Ok, I think I finally found that one Chinese Buffet in Europe that's worth writing about. Wok Dao in Barcelona is no joke. To be upfront, this is one of the first Chinese Buffets I've eaten at in Spain. I've been to a few dozen in Germany and 1x in Forbach France and they all fell below expectations. I grew up in California where good Chinese food can be found with ease. Here in Europe it's a different story. At least in Germany. It's better then 20 years ago but still light years from what you can find in LA, San Fran, and New York City. But Wok Dao is a big step in the right direction. Important detail: requests for tap water are denied here Just to preface this, I didn't actually eat here. Here's why: I went here right as they opened at 8 pm and was seated. I read a bunch of reviews that said the restaurant was crowded. I think it's because when we were seated we had to wait 40 min or more to actually get to the food. Everyone else was waiting as well. I think they just try to crowd the restaurant on purpose. This is why we left. But I also wanted to leave as soon as when we got our drinks order taken since we were denied tap water (which is illegal as of April so that's sussy). Wok Dao. Walk on the right path. I'm a huge fan of the name of this restaurant. It's second to Wok on Fire for my favorite. It's also a buffet? I can see this as an easy love at first bite experience. Once upon a time ago, truly great Asian buffets were plentiful. Then, reality set in. It's very hard to be profitable serving AYCE crab legs, oysters, and other expensive foods. This is slightly less of a Sisyphean task in a city by the sea, but it's still not easy. How does Wok Dao stay afloat? Drinks. Holy crap are drinks here expensive. True to most other places in Barcelona, all drinks cost money, including water. Keep that in mind if you consume too much fried or salty food. The buffet itself is plentiful and boasts an impressive variety of food. Outside of the usual expected stuff, you can find lobster. Yes, lobster. As you can imagine, the lobster gets devoured quickly. Keep an eye out carefully for when they refill the lobster if you want some. The galbi was another highlight of the buffet. I don't understand why the ratings are so low here. It's a buffet. And for a buffet, the food was really pretty good. They have a huge selection of seafood here. In addition to the precooked food, they also have a grill area where you choose want you want cooked. The bar with the raw seafood was pretty impressive. They had about 5 different species of shrimp and probably as many different types of clams. They even had razor clams. The night we went, they even had lobster on the buffet. Obviously the lobster goes fast so if that's the reason you're going, I'd ask to sit next to the buffet. Service is decent here but don't be afraid to flag down a waitress if you need a refill. Seen many of those asian buffet places around the world, but seldom have i seen this amount of choice in dishes to try. Overall atmosphere seems ok when you enter but soon becomes one of a school cafeteria with lines of tables. Staff could be a bit frienlier but service was not pushing for extra drinks after the first. No photos allowed, so no party pics. Quality of food is decent but as all buffets not top quality meats. But with a price of 16 euro you get what you pay for. Ready dishes, cooked on the plancha your chosen raw ingredients and sushi for the mains and a choise of desserts and icecream. Would i go again? Went in after their opening time and they were still setting up the buffet/food. People were sitting down drinking their beverages...waiting for them to finish. The restaurant filled up very quickly so I suggest going early. There was no-one in the front so we had to walk into the restaurant and look for a waiter. Some of the staff had a not so pleasant attitude and were sort of snappy. The food was okay. Not the greatest food I've had but decent price-wise. When I went, it seemed most of the people came for the seafood-people were fighting over some of the seafood. They do not clean your plate-you have to do that yourself. If this was an ice cream place I would give it a 6/10. That's the only reason I gave the extra star. This place is horrific and all the food is repulsive. The buffet is stacked high with every type of cuisine you could imagine, which was intriguing, until I realized that they failed equally as strong with each dish. Everything was ice cold, not even "luke warm" like one would expect with a buffet. I cannot belive this costs €20, given that only a single scoop of ice cream remained in my stomach after I got unbearably sick in the restaurant. I'm not certain whether it was from the leather-textured "chicken" or spoiled shellfish. woahhh! this place is almost as good as the seafood buffets back in california. don't be deterred by the chinese grill bar exterior; we never would have eaten here if our host hadn't recommended it. it seems like mainly only locals eat here, and for good reason. you can eat all the fresh seafood you can at dinner for 11,95 euro. the selection is huge, ranging from salads to fried stuff to a whole leg of ham you can slice from to chinese-style seafood and even raw stuff that you can take to the guys at the grill for cooking. the only downside was that the teppanyaki was REALLY heavy on the oil and some of the pieces were overcooked. i'm sure you could talk to them about it if you speak chinese or catalan. tips: eat slowly. don't fill up on rice or noodles. you can get that any time. stay away from sushi at buffets, if you didn't know already.. don't drink too much. Now to the staff: as I went in the restaurant, I had some problems with communication because none of them spoke English but after some time a lady came and she was able to speak a little English. They were nice and friendly. So the buffet starts at 12:00 but I would rather suggest to go there at 12:30 as it will take time till they finish stacking everything up. After seeing all the food payed out you really will have a hard time trying to find out what to pick. I would suggest you eat slow and enjoy the food and don't drink a liter of water that you won't fit anything anymore. I would stay away from the sushi because it isn't fresh but if you are like me and you still want to try it, go ahead but it doesn't taste any special. Now to the dishes, the food is a lot but Tastenwiederholung it doesn't blow my mind. I love Asian foods but Wok dao doesn't impress me with the taste. So another tip is not to go alone because it isn't a fantastic place to enjoy the food. Now to the question would I go there again? As other have stated, this place is awesome. The seafood selection is huge, with fresh (fresh!) scrimps, salmon, squid, mussels, etc. The buffet bar is large and should cater to all eaters. There is also a grill bar where you select your fresh meats (we didn't try this), fresh seafood, veggies and they grill it for you. SWEEEET!!
