City Arts Centre - Pottery class in progress at the City Arts Center

The catalogue headers give a good idea of the breadth available: cooking and baking, crafts and handiwork, dance, mind and body, music, photography, pottery and sculpture, silversmithing, soaps and lotions, theatre, visual art, and writing. The hunnybunny has done some silversmithing, pottery (pix added to this review), and painting, and we've done a cooking class together. There's a lot you can use to distract yourself from a particularly heavy snowstorm :-) The classes have been well planned and leave you with a nice artifact to commemorate your new (or growing) skill. The teachers personalities vary, so not all students will click with all teachers, but the centre seems pretty responsive in allowing switching between classes.

For a Sunday morning, they had a room with art class, children's programming on computers, and then the Antique room where the cooking class was. The class had about 9 students and there were tables and chairs set up. When it was time to cook, the kitchen got a bit crowded with 2 stoves and people standing around the middle counter space. We had to maneuver around others to find cooking utensils and bowls. But all the cupboards and drawers are labelled so it wasn't too difficult to find what you're looking for. The knives were sharp and they have lots of cutting boards. There are also lots of pans and some deep ones to hold lots of food. We cooked, ate, and then cleaned up. They even had containers for those that wanted to take some leftovers home. The venue is convenient with parking and also accessible by walking or transit. It's an older building as the washrooms are dated but everything was clean and in working order. I would come back and take a class here again.

Avoid, avoid, avoid…read more The five-star reviews on Google for this place were likely paid-advertisements. I can't imagine anyone having that sort of experience based on the exceptionally poor communication, ridiculous policies, and ongoing incompetence in running a business, not to mention completely missing the mark as far as any sort of "schooling". 1. we signed up for a two-session "try-out" -- clearly committed to only that much. For the second session, our child was exhibiting signs of covid, so given their caution (masks were still required in early 2023), we opted to reschedule. Not only was there a make-up fee, it took NEARLY THREE MONTHS to schedule the make-up session. In retrospect, we should have just sent him to that session and then not had to deal with this ridiculousness. 2. Penny (the owner) claimed to have messaged us multiple times in response to voicemails we had left. We verified the number she was messaging -- it was our LANDLINE. No wonder she wasn't getting a response... a normal person would have made a phone call! 3. the overall outcome is cookie-cutter and hardly unique. It certainly is not instructional in value, nor is there any creative outlet. 4. their blatant disregard of City of Edmonton signage bylaws is shady at best, and pollution of our neighbourhoods at worst. 5. their prices are out of control. The $20 for "custom framing" looks to be the same frame as I bought at Ikea for $5. I can not say this strongly enough: AVOID THIS BUSINESS.

This is a creative & one of the more affordable kid friendly party places. It's a shame a lot of…read moretheir locations have closed, but this one's still here & much has improved since my last visit. It's a really cozy space, in a small stripmall in the Ellerslie area, but that means parking is not a problem here. A bonus is that's its next door neighbour is a pizza place so it's pretty easy to cater your party at this studio. A new addition that I've seen more recently is their wall of merchandise to expand your creative capabilities at home... everything from sketching supplies to polymer modelling kits, and even resin supplies for smooth & durable art finishes. They also have lovely art displays created in house for your wandering eyes. I would suggest booking early for kids parties as those weekend spots fill up quickly. On the 2 occasions I've gone, the children did splatter painting in their special paint splash room; and making mini unicorns with modelling polymer at the other party. Event space runs for 2 hours which includes time to consume the food you bring & open presents. Plus they have smocks for kids who aren't quite appropriately dressed for getting messy. The art that's made is also the keepsake/ giveaway for that party... obviously there'll be a delay for painting projects to allow drying, but the polymer ones can be taken home same day. There is a washroom at the back of the facility, which has child friendly stools, but I've noticed the sink drains really slowly there. The nice thing is that they have a bucket of soapy water near the art station you are at, so kids can wash hands before eating. They do have some adult classes as well which I think would be fun, but have yet to do. Staff have been patient in my experience with this venue & I'd recommend this place for family friendly arts & crafts activities.

Poor Service The Sherwood Park outlet has the worst service…read moreof any Sephora I've been to. A store full of staff more interested in talking to each other than the customers wandering the aisles. I felt almost unwelcome and just wanted to leave as quickly as I could. At the cash register, there was zero eye contact, no request if I wanted to use points or even a bag for what I was buying. They did ask me if anyone had helped me, to which I couldn't have said "nope" faster! Sorry, but customer service has skipped this place over. I'd rather shop where someone makes themself available to answer my questions or helps me find what I'm looking for.

I called online customer service & made them aware of it & asked to please have my actual item sent out. I ordered same day because I needed it TODAY, but because it was after the 4pm cut off (it was delivered after 4pm), she could not do anything about it. She told me to call & advise the store so they knew it happened, which I did when I hung up with her. I called the store directly & the employee that picked up the phone said she would go get her manager. She came back & said she was going to give me the number to call online orders who take care of this, which I'm assuming her manager told her to do. I said I just spoke to online & now I was calling them directly to inform them what happened so they were aware of it & could maybe speak to the employees involved to be more careful when fulfilling these orders. She said ok I'll go get my manager. She came back again only to tell me that I could bring the wrong items back & they'd give me my ordered item if it was in stock. Honestly, I felt like I didn't matter & this manager just wanted to get rid of me because how hard would it be to come on the phone & just note this info down & at least offer an apology for the inconvenience? She didn't care that this happened in her store?! The whole point of ordering same day delivery was because I've had surgery & can not get around & it was a item I desperately needed for issues I was having after my surgery. Now I'm being told by an employee because the manager won't take a minute to come on the phone to bring the wrong items back & get what I ordered. This store BTW is 40 minutes away from me. Extremely poor customer service & this manager should not be a manager if they're unwilling to speak to customers when things go wrong. In no way do I blame the employee that was on the phone as she was only running back & forth relaying what her manager was saying when if should have been the manager herself on the phone with me. Only issue I had with the girl on the phone was that even she didn't offer an apology. Do better Sephora Sherwood Park!!!
