Complete Incompetence!!! Stay away! Took two days to take a written test for my motorcycle license. First day they took my info at 330 in the afternoon, told me to sit in a section. Nobody came to retrieve me. I had to ask at the window and they tell me I had to fill out an application on the computer there. Because of their incompetence, I was only able to pay fees and take a picture. I had to come back today for the test. Arrived at 10am and it is now 4:17 and I am still dealing with this DMV. Wait in line to show proof documents because they say I have to get the "real ID" for flying. They tell me I need to take a picture, again! Wait in line for picture and she tells me I don't need one. More wasted time. I get in line to take the tests, you have to take renewal car license if it's been over a year since last test in order to get a motorcycle test. I take the written class C test and then the computer doesn't give me the option to take the motorcycle test. The person at the window who originally helped me today forgot to add it. I'm waiting again. Oh and they stop giving the test at 430... it's 417. Unbelievable!!! They need to get it together quick because I'm not coming back!! read more

Screw this DMV or any other DMV. Just go to AAA. Some of the staff is pretty nice but i'm not rating DMV any more than 1 star.

Process for the in-car driving test was smooth as can be from start to finish. Very friendly employee out back directed us to the front door, where we went to the "appointment" line, had temperature checked and were sent inside. Very short wait to start the process inside, sent out to get car for driving test - safe protocols all around. Side note - test was not any of the routes shown on youtube for this location (turned left out of the driveway), but as I waited for my daughter, I saw 3 out of 4 return having passed the test. Wonderful security guard out back sending everyone the right direction, keeping everyone spaced and shouting "Congratulations young man/lady!" as they return with passed tests. Whole process took about an hour - couldn't have been better. Clean restrooms were open as well. Further side note - I saw one testee asked to open their hood before the test. That was not on the regular list, so my daughter would not have been able to do this smoothly if asked - thankfully she wasn't. Be ready just in case. read more

Today a lady I believe she was in #26 rudely told him no and she told him I already asked th told manager she's in number 15, she said no but you can still ask her.. lady shut up. Was just at the dmv and it only took 15 minutes to renew my license! Best experience at the dmv ever!!! Wanna know how I did it? I made an appointment and had very thing ready when I walked in. The check in lady was amazed that I had everything I needed...I followed their directions. So that's how you have a good experience at the dmv. Simple as that. read more

Yelling at me constantly and telling me to be quite when I asked him a question completely ruined my day and made me doubt myself. Some are amazing, others ... Well... Whatever they tell you they can do over the phone... They can't and won't do at the counter. So whatever information they give you over the phone, get a second opinion and if you think you've got everything you need, you're probably wrong. I made an appointment and everything took no more than about 20 minutes at the DMV. A very nice lady (I think her name was Helen) who was assisting me was very attentive and helpful. Altogether I was beyond satisfied with my experience something that I through I'd never say about dmv. read more

Okay... What happened? Went this week and there was no line. Crazy change from only a month ago.

If you're a patient person like I am.. then this is a good DMV. Yes, going to any DMV is a nightmare. 4 stars because their ID processing is a nightmare. **FOR WALK INS** I waited two hours outside. Went to front desk, showed paycheck, birth certificate, and social. Sadly, my social went through the wash. Front desk was kind enough to see if it was acceptable for the new REAL ID (not regular). She was friendly. Sadly, my SS was not accepted. (Which I get) I brought many documents proving my name. She took my birth certificate and paycheck stub. I was directed towards corrections. This is where I filled out my ID stuff through a computer. This is where I got upset. You're where people take their test for licenses. You get told to be quiet, no phone, and be in a very little space to make double lines. Then you go to a person where they give you a number to wait. What this person does, no idea. Then you wait for that number they call out. I waited almost another hour. (Got at walk in line at 2, waited 2 hours for front desk, waited in this double line for another 30 or more) got my number called, and didn't get why they couldn't have done the same thing when someone gives me a number. This gentleman was patient enough (its past 5pm, when DMV closes) to have me call my bank when I knew there was enough money in my account. I learned later Visa servers were done. Started to make sense for wait times. Luckily, my card got accepted after being declined 3 times. I then took my pic. However a girl with a shaved head (no idea why) refused to take a pic without a hat on. Obviously, this caused more delay. But, it this gets four star review because everyone I dealt with was super friendly. Not 5 star because really... when you lose your ID, it should be way more simple to replace it. Not line after line. I got there at 2pm, didn't leave till 6:30. read more

