Pub Pretzels and Warm Cheese Sauce
    Susie G.

This was a happening spot on a Saturday evening. Full and noisy. Pretzel was good. I prefer traditional beer cheese to the queso dip. Salad was disappointing, chicken was rather rubbery. Drink was ok, on the sweet side. Had to ask twice for the soft drink I ordered.

We come up to West Jefferson North Carolina for random vacations. We are up here for my spring break. This is a new restaurant that opened up not too long ago and we decided to go check it out for date night. 10 out of 10. Highly recommend! There were trivia games at the table that were super fun to play. The food was really good and reasonably priced. The service was amazing and actually got compliments while we were just eating. And let me say, one of the nicest bathrooms that I've ever been in! There was a waterfall installation right before you go to the bathroom.

We love popping into West Jefferson for the culture. We decided to have dinner at The Town Tavern. This place used to be a pizza restaurant. It's a nice "upscale" pub with good food. We had a new server, who was very nice, but obviously still learning the ropes. We had a pretzel appetizer...very nice. I had the Tavern Cheesesteak which was very tasty. Heads up! If you get the jalapeños, be prepared for an out of body experience. I like it very much!

Finally a place in West Jefferson to go watch a game. TVs everywhere. Not a bad seat in the house. It also has an upstairs area for more privacy or large party that wants to be together. Food is pretty much what you would find in a sport bar. Good but nothing eye opening. Decent drinks, I hear but I only had a Guinness draft. It was poured perfect tho. Super close to 5 stars from my first visit from the new spot. I'll go back.

Want to add the menu photos but it seems it wouldn't allow me to edit my review without a bunch of words. So here is the front page and the back page of a glossy menu.

Unfortunately, the service brings our overall rating down to three stars. After our first visit, we thought the rudeness we encountered might have just been a fluke, so we gave it another try about four weeks later. Sadly, it wasn't. Both times, the hostess seemed visibly annoyed to seat us, as if helping customers was a burden. On our second visit, we didn't even bother with a table--we sat at the bar. Unfortunately, the servers on both occasions carried the same attitude, acting as though serving us was an inconvenience. The worst moment came when my wife asked the bartender a simple question: which sauce he preferred between two options. He actually laughed in her face, rolled his eyes, and replied with a snarky tone, "We make one in-house and the other is store-bought." She had to call him out by saying, "What's so funny? I don't work here, how would I know that?" Only then did his attitude shift, and while he became friendlier afterward, the first impression was already made. It's a shame, because the food is genuinely good. On our first visit, we had an Italian sandwich, a burger, and some boneless wings--all excellent. On our second visit, we liked the wings so much that we each ordered them again, trying several flavors. The only miss were the pub chips--nothing special there. Overall, if you're willing to risk unfriendly service, the food is worth trying. Maybe you'll catch the staff on a better day. To those about to dine--good luck!

I have no notes, this was a classic burger: I loved the hint of spice from pepperjack, the sweet contrast from the pineapple, and the patty was perfectly cooked. The pub chips were well-seasoned and crispy. The iced tea had just the right amount of sugar, and was very refreshing. The ambiance is fine: a bit dim inside, but there's also outside seating. Service was friendly & fast. Parking is free in downtown Jefferson. 10/10 would recommend!

The fact that our wonderful waitress went out of her way to correct a mere one-dollar error--without waiting for it to be discovered later--speaks volumes about her character. Even though she seemed pleasantly busy (or perhaps she's simply one of those delightful overachievers who takes genuine pride in her work), she still chose to do the right thing with a smile. It made me chuckle in the best way and turned an already lovely meal into something truly memorable. The food was perfect, the service was warm and thoughtful, and the entire experience left me feeling genuinely appreciated. Thank you, dear waitress, for your refreshing honesty and kind heart. But I wiggled my vehicle into a tight spot and went in for a burger and a beer. I believe there were about 10 to 12 options available on tap, and I went with what was listed as an Irish stout from somewhere in the Northeast. It wasn't bad, though it seemed more like an imperial stout. My sandwich choice was the Cowboy, with ground elk at its core. It was a good choice too, and the accompanying fried onions and melted cheese complemented the meat well. I ordered the burger medium, but I think I'd go for medium rare if I could go back in time. The medium option wasn't bad, but I think a little less heat and a little more moisture would only make things better. I kept things simple with the side item, going for the fries which were of the thinly sliced McDonald's variety, not bad but nothing remarkable. The server covering my table was pleasant and prompt, though soft spoken so I occasionally had to ask her to repeat herself amidst the music and noise. I wouldn't call any of these selections a bargain, but the prices didn't veer too far from what you'll find in many burger joints. All in all, not an earthshaking experience, but a place I'd be willing to go back to. 3.5 stars.

We started with the pickled board, and it was just fun. A little bit of everything: pickled veggies, cucumbers with those pretty curls of onion, pimento cheese, bread, pork rinds, a little tomato jam. It felt like a Southern snack platter put together by someone who actually cares about balance and flavor. I ordered the pickled salad with chicken, and it was right up my alley. Fresh greens, great textures, pops of color, and the chicken was nicely seasoned and grilled. The dressing had that bright, tart thing going on that makes you want more of it. I would absolutely get this again. My husband got the Cassie salad, and while he said it was "fine," even he admitted everything was fresh and well done. The vibe here is relaxed, cozy, a little rustic, the kind of place that feels local in the best way. For a casual lunch in Boone, it hits the spot. I'd go back in a heartbeat.
