is very nice. Long fairways, challenging greens. Just don't ask for ice! That stuff must be made of gold in that club house. Stop at the Ace hardware on your way in and load up. It will save you the "mother may I" in the end. read more

Windswept Dunes is a hidden delight. We came to the gulf coast beach for the first time and I immediately began searching for a place to work on my game. Used the practice range a couple of times and it was fine. All grass and decent practice balls. Played the front 9 and what a surprise. Very generous fairways and greens and rolling terrain. great design. Very well manicured. Greens rolled true and both fairways and greens were in great shape. What a great course, well maintained, with Great Greens, Fairways, driving range, chipping and putting areas are also top Noch! The golf carts are equipped with GPS and yardage information, including an app that lets you order food and drinks. and the Marshal delivers it right to your cart no matter where you are on the course. Speaking of Marshal, Jim is the best that I have seen, He is very personable, knowledgeable and friendly, he will let you know anything about the course and hazards on the course and also keeps the pace of the course going smoothly. This is a very well maintained course that proves to be challenging and fun. It's one of the better public courses that we have played in the area. With that being said, there was some disappointing things that we experienced while playing here. Our group of four practiced at the range prior to the round, and ended up checking in with the starter 5 minutes prior to our tee time. The starter seemed to push us off the tee in a hurry as if we were already behind, mentioning that the other group was already on the green (despite being early for our tee time). We then played roughly 4-5 holes before we had personnel on a golf cart come out and tell us that we were playing too slow and that the we needed to catch up. As I understand pace of play, we are a group of four competent golfers, playing a scramble, and rarely did we see a group behind us waiting to tee off. We then continued to play as varying personnel monitored us in carts to make sure we were playing quick enough. At multiple moments we were jogging to our balls in order to avoid being reprimanded by the staff. We even skipped getting drinks or food at the turn in order to "keep up". We ended up playing 18 holes in just under 3 hours and 30 minutes (a more than respectable time for 4 people). All in all it was a fun course, but we never got to enjoy it due to unrealistic expectations of pace of play. For such an expensive course, it felt like we weren't able to enjoy the round and we left quite frustrated. read more

Think two golf courses side by side and long. The 5 tee boxes stretch back to over 7500 at the tips. The fairways are 70-100 yards wide. You still have to aim for the flatter half which allows you to better navigate the angles on approach shots . The greens are twice the size of a regular sized green but if you play to the wrong half you could be putting from 50-75 feet, sometimes with a 5 degree uphill/downhill slope somewhere in the center. Green speed and roll were predictable and not as fast as they may be later in the year. The course generally plays as a secluded forest/dunes course. Some of the most picturesque holes have 360 degrees of 100ft tall pine trees, fairway long sand dune bunkers, large ponds, and elevated greens. Get your beverage(s) and food before and mid round at the turn. read more

Was decent as far as the course goes. Staff is very friendly but they rush people. We were on pace according to the computer on cart but the Marshall had come over telling us that we would have to speed up because we were leaving people waiting on us. He tried to get us to skip a hole but we weren't going to do that because we had paid for the full 18. We ended up finishing the 18 hole course in about 4 hours leaving very little time to enjoy the game. For $115 a person I'd like to take my time and enjoy the course. read more

Best public course in the area. They don't do any advertising, or GolfNow, so it remains "off the radar". Beautiful course, lots of sand. Tee shots look intimidating, but in reality, the fairways are wide. The designer made it look hard, but play fair. Huge greens. The greens on holes 9 and 10 are 50 yards deep! The golf carts have great GPS, which show yardage to the pin location for that day! Very cool. You can order food and drinks from the GPS and they will deliver it to you on the course. This course is fantastic. The holes have a lot of character and the course is very playable. Greens were impeccable and the strangest combination of soft and fast I've ever seen. If not for the lack of contouring on green, the speed would have pushed the difficulty out of touch. I will definitely be back. read more

Went and played Windswept Dunes today. The course is in great shape. The club house workers were very friendly. Overall a great day of golf. Only down side is that it is 30.00 more per player if you are not a resident of Florida. That was very disappointing. read more

6 of the 9 Fraternity Brothers from ECU played this course April 2019. We had 3 brothers that could not get out of bed that day. HA HA. I want to say it was a super nice course and even with a rain delay, the course drained well enough not to affect us after we got back out there. Beautiful big fairways with Challenging bunker locations and the Greens were rolling I would guess at a 10 much better than the last 2 we had played the last 2 days. I love fast greens. Plus the greens were Big so they could really take a lot of play as the holes could be placed all over the place. We have known each other for 30 years so we are in our mid 50's and we played from 6000 yards ( White) Champion tees read 7700 yards. DANG so this course can be for everyone in my opinion. We met the owner and designer and he was just so Happy we came out and really appreciative that we did. read more

