I returned a default purse and was referenced many times in our conversation to not be believed, Unfortunately, for me this was my experience. One of my absolute favorite boutiques ever!!!!! When you walk in, the wafting scent of incenses and fragrances lightly grace your nose. I hate to wash things I buy from here, because they smell so good. Winter Sun & Summer Moon has such an ecclectic mix of offerings, every time I shop here, I find something completely different to fall in love with. There's sort of something for everyone in this place, groovy Kurtas, neato jewelry, yummy candles, meditation cushions, shoes, bags, etc... it goes on and on. Last time I was in there, I found a great pillow for my bright orange sofa that totally works! There isn't one specific style, it's like a mix of all osrts of stuff and definitely not just for the skinny minny's. It's also a killer place to get jewelry, gifts and stuff like that. In response to the comment below about Winter/Sun Summer Moon's employee service...I was actually in the store when the commenter below bought her Tano bag. I am sure it was her as, since I shop at Winter Sun often, I know Tano bags are infrequently purchased at the store since they are so rare for this area and expensive. I remember this "artist" was very nice, she had an adorable dog with her that the employees were happy to see. They did not bat an eye that she had a dog in the store, only fawned over him and politely answered all of her questions about the Tano and where it was located in the store. When she told them why she was buying this bag, they congratulated her for her recent accomplishment and were very friendly, as always. If there was any rudeness directed towards her when she asked for tissue paper, I am positive that it was all in her head. I have been going to Winter Sun for years and know that the employee she dealt with is new and a very nice, courteous woman. I was not paying specific attention to them while she checked out, but I have NEVER in all my time in Rhinebeck heard a bad word about this store, its employees and owners. Lila and Steven Pague are some of the nicest, most involved people you will find in Rhinebeck. They contribute to our local community and are lovely people. If someone asked me where they could buy a gift for someone in town, I would point them right in the direction of their shop, Winter Sun/Summer Moon. Their merchandise is unique, colorful and often a sweet trinket from another country - the very last adjective I would use to describe their service is "snobby." I am shocked that anyone would think of giving this store ONE star and especially shocked that I witnessed this commenter's perfectly fine encounter there. Please do not let this one (falsely) rude encounter sway you from checking out this gem in Rhinebeck. read more

I went shopping here for my sister-in-law's 70th birthday. I bought six different thing and she was wild about all of them. I love this place. I really appreciate Winter Sun & Summer Moon's existence in town. They offer a very eclectic mix of products from foreign countries as well as American designers who use natural fibers with a great sense of style and color. The non-pushy staff is knowledgeable and helpful. When looking for a gift, I can count on them to offer a wide range of products: home goods, bath and beauty, clothes , jewelry, world music, etc. My only complaint: I wish they'd open their doors for business a little earlier in the day. Yesterday I went into Winter Sun/Summer Moon to get a Tano, I have wanted one for a looooooong time. As a working artist any monies available to me are usually spent on supplies. A friend offered to gift me with the coveted bag and after I accomplished a few hurdles I had accomplished as a reward to fuel me forward. I accepted his offer (he has art coming) While waiting for my car to have the oil changed i walked to Winter Sun/Summer Moon.... the perfect bag was found. I was so excited. ... the beautiful sales-girl with the sexy accent was condescending and rude. Asked if I wanted a bag for it and threw it in... there were layers of colorful tissue behind, I asked for some to line the shopping bag and lay over my treasure. She picked up a crumpled piece from below and the paper that had come from the bag and threw them on top. When one spends that much it should feel elegant and fun... it wasnt. I am tempted to bring it back to not have the memory of that and the other condescending and arrogant blobs of snobbiness that was my experience. Tho I looked forward to shopping there for a long time, I will NEVER repeat the experience. read more

This is a truly wonderful store. The only downside is that I always want to buy EVERYTHING in it. Some of my prettiest tops and skirts have come from this delicious store. The shop is well decorated, friendly and caters to your every sense including smell. I find this store very hard to leave without finding something to buy. It is quite simply magical! Most of my "special" wardrobe pieces have come from this shop, I enjoy all the compliments and envious looks I get while wearing them. Anytime I'm feeling down or want to feel "pretty", I make a trip to Winter Sun for a special treat. I love asymmetrical clothing and unusual cuts which this store stocks. They have a fun selection of scarves, affordable jewelry, Eyebobs and smart selection of handbags. Lila and her staff have always been friendly and helpful in finding just the right size or style options I overlook. I should add that there have been times I have stopped in to browse despite not having the extra funds to splurge with but have been treated very warmly by Lila and her staff whether I leave with a purchase or not! I live in Rhinebeck and consider this to be my "go to" store for almost every occasion. I love Flax clothing, tops that go with it all, Fly London shoes, and the jewelry as well. I don't think I have ever gone into this store and not bought something wonderful for myself or for friends and family. The employees are always there if I need them and oh so pleasant. While my friend waited in line to purchase candles for her yoga studio, the other people in our party continued shopping throughout the store. As we enjoyed smelling the different candles and incenses, we were mocked by another customer while the cashier completely joined in on the ridicule. This behavior is unbelievable! Why would you make fun of people enjoying and purchasing your products? The manager/owner needs to teach their employees how to behave. Lots of stuff but not too much -- all of high quality and reasonable price. The semi-bohemian, quasi-hippie, kinda-new-age, incense and jewelry and Walt Whitman, local artists greeting cards, knitted scarves, progressive music on the tiny speakers, last minute b-day for your girlfriend sort of store that all towns like Rhinebeck have. But above average. There're well chosen and reasonably priced jewelry. sage sticks, and Puto Mayo CDs (of course). The shoppers move really slowly and the staff is really nice. This is one of the coolest places in Rhinebeck! They have great jewelry and a wonderful selection of ethical clothing. I was stoked when I saw they carried some Farmesthetics beauty care products as well! Their staff is friendly and talking with them isn't like talking to a removed, robotic employee, but like talking to a person that will take a bit of time to get to know you and what you're into! An amusing store and it would be great for browsing and shopping if the overpowering smell of incense didn't knock you over as soon as you enter. Why do the owners feel that this is necessary? Lately is has become even stronger, making it extremely difficult to spend any time in the shop. Also, be aware that any articles of clothing which you purchase will need to be aired for at least 4 days to remove the smell of Winter Sun and Summer Moon. read more
