The amazing diversity of programming and depth of this station can catch almost anyone's ear. What is refreshing, is all the people playing the music are volunteers, who do not have to follow a corporate format. You will not hear a loop of the same songs day after day. Each 1-4 hour show has their own genre theme, but beyond that can play anything within their theme. I am always surprised by something new every time I listen. The one issue that is troubling is that their federal funds have been cut by 200k recently. Since it is a non-profit station, they rely heavily on listeners to help support the station, and especially during their funds drive this month. I really hope it can continue over the years. Check their website for programming and take a listen. It's one of those rare gems on the airways.

I'd heard of the company through online surveys and figured I would test it out for fun. I cancelled the service after only using it once, as the quality was a lot worse than Prime Music, which was free for me. Only to have them charge my card and not recognize the fact I had cancelled my account. Going to cancel it (yet again) I sent a request over for a refund. Three emails requesting information back and forth and I was denied the refund. Here's a few reasons why TIDAL is now the worst experience I've had. * A small and irritating screen pops up and takes up more than a quarter of the page at any one point in time when trying to go through their FAQ. * If you send a request (like I did) should you click on their FAQ section and press the wrong button, your request is then cancelled automatically. * Finally, my third and forth requests for refund were ticketed in their system and then subsequently closed with no response whatsoever. It emails me when you do that, I can see it TIDAL. As of April 2020, the TIDAL website seems to be designed to be specificly hard to use and navigate. There's no chat feature, and any subscription service (Hulu, CBS, Amazon) will usually refund a mistaken charge - but not TIDAL. I marked it as fraud, disputed it on my card and finally received a refund from my bank. Never again TIDAL. Never again.

Food is obviously a favorite topic -- and considering the ancient culture and sophisticated cuisine in issue -- there is much to cover in the NY/NJ corridor. Twice monthly they showcase some of the finest examples of Chinese regional cuisine on both sides of the Hudson -- and you WILL want to visit these joints after you watch the show. The bilingual reviews offer nuggets of "behind the scenes" looks at how restaurant meals are prepared -- and suggestions for obscure menu options not well known to Westerners. I find that there is something primal about such raw authenticity. Watch out Anthony Bourdain! These millennial broadcasters may not have as much attitude as you do -- but they are every bit as genuine and knowledgeable! Until I was interviewed (shameless plug) for a spot on Petite Soo Chow in Cliffside Pk recently (see: http://en.sinovision.net/asian-kitchen-petite-soo-chow/) I knew nothing about Sinovision. Not to take anything away from Yelp -- which often steers me right -- but watching what amounts to a master class on Chinese cookery gives me a much better feel for the bonafides of a restaurant. Hint hint Yelp. Legitimacy in Chinese food and culture is a beautiful thing when you can find it -- and Sinovision will help get you there.