Yep... MOST of these reviews are dead on. Fantastic course. Played on 7/17/17 with a 10:00 am tee time. Arrived at 8:30 as we were unsure of Florida traffic coming from California. (There was none). Was told the course was wide open and go out when we were ready (We were a 2 some). No one on the range but us, so we hit some balls and off we went. The course is very long but with all the tee options it's not a big deal. The fairways are WIDE and perfect. The greens HUGE but a little slow. You will see no houses on the course, nor will you see another fairway. Didn't see anyone else until 17. There IS drinking water on the course, and you get a nice ice cold scented towel at the turn. As for the staff, I'm an idiot as I locked our keys in the rental car as it absolutely poured rain as soon as we were done playing and I rushed to throw our clubs in the car. Had to call AAA to come resuce us. The guy in the pro shop was everything you've heard of southern hospitality. We had no cell service so he lent me his phone, and when I went out to meet the tow truck he loaned me an umbrella. Could not have been more friendly. Played a couple of other 'higher end' courses during the week, but we liked this course more and will certainly be back! read more

Today was the first time my boys and I played Windswept Dunes and we will definitely play this course again on future vacations to Santa Rosa Beach! Absolutely beautiful, tremendous layout, extremely well manicured course. The captain from our charter fishing trip recommended the course and it is already one of my favorite courses. Extremely long course with 7 different tee boxes to match your skill level. 30 minutes north of Santa Rosa and 45-60 minutes from Destin but well worth the drive. You won't find a course this beautiful in Destin. read more

Very nice course, but not worth $80 green fee. We called before playing to make sure no aeration or sanding was going on. Mark was very upbeat indicating it had occurred a couple weeks ago. The greens were fine. However, many of the back 9 fairways were covered with lime making it frustrating and messy. Eric was manning the front desk. When we arrived, he was not a friendly fella when checking in to pay for our golf. Nor was he when we voiced our issue with lime all over the fairways. Will not play this course again. read more

I hate even letting people know about this gem of a golf course, but I know a great course needs to be shared. I'm a part-timer in the area and always bring a group of guys down for a long weekend of golf. We had planned to play several courses in the area (the normal Destin courses). Windswept is not in Destin, it's on the north side of the Bay and I had suggested we give it a try. Most people don't want to go over the bridge to go golf. We agreed this one would be first one on the list to play and we loved it so much we cancelled our other tee times and played it the next day. We played 27 holes each day for two days. The Bad The only thing you might question is the clubhouse. Looks like a normal public course club house that belies what is in store for you. Don't let the clubhouse fool you, the course is what you are there for. It has a snack bar and small seating area, that's about it. Range facility is fine. The Good The course. Whoever keeps the greens is a freaking sadistic individual. It is like putting on tabletops!!! The greens are true, just lightening fast. The only poor green we saw was #10, it was top-dressed. We loved the links style layout and with six sets of tee-boxes there is something for everyone...from the bomber to the beginner. You can mix-and-match to make it a bit more challenging. We played the Dune tees and that was a few yards under 6,000. Plenty of length for this part-time golfer. Wide fairways allow you to enjoy a round of golf without worrying about having to hit it straight every time. But don't let the width fool you...hit it a bit out of the fairway and you may have trouble finding your ball. When you make it to the tee, you will have a wonderful time pulling your hair out as you try to figure out the greens. We were just getting to that by the time we were done with our last round! The Ugly On number 1 it will drive you nuts that you can have a perfect looking drive and not find the ball. So, on number 1 keep it left!!!! If it jumps off the fairway on that hole by just a little, it can get lost in a hurry. So, to wrap it up. This is a fantastic course that is in fantastic shape. Golf carts are gas powered because it is a distance between some of the tees. It is a great course for a group to go out on and allow everyone to compete. From the tips it is about 7,500 yards, so bring the big hitters. From the more forward tees it is around 5,400. read more

The course is fairly new, 2004 I think. It is in very good condition, fairways are wide, greens are large but true and in good shape. Played it in August 97 degrees! Personel nice and friendly, it's a bit away from everything so it is not crowded at all and the price is right. We paid $48 for 18 holes on a weekday. read more
