I initially went to Dr, Winkelmann to get my neck adjusted. While I was waiting for my appointment I saw that he offered Dry Needling. I had been advised to try dry needling by my doctor and physical therapist due to a work injury from April of 1999. However I had been EXTREMELY hesitant to try it due to the fact that the last thing I wanted was to have needles jabbed into my hands that were already causing me a great deal of pain. However I was at my wits end, so I asked Dr. Winkelmann about dry needling after my adjustment. I described the type of injury I sustained (Glock 22; 40 caliber had experienced a catastrophic malfunction in my hands. Also that since August of 2018 my quality of life had been limited due to the amount of nerve pain I was experiencing.) and if he thought I would benefit from dry needling. Dr. Winkelmann advised that he thought that I would and that he would really like to try it. So I scheduled an appointment for the next day. I went in with a positive mind set because I had tried everything except pain management medication. Dr. Winkelmann asked where the majority of my pain was located and placed needles in that area along with the surrounding area. I was surprised that the appointment had gone pretty quickly and that it wasn't as bad as I had imaged it in my head. He advised that I needed to apply heat after I got home. Once home I did like he said, however my entire hand fired up with pain. I remember thinking that I might have made a mistake. However the next morning I woke up to no pain at all and it had well over a year since I felt like that. I can truly say that the quality of life that this has given me is LIFE CHANGING. I had excepted that my hands would hurt for the rest of my life and that I would just need to live with the limits that this injury had caused. This has given me hope that I can get back to my active life (hunting, camping, gardening, pack trips with our horses, etc,) I have continued with appointments because we are trying to see what brings on the pain due to weather changes and activity.
