I have lived here for about 3 years. This place is tucked back just off of Burnet. Great location and close to everything I need. Good nearby restaurants, shopping and grocery stores. The management team is fantastic and very helpful. It was really easy to do a lease transfer and move into an apartment that better suited my needs. Rent prices are reasonable for Austin and it is a very quiet location, which I love. It is gated and I feel safe walking around here, even at night. The maintenance team is super fantastic. Nick and Rudy are very quick and thorough with completing the work orders. They even came up with a really creative solution to fix the refrigerator shelves that I was having issues with. Everything kept falling out of the door and spilling. They were able to provide new shelves and keep them in place! I really appreciate everyone that works here because they care about the residents and really go above and beyond! read more

The rent is at a reasonable price range for the area. Management has been at the top of their game in responding to problems that occur. Water is an issue, that there are problems. Yet always resolved in a timely matter. Neighbors for the most part are respectful. I might add that I've lived in these units for about 10 years. That should say enough. read more

I have been living here for 6 months now and the entire time I have lived here the water doesn't really work. It comes on but it will be either ice cold or so hot it WILL burn you and it alternates between them rapidly. On top of that today the Office manager did not like my question and instead of trying to work with me or give me an alternative route to take she proceeded to scream in my face. I found Pat to be extremely unprofessional and rude. She was clearly taking enjoyment out of the act and appeared to revel in it. This apartment complex has violated the lease agreement with me and instead of acknowledging their mistakes they instead have decided to blame the resident. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB in response. I hope the managing company takes swift action in this matter. Where to start, Building 4 had a roach problem that the office knows about but does nothing to correct the issue they will send a exterminator just to whoever is complaining instead of spraying the whole building. Hot water was always out or water was off. Whenever you move out it doesn't matter how you leave the apartment they're going to charge you for everything. I recently applied for an apartment and paid $365 for fees and deposit. I was not approved and expected for the money I paid minus the administrative fee to be refunded. I was informed that the money would be held for 30 days, which I don't understand what establishment would hold a patrons money that were not approved or for that matter even completely deposit their money and a apartment complex. I do not understand why they feel the need to hold funds for this amount of time. I feel this is poor business practice. This creates a hardship when the money is not refunded in a timely manner as I am trying to find a new location to live. I do not recommend this complex due to their business practices. read more

**edit - they keep raising rent by at least $60/month and forced everyone to get renter's insurance, which means an increase of $80/month, total. May not sound like much, but that's approximately $900/year I'm not putting away in savings, when I'm barely scraping by as it is! And on top of that, the 10 month lease renewal was cheaper than the 12 month, which I don't understand. I'd prefer to stay here for as long as possible, but they're just going to increase the rent again when the 10 months is up, so either way I'm screwed. I can try to get a roommate but the timing of moving in the same complex and finding a roommate is incredibly tricky; they didn't have any 2 br available last time before my rent was up - the 2 br is like, $80 more/mo than the 1 br, which is crazy. Why do yall hate single people? I've been here for almost 3 years now, and out of the 4 prior shit-hole North Austin complexes I've resided in, this place is the best of the worst. Maintenance is super fast, and nice; he even asked if I needed anything else fixed when he came in to fix my garbage disposal. The breezeway lamps outside each door frequently burn out in my unit hallway, and each time I put in a request to replace them they are fixed usually within the same day. Paying rent online with no transaction fee is also a huge bonus. Oh and they recently got rid of Jaimie, which is awesome. I avoided the leasing office b/c she was so curt and condescending. Dora is pretty cool, I haven't had any issues with her. I just really wish they'd give loyal tenants a break come lease renewing time. Only downsides are: 1. My unit is located across from Slick Willies, and they empty their trash bins around 3-5am, sometimes even twice in one night (it's gotten so bad you can actually hear them picking up an empty metal trash receptacle, and it sounds like they're beating it with a baseball bat, but nothing coming out?). The sound of the beer bottle waterfall was deafening, and terrifying to wake up to. I had to get a fan to run during the night just to muffle the noise. 2. The speed bumps are plentiful, and vertical as shit. (also the parking lot floods at the slightest bit of rainfall). 3. It's a gated community, which as we all know by now is only there to jack up the rent, and make it harder for you to get in/out, while still the same amount of ease for potential crimes... The gate is usually broken, or open. 4. The washers and dryers are ALWAYS broken. It's quite maddening. There is one front loading washing machine, and the 2nd time I used it it locked my clothes inside for over an hour. Price-wise - unfortunately this is used to be one of the cheaper complexes is north Austin, but is now on par with the rest. :/ Fuck Austin, seriously. Time to move. I've lived here my whole life, and I have no idea who can afford living here now (fuck all y'all Californians, btw). As far as the rest of it goes, I've never had a bug problem (save for flies and ants this past week due to the summer heat, but I took care of it), and the interior of my place is totally fine. Although a few times a year there's some kind of black residue that seeps out of my bathroom, kitchen, and tub faucet. The front office called and told me it was toothpaste remnants, and to not put in a maintenance request about it since I could clean it myself... okay. Oh, last good thing - they also don't charge a monthly bullshit pet fee per month, so that's nice. My cat lost her job so she cant afford to pay me monthly rent. I really appreciate not having the extra charge tacked on. But I've been happy here, and I could see myself staying for a long time if I could afford it after the next rent raise :/ read more

