These owners have changed venues a few times over the years and is now in an old Western Steer building. Roomy interior decorated in country charm. Good fried seafood, fried chicken, great burgers and steaks and excellent country breakfast. Award winning Customer service and good portions. There is very little to choose from in Ashe County and places have come and gone but this place is an institution. The prices are fair and there is something for almost anyone on the menu. They are a great country home cooking kind of place. Every time i visit I love eating here. read more

My husband and I ate dinner at the Winner's Circle on January 14, 2019. Spaghetti was the Monday night special, and we both ordered it. Service was incredibly slow. We waited over 15 minutes for our food but noticed that the couple next to us, who also ordered spaghetti, got their food within 5 minutes. As our waiter never came back to check on us, I asked the cashier if she could check on our order. The waiter had forgotten to submit it to the kitchen. I had worn a leather wristband to the Winner's Circle that night and noticed it was missing when I returned home. I called the restaurant the next day and spoke to Linda to see if anyone had turned it in. Linda could not find the wristband but told me I could come help her search for it. I went back to the restaurant an hour or so later and asked Linda to call the cashier on duty the night before to see if the wristband had been turned in. She did so reluctantly. The cashier said someone had turned in the wristband which she placed on top of the filing cabinet behind the cash register. However, it had disappeared by the time I arrived. Based on my experience at the Winner's Circle, I would not recommend this restaurant. read more

My family and I came up for my brothers birthday to eat at the winners circle. They food was okay, I got the mini burger which cost $7.49 plus I got buffalo chips and a salad a total of $18.00. I walked in and 2 waitresses were sitting there talking, I waited to see if they would acknowledge me, one turned around looked at me with an attitude and proceeded to walk away. She came back and said nothing, so I asked the other woman who's doing the seating and she was like omg I didn't realize you were waiting. Yeah ok... so then they got the Spanish woman to wait on me (which is fine) but the one with the attitude literally waited on every table around me but mine. I can't remember the last time I stayed at a Best Western, but this fit our budget and our last minute travel needs, so we booked it. Overall it was a nice place to rest for the evening. (And who doesn't love rocking chairs outside every door?) Alicia checked us in and was extremely welcoming. Enthusiastic, very knowledgeable about the area, and as we shared with her our plans for the next day she gave us plenty of tips (and a good local map). Our second floor room was just what we needed for the night (note: no elevators), it came with a microwave and a fridge, though the fridge didn't seem to work, however we knew we wouldn't be needing it so we didn't call down. My only complaint was the breakfast. At check-in we received a voucher for either milk and cereal, muffin and a drink, a pancake or french toast platter, or an egg based platter in the restaurant downstairs. I ordered the muffin and it arrived on a plate fresh out of the microwave still in the plastic Otis Spukmeyer packaging. The egg platter came with barely warm "toast", paper thin serving of eggs, and over cooked sausage patties. I get that it's a complimentary breakfast, but they should really just stop including it if that's what they're going to serve people. I would have much rather driven down the street and paid for a breakfast. Overall - comfy beds, clean rooms, free wireless, nice staff - just skip the breakfast (though the restaurant's dinner specials didn't look half bad). Grocery stores nearby, and a beautiful view of the mountain from our window. read more

This restaurant is connected to the hotel that we always stay in and they provide a free breakfast when staying there. We always look forward to the breakfast where we get a choice of a few different things. You can either get cereal with milk; eggs, bacon or sausage, grits or gravy, and biscuit or cornbread; french toast with bacon or sausage; or pancakes with bacon or sausage. All come with either orange juice or coffee. The breakfast is always freshly made and quite tasty. Also we don't have to worry about where to go for breakfast. The staff is always friendly and attentive and by the second day, the waitress automatically brought us our drinks when we sat down. She had remembered what we always ordered. We will be returning to NC in a few months and will be staying at the hotel. It's centrally located to where we need to be with a good breakfast. The hotel itself is in desperate need of an update, and I know most of my friends would prefer to stay in a more updated hotel. So I would not recommend this hotel for their needs. As for the price and the included breakfast, it's a darn good deal. read more

Way overpriced. The food was nothing to cheer about. Baked potato was not fresh and was brown. One of us got flounder. It had been frozen and was chewy. For the mountains this is the place to go for prime rib! Friday and Saturday nights this place is a popping. Their salad bar is a great start to a great meal. When you get a side of a baked potato that about takes up the whole plate there is no way to go away hungry. Then their lunch specials are also a deal--- try it and see if you don't agree. read more