I took a driving test there and the people there were really nice! I did not have to wait to take the test :)

After reading all the bad reviews on my way to this location I kinda wanted to go back home and cry lol but I didn't. I got there at 7:40 and they open at 8. Some lady helped us even before they open, by provinding us the formulary needed according to the transaction we wanted. So far so good. After they opened, everything was really fast. I waited for about 10 min and they called me to window 25 and this guy helped me with a big smile. We even talked about how bad at cooking I am. After he checked all my documents and I paid the fee and I went to have my picture taken. The lady was very serious but I made her laugh really hard when I got excited over my picture, I actually looked prettier than I am lol. After that, Took my written test and I passed first attempt. The last lady I talked with, said thanks and bye to me with very nicely. I can't be happier with my experience at dmv today!! Thanks guys :) read more

Holy Shitter....Did I make a huge mistake an offer to take me blokes' daughter to get registration for her car. What was I thinking, I reckon I probably wasn't, since I was half a sleep when he called me to ask if I'd take her. I was just trying to be a nice guy....well no more Mr. Niceguy. I reckon when me got here to the states, from Australia, it seemed that it took me all but an hour or so @ the DMV to complete the process of gettin' me papers.....Well some things have definitely changed. It certainly appears in the past several years as though time completeIy stops here @ the DMV, which goes against every law of physics, but maybe those laws don't apply at the DMV. Your left standing in line wiv about 100-200 seriously pissed off, belligerent, impatient and smelly people, who looked as though they just rolled out out bed and are still in their pajamas and haven't showered in a week. Well, go ahead and let them bitch and moan, I couldn't understand what most of the people were saying anyways; but the fightning in line for spots, spoke volumes that it's too early in the morning for this shit. The swarm of people were absolute crazy mad, like it's the freakin' opening night of "Iron Man 3". The people working at the DMV obviously aren't aware that you have a life outside this slice of hell. I reckon were #112. Now I realize why people make appointments....duh! She said my car will never been sold without a title in front of my buyer, advising him to don't buy it (it's none of your business). Pain free drive test. Don't stress, this is probably the best place for the drive test. My local DMV (in San Pedro) was backed up with appointments so I opted for this DMV (1.5 hours from home). I came a few days before the test to check it out and it wasn't so bad. On the day of my test, a Thursday at 10:30 a.m, the roads were relatively empty as I arrived around 9:30 for 10a.m check-in (come early!!) . There is usually a line out the door but if you have an appointment drive test, you head straight to window 26 and the line is super short. Don't forget your updated insurance/registration/ permit and DL of your companion driver. I took the test with the proctor named Richard and we was super relaxed and made the experience easy and pain free. I highly recommend this DMV for your 1st time drive test. Don't worry about trying to figure out the route before hand, it's mostly residential and only a couple minutes on the main roads. YOU CAN DO IT! read more

Easy in and out experience, especially when times get quite full. I arrived 30 mins. before opening, they offered a really quick process before doors even opened, papers were handed, questions were answered, suggestions were made. They knew what they're doing which made me less anxious and more relaxed coming from a very impatient person myself. DMV is the only place I know where you can actually watch people age right in front of you while they wait to be called. All I can recommend you to do is to never go to this place without an appointment. Always call in before going in. It's unfortunate but the reputation of how bad customer service is at a DMV is validated by this location. read more

she didn't go to the DMV in there just scamming you to buy two different ideas I bought one ID they say I'm going to have credit for the to make it to a real ID and they lied to me and they said it was going to be early for that year promotional thing the guy didn't tell told me that I had six weeks after I pay for it for credit for the real ID when I came in to make the real ID I got charged an extra $30 now I have two drivers license and one of them is a real ID got them three days away from each other so they lied to here and scam you. read more