I have to admit, I am an apartment locator, and I know allot of properties around the Austin area. Dora and Jamie, the management team, are very professional, friendly, and diligent with "taking care of business". The grounds always look amazing and I have never shown an empty unit that doesn't look move in ready. I have yet to see a unit with bad carpet, which believe you me, I have seen some places that the make ready is basically how someone left it. Woodchase has allot of long term residents and is a very tranquil place, located on major buslines and central to almost everything. Love this place! and I would live here if I didn't own a home in Round Rock ;-) read more

I lived at Woodchase for several years and recommend it. Woodchase is in a quiet north-central neighborhood near the intersection of 183 and Mopac. It's a quick drive to 360, 35, downtown and The Arboretum. The adjacent neighborhood, North Shoal Creek, is middle class and very safe. It is a nice neighborhood in which to walk and there is a playground with a track at the elementary school. When the neighborhood was established in the 60's, it was probably a suburban neighborhood on the edge of town. Therefore, there aren't any businesses in the neighborhood, only surrounding it. But, the commercial area around the neighborhood has many amenities. West Anderson, around the corner, is full of great restaurants and shops like Hopdoddy, Hanabi, Terra Toys, Fresh Plus, Dos Batos, Cover 3, Sunrise Minimart, and the Alamo Drafthouse Village. Slightly farther south you'll find highly rated businesses on Burnet Road. One awesome thing located right in the neighborhood is North Village Branch of the public library - it's a quick walk from the apartments. The complex is located on the 3 bus line, whose route includes The Arboretum/Great Hills area, Pickle Research Campus, all of Burnet south of 183, Medical Parkway (doctors! The Draughthouse!), The University of Texas main campus, Downtown, and South Lamar. The bus arrives about every half hour and is pretty slow. It's possible to live here and rely on public transportation, but it's inconvenient and you'll probably be run over attempting to jaywalk (crosswalks are far between on busy Burnet Road). The Rapid Bus 803 route is coming, so that should be an improvement. Our apartment interior seemed shoddy and slapped together - lopsided light switch covers, uneven floors, and sloppy paint jobs. There's nothing trendy or interesting about beige walls and carpet. The high ceiling in the living room was a nice touch. Some units have fireplaces and washer/dryer hook-ups, which I'm sure was great for those residents. I lived in two units here - a small one and a large one. The first had a very horrible roach problem when I moved in. It took awhile, but the problem was eradicated with regular visits by the exterminator. The grounds are well maintained, though spotty with dog poop. The pool is okay - not disgusting but usually in need of a cleaning. The parking lot has plenty of spaces. The biggest con about the physical complex was the "emergency" pipe work that occasionally kept the water off all day. Usually, they would send out a notice the day before and only keep the water off from 8am to 5pm. However, a couple of times the water didn't come back on until 9 or 11pm. That was so frustrating. I rarely had complaints about loud neighbors. Even if someone was having a party or yelling in the breezeway, you couldn't hear them from the bedroom (which is the most important thing). Typically, everyone was polite and kept to themselves. The residents are a mix of older students, young families, singles, young couples, and the elderly. I noticed rowdy people rarely lasted more than a couple months, while most people seemed to live there for years. The staff are pretty good. Jamie in the office is professional and helpful. I rarely dealt with the manager, Dora. The maintenance guy (I feel guilty for not remembering his name) is wonderful. It seems he has to do most stuff by himself, but he gets everything done in a timely matter and is a super friendly, upbeat guy. I don't recommend leaving a work order with the after-hours answering service, unless it's an emergency (like your fridge stops running or your toilet is overflowing) since they seem bad at relaying non-urgent messages to the office. Moving out was painless. We got a large chunk of our security deposit back, which I didn't expect. Seems the rent has gone up a few hundred dollars since I moved out in early 2014. I would recommend Woodchase for most people looking for an affordable, safe, modest place to live in almost-central Austin. read more