They advertise prime rib and steaks but what they serve is a roast of some sort. Though the management states that they buy prime rib and the steaks on the menu, she either doesn't know the difference in the cuts of meat that she is serving or is serving a cut that is not the same as presented on the menu purposely. Food quality has dwindled over the past three years. And unfortunately there are few if any restaurants to chose in this area. This is one I do not recommend. read more

Thought this would be a better dining experience but was disappointed. :( The food just wasn't the best and at these prices I really expected more. If you order an entre it is still an EXTRA $4.99 for the salad bar. Which was mediocre at best. But what really got me was that I was told by the waitress there would be an EXTRA $2.00 charge just for me to give my 3 year old son some of the food off my plate. I rarely eat an entire entre by myself and he does not eat that much so we often share. If I was sharing with my husband maybe I could understand the restaurant adding an extra charge. But $2.00 extra for the same amount of food and just for my son to eat from my plate was ridicules in my opinion. We have no plans to eat here again. Next time we will search for a more "family friendly" place to eat. Not a place that has to add extra charges to everything to make their prices appear low. read more

Really disappointed. We hadn't been here for a few years because of our past experience, but we thought we'd give them another chance. I was shocked when I saw the prices, but thought maybe Winners Circle had stepped up their game. Nope. First of all, many menu items are not available on Sunday. There is no mention of this on the menu, so it was annoying when ordering to be told half of what we were trying to order was unavailable. The prices are extremely high for what we got. Steaks were low quality and overcooked. Wife had chicken which seemed to be warmed over from the night before; overcooked and no flavor. I don't mind paying for good food, but don't like paying for a Cadillac and getting a Yugo. Our server took our order, brought our food, and that was the last we saw of her. No refills, no checking to see if our orders were correct. My wife was missing some of her order which, when the server finally brought our bill, was too late to ask for. The cashier didn't want to adjust the bill for the missing item, so I didn't even mention the unedible chicken. There is no competition in Jefferson, so the owners have no incentive to improve. I definitely do NOT recommend Winners Circle, and will definitely not be back. read more

Our first time eating there and last time. Was excited at first to see that they had re-opened after being closed for awhile. They should have considered staying closed. Our server ,who was pleasant by the way, knew that it was our first time, so he took a few minutes to talk about the menu selections. That was good. After a very long wait, I asked him to please check the status of our order. Others coming in later were being served before us. Note that I noticed our server 15 minutes earlier trying to deliver our food to a table where the couple had already eaten and their plates still on the table. So the food he tried to deliver them evidently ended up at our table twenty minutes later. Nothing was done to remedy the problem. As I went up front to pay for our food, I asked the women there if she was the owner, to which she replied yes. I informed her of our unsatisfactory experience and all I received from her were excuses. I did not ask for my money back. So, I write this for the benefit of future/potential diners who are considering going there and for the benefit of ALL business owners. Now the question to ask yourselves, as owners, is, was the $37.00 I received from the patron worth all the damage they are going to do to our reputation (if that is possible)? Live by the motto: Never, ever let a customer leave your establishment unhappy!! Fix the issue and it will back the $37.00 100 fold! read more

Whenever we go to Jefferson, we always stay at the Best Western. This little restaurant is within the hotel and breakfast here is included in the room price. Instead of the usual "free breakfast" standards of toast, muffins, cold cereal, etc., this little restaurant gives you a choice of cereal and muffin, or two eggs with bacon or sausage, grits or gravy, biscuit or toast, or a third option of French toast with bacon or sausage. The eggs are always perfectly cooked, the bacon crispy and they make wonderful biscuits with little pockets of butter. My only food disappointment was the French toast, which wasn't quite hot and a bit on the soggy side. The waitstaff works hard and fast, and they always smile. I was pleasantly surprised on the second morning to have the waitress come to the table already prepared with my decaf and my daughter's orange juice in hand. I've not tried the other meals here, so can't really give more than 3 stars. The food isn't gourmet, but it's a solid, friendly place to have breakfast. read more

Some good, some not so good. They have a very nice salad bar, lots to choose from and kept up. There were four of us, my sister-in-law had the chicken Philly cheese sandwich which arrived stone cold and my friend ordered a penne pasta with shrimp, bacon, vegetables and Alfredo but got fettuccini with shrimp and Alfredo - the only thing right was the shrimp, it was good just wrong. We also noticed tables around us were slow to get their food but once it came I think it's generally pretty good. read more