The front desk people were very nice, but not the driving examiner. He was an iranian/middle eastern guy? He was a complete a-hole. He acted like I didn't know anything. He was just yelling at me the whole time. I totally yielded when I turned left (looked on the right and left sides), but then he put his foot on the break (I was testing with a driving schools' car). A car passed the red light with 60 miles per hour and he blamed it on me. He said "WHAT ARE YOU DOING? DID YOU KNOW WHAT YOU JUST DID?" and what I did was not an automatic fail, but since he had control of the breaks he decided to fail me. He was completely unprofessional and after that I left crying. What he wrote on my review sheet is completely illegible and I can't write a formal complaint against him now. FUTURE ADVICE: If any of you get this guy, pretend you have a migraine (Or whatever else) and say you can't take the driving test. read more

It is what it is...the DMV. This one is not clean, especially the bathrooms. It smells like pee when you walk in. The line to the DMV is packed by 7:30am and some days its not even worth it to come up there. I only go to this DMV when I can't get to the one in Simi Valley. It is a world away and a world of difference service, cleanliness and area. The clerks can be decent, at least when i went it was quick. The lady was helpful so I was grateful. My last experience was decent but it did take almost 2 hours for everything since I did not have an appointment. I'm told an appointment here goes much quicker. Online, the available appointments for this location are usually too far out for what I need and Simi Valley seems to always be available. Prior to the office opening, they did walk thru the line to see what people needed and perhaps speed up the processes. I was impressed with that. read more

Okay so I never usually have a good time at the dmv especially when I don't have an appointment. BUT TODAY. I needed a replacement ID . I was there for 15 minutes ! That's it! Of course I did skip a step because I filled out my paperwork for a replacement online. So that makes it easier for you. Anyways, I walked to the entrance a man greeted me asked what I was there for, if I had an appointment & asked if I filled out the application online. I told him for a replacement Id i don't have an appointment and I did fill it out online yesterday. He said that form is good for a year. Then proceeded to giving me my number. Asked if I would like a text when my number is called I said yes. He gave me my paper & sent me to line 3. I walked in and boom my number was called I didn't need to check in w/ line 3 went straight to my window and the woman that handled everything for me was super sweet! Her name was Lily, and she kindly helped me out double checked everything and I was still in shock how fast this was going & we were talking about before having to bring books to keep you occupied which I did and never even cracked it open . She sent me to take my photo. And I was in and out within 15 minutes! This DMV has upgraded so much that it's sooo efficient! I love it. read more

I have been to other DMV's and they are so much better than this one! I have been here twice, the first time was a few years ago when I took my driver's test. I passed but the little asian lady that was my tester was horrible. I was so jealous of the people in the car in front of me with the smiling tester. This lady was yelling directions at me! She told me to get in the left turn lane after I passed it! and than yelled at me!! It was nuts! The next (and last) time I went to this DMV it was to change my last name on my license. With an appointment it still took me 1 1/2 hours and than 4 weeks later I got a letter in the mail telling me they were supposed to take my old license from me (I didn't know that) so I had to go back (and wait in line again!!!) to turn it in. What a waste of my time!!! This place is ridiculous. read more

Surprisingly, I had a pleasant experience at the Winnetka DMV this afternoon (I know, you usually don't see "pleasant" and "DMV" in the same sentence!). Arrived early for my 2pm appointment, waited briefly in line and was checked in at 1:39pm. Walked out the door with my driver's license renewed at 2pm. I understand that if you go to a DMV you wait.. everyone knows that and it's expected. However it shouldn't take 4 hours to get a registration card and stickers due to not receiving it in the mail. Also the gentleman that helped me was very sweet, however very old. He was so slow, and im sorry but to work there you should be fast considering the amount of people that need help. To finish with a cherry on top, the part that infuriated me the most was a middle aged man with no appointment and no disability asking me if I could cut the line ( I had been waiting there for 2 hours already) and I said no and he asked the lady behind me and she said " no the line is back there we have all been waiting here for 2 hours) and he acted dumb like he didn't understand and just simply stayed there. A really upset person notified the security that stands at the front door and he didn't do anything about it.... dont go here, terrible service, and you will not wait the average 2 hours, you will wait way longer. The lines were horrible! My wife scheduled an appointment for her to get her license, but we made it out 4 HOURS later. The people who came in after us without an appointment were able to make it out in half that time. A waste of time to come here.
