Our family has been using Winona Health for 30 years, including several surgeries and a handful of emergency room visits. We have almost always found the staff to be warm, helpful, and more than competent. We have had five children go through the Pediatrics Department from the time they were born until young adulthood, and the continuity of care and attention by the nurses and Dr. Lallaman have been more than excellent. This included several children with complicated medical issues that required the involvement of outside specialists. Turnaround time in the emergency department has always been excellent. Just to address some of the negative reviews... No institution is perfect, and I'm sure that Winona Health has had its share of issues over the years. However, rather than judging the institution on the basis of one bad experience, I would compare it to the health care you might get in the Twin Cities or another large urban area. Having grown up in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, I have had plenty of experience with large medical institutions and can tell you that you are much more likely to have a bad experience in one of these, especially if you're coming into the emergency department because they tend to be overworked and understaffed. We are very lucky to have a relatively large healthcare institution with a wide range of services in such a small town. read more

I would not recommend Winona for HRT. They prescribed hormones without requiring baseline blood work, which is not appropriate for individualized hormone therapy. The dosing felt excessive, and DHEA was included without any testing to determine whether I actually needed it. After getting labs done through my own physician, I was advised not to take the medications because they were not medically necessary for me. I canceled the order, but it was still shipped. The package arrived unopened, and when I tried to return it, they refused to accept it or issue a refund. Hormone replacement therapy should be based on proper labs and personalized care -- not a one-size-fits-all approach. This experience raised serious concerns for me about both their medical process and customer service. read more

My provider was not great. Do not trust that your preventive exams are actually preventive even though they are listed that way in the portal. I was charged the full cost of my preventive visit and labs because I had been diagnosed previously with medical conditions. I disputed my bill and Patient Services did not provide timely responses and needed to follow up myself several times. They sent my bill to collections prior to the issue being resolved. I feel like their billing practices were not clear and the lack of responsiveness with Patient Services was unacceptable. I will not be going back (unless an emergency since that's all we have). read more

Woman's health is a total abomination! I wouldn't even let my dog give birth or receive prenatal care from this team. Had me sitting and waiting over 40 minutes for my appointment just to cancel it! Zero bed side manner. You'll have limited options who you can see but most of your point of care with come from Dr Katie Duerr. She is insufferable and will make you feel less then. It will take them all day to reply to your MyChart message if they even reply at all. Save yourself the trouble and go to Gunderson. This place is nothing short of a joke. read more

Went to the Winona ER because my husbands blood sugar was over 500. The triage nurse obviously doesn't listen to people, and apparently isn't trained in using a glucose meter because bs was not checked. He puts us in a room and says the Dr. will be with you in a couple minutes. After 25 minutes we had enough of sitting there in the room with no nurse or Dr. coming in to check my husbands blood sugar and we left. We were told we're having a shift change, well so patients just have to sit and wait. Obviously the nursing staff doesn't know what can happen if blood sugar goes to high. We were fortunate to live 30 minutes away so we went back home to get another infusion kit for his pump. Also I find it unprofessional of the nursing staff male or female if they have long hair not to have it pulled back. I would never recommend Winona ER, go to Gunderson in LaCrosse or St. Mary's Mayo in Rochester read more

I went in for a simple broken ankle. They did surgery and I ended up getting osteomyelitis and sepsis/bacteremia infection almost killing me cause they never checked the ankle. Stay away and live. Drive to Mayo or Gunderson to live read more

I can't give one star because the nurses are great. Some of the doctors are extremely disrespectful and unprofessional though. I was having extremely bad mental health issues in January. Even though I was non-violent, they refused any help and trespassed me for a year. Administration is a joke. Don't worry though, they'll still send you a 5 thousand dollar bill and expect you to pay it. If you have experiences like this, gather evidence and don't be afraid to take legal action. read more

I have two college students in Winona and they've been to Winona Health for a number of issues including sinus infections, skiing injuries and more. In every instance I've been very pleased with the care they received. There are student nurses from the local colleges working side by side with the experienced, professional doctors and nurses. I feel very confident that my students are in good hands in Winona for any medical situations that may arise. And I'd like to give a tip of the hat to the billing department. One time I received a bill for one of my students where my provider indicated the clinician was not in network. I called Winona Health and had a delightful chat with the friendly billing coordinator who said she'd get that squared away with my insurance company and not to worry about sending payment until a new, corrected bill was received. True to her word, the very next business day she had the insurance company updated so the clinician was properly listed in network and resubmitted the claim for the correct settlement. She was right, I didn't have to worry! That river town friendliness was a delightful contrast to some of the battles I've had with large, impersonal Twin Cities metro area billing departments. read more

This is by far the worst hospital I have ever been to. Their miracle cure for everything is "take Tylenol". I have never met such worthless doctors before in my entire life. My parents have been to the ER multiple times, their backs completely out, in agonizing pain, and they won't do anything for them. They send them home and tell them to buy some cheap pain killer over the counter (Aka, Tylenol). I've read horrible reviews all over the internet, in fact, going to Winona Health is considered a death sentence and a joke in this town. I personally went there today (07/01/19) with agonizing stomach pains (presumably a ulcer) and they prescribed Zantac, an anti-inflammatory. They gave me some kind of drug cocktail in attempt to ease the pain and it did nothing but numb my throat which wasn't even at all the problem. They drew my blood and took my urine only to tell me, "Yup, seems like your pain is in your stomach alright, but all your tests are normal so you don't have anything to worry about. Take Tylenol and go home." Hours later, I'm still in horrible pain. NEVER go to this horrible facility if you can help it. Even if you are literally dying they will do nothing for you. Save yourself a step, and "go buy some Tylenol" on your own, don't pay a fortune to have some trainee from Winona fucking State to tell you that. read more

Worst hospital I have ever seen. It's as if they go out of their way to hire doctors and nurses who don't care. Most of the town agrees that if you need to go to the hospital, you are better off driving to Rochester for the Mayo Clinic. From what I hear from employees, even management is always ready to stab their own employees in the back. read more