Tried this place for the first time last week and was highly impressed. My husband and I did the family style breakfast. We got a ton of food for a great price. What has happened to this once fantastic restaurant?? The sanitation grade is down to 90.....almost a "B" and you have to be pretty bad to get a "B" but Winner's Circle is teetering on the edge. We ate there Friday PM 8-30-2013. We usually eat there when we come up to spend the weekend at our cabin and we have always thought the food to be a savory experience. Food used to be fresh and top notch. We like the salad bar because of the shredded lettuce which few restaurants offer on their salad bars. This time the shredded lettuce was not fresh, almost tan looking, and not up to the usual standards. My wife's hamburger steak came out way over done and dry and she could not eat it. I asked about the catfish filet and was told they did not have it but I could get salt and pepper catfish. What came out looked and tasted just like Gorton's frozen fish sticks with three or four of them stuck together while being fried and there were two hunks of them like that on my plate. I pulled them apart and they were fish sticks!. Salt and pepper catfish are whole fish head off deep fried with salt and pepper. This was horrible and not in keeping with what we grew accustomed to getting on our previous visits there. So sad.but we will have to take a break from Winner's Circle for a long while and try some other places for sure. Don't waste your money at Winner's Circle. There is no value there. read more

Salad bar start wasn't bad. Restaurant wasn't very busy when we arrived. However, the server was a bit slow and not super attentive. I ran out of water and our food took a longer than anticipated. When the food arrived, my steak was burned all around all the edges. The cut of meat looked great if it had been properly cooked. The server acknowledged that the meat was too done. She asked me to try it and it had a burned flavor and was ruined. She took it back and told me she'd have another one quickly. I waited and waited. My husband was finished with his meal and mine was still not out. When they finally delivered my now pink steak, they didn't offer fresh fries or bring me the bread that came with it. They seemed offended when I asked for fresh fries to accompany my steak and asked about the bread. Her response when I asked about bread was, "It comes with a yeast roll....did you want that?" Duh, of course I wanted it. I didn't send the steak back even though the second one also was not cooked as ordered. This particular steak didn't seemed to be a premium cut of meat like the first one either. Even though it wasn't cooked well done as ordered, it was dry. I made the waitress aware and showed her it was pink not well done. She was not interested in making me happy nor did she offer to allow me to see a manager for my inconvenience. She asked me if I wanted it cooked more which I didn't have her do because first of all, my husband was done and I was aggravated by this time and the steak was pink but already flavorless, so cooking more would have made worse at this point. I ate like 2 bites of a nasty steak. At no time, did she offer to discount a meal that was inedible. I waited in line to pay our almost $50 bill and the cashier wouldn't get off the phone to take my money. I seriously started to just lay down the cash on the bar and walk away but I thought I'd let her know about my subpar experience. She offered no discount and no real concern for the terrible service and bad dining experience. She took my money and told me to come back..........that will not happen! Winner's Circle is a loser in my opinion. I was very patient and gave them several chances to make it right. The waitress, the hostess and the cashier all were made aware that a customer was not satisfactorily served and nobody made an effort to rectify the situation. read more

Okay this was $79 for two queens in Mt. Jefferson, North Carolina. This was like the old Route 66 Row Motels where you parked you car right in front of your door. There was a porch that ran the length of the building with chairs outside each door and people would sit out here and do something amazing--talk to one another. A person would have to be freakin' crazy to do that in Chicago but in Mt. Jefferson, North Carolina they might think you're one of those uppity ups if you don't. Refreshing. That made it worth staying here. I wasn't stuck in the room watching old movies on their 32' plasma screen. Breakfast was free in the on site restaurant called The Winner's Circle and you had your choice of one of three types of breakfasts from a voucher you were given at check-in. The food was tasty, the restaurant was clean and our waitress was very pleasant. I love a pretty southern accent taking care of me in the morning. Beds were soft yet firm and the sheets and blankets were thick and pillowy--is that how you spell it? And actually, the bathroom was one of the largest I have ever seen in an Inn of any kind. I definitively suggest ya'll come back and stay at the Eldreth Best Western Inn 'iffin you'all are down by this neck of the woods. Great place and nice enough people. read more

I tried to end our special day with a meal from Winner's Circle Restaurant. What a mistake I made. The menu called for a Friday special of catfish. Our server did not inform us that in small print that the special ended each day at before 3:00 pm. (This special was in the dinner menu however, how many people eat dinner at 3:00 pm.) We ordered two catfish plates. When the plates arrived there was nothing on the plates that looked liked fried catfish. They were all shaped the same and heavily breaded. They looked like something you might get from a fast food restaurant. There are no words to describe what they tasted like. To make matters worse, when I got the bill I was charged $13.99 per plate. I had $27.98 in two plates of food I would not feed my dog. When I addressed this bag of frozen garbage to the cashier, she got defensive. To say the least I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone unless you are one that enjoys a frozen bag of food fried up and served hot to you. If so, then enjoy. read more