We've lived in these apartments for two years now, and are not renewing solely because we're moving to a house. However, Woodchase has been nothing but good to us. For reference, we live in a 3rd story, 2Br/2Ba unit with washer/dryer connections which we used to hook up our own. The community is well kept, though many don't pick up after their dogs (not the apartment's fault, though) and there is some serious flooding when it rains, but thats mostly an inconvenience if you're parked in ankle deep water. However, everyone who lives around us has been very friendly and I have always felt comfortable walking around with my dogs. We've never had a noise issue with anyone during unreasonable hours, and parking is VERY easy and convenient for guests. We've had lots of luck with our unit - its very spacious with minimal problems, and maintenance has always been quick to respond to our calls (1-2 days, day of if its urgent). For the price, I think you're getting a great deal here. The biggest issue we've had is some minor pest problems. Roaches (tiny ones) in our kitchen have been a problem, but they have always sent out pest control when it gets bad. Keeps them at bay for a month or two but they always return. On the other hand, we once had a rat (never saw it, just the damage it caused) and they immediately came out, trapped it, and solved the issue. Overall, management is friendly and good about answering the phones (they're a big understaffed, but nothing outrageous). However, sometimes they leave in the middle of the day for up to an hour with no one to man the office, which can be annoying if you're trying to pick up a package or something. Great location, clean apartments, good price. We've enjoyed our two years here and would stay if we didn't need the space of a house. read more

Super nice people and they make you want to sign for two leases. j/k, cuz then you're stupid. I posted a review three days ago and I meant every word. I had the connections on my dryer fixed and the contractor they sent out broke my dryer vent tube. Then he tries to be sneaky and I caught him trying to duck tape it. So I called the office today and Jaime the Asst.Manager had the audacity to confront me on my post. I asked for the Manager Dora and Jaime would not let me speak to her. She continued to confront me as to why I named her in this review. Jaime keept saying "I have been nothing but nice to you." I had to ask her THREE TIMES TO SPEAK TO DORA THE OFFICE MANAGER. I informed Jaime, I posted my personal opinion on my experience and to LET ME SPEAK TO DORA! For as man times as I'd driven down Burnet Rd, I never noticed there were apartments next to that Gordon Automotive sign with the changing quotes. I'm on my second year here and i'm pretty happy. I signed an 18 month lease without even thinkin about it. The apartments themselves are a bit older, but the staff is really amazing and efficient. I haven't had to call maintenance very often but when I did, of course it was on a weekend late at night. The answering service was nice, and sent someone out very quickly which was very convenient. I am extremely happy with the location, as I have a child (who isn't a noisy one i swear!) and we are very close to the only blue ribbon school this side of Mopac- Pillow Elementary which is a very highly rated for TAKS scores as well. Aside from that, Babyblues and Common interest are nice and there are several nearby restaurants north or south of this block. The apartments themselves are tucked away behind the Spectrum shopping center which I also love because they seem like they would be less of a target in any case although i'm not sure if this is a factually accurate statement. The one bad that I do have to comment on also is the laundry facilities. I absolutely LOATHE doing my laundry here. IF i choose to do my laundry here, most of the time the machines are occupied or out of order (i.e. dryers with no heat etc.) and doing laundry on a hot TX day.... forget it. It sux! Some apartments do come with washer/dryers in them but those are the larger units so i guess that would be a better choice if you can afford it. Overall, in the year and almost half that i've lived here, I've seen a few parties, but its mostly quiet and I rarely see or hear my neighbors. The free Wi-Fi is pretty awesome too. It'd be nice to have free cable, but all the same, Woodchase is a pretty great place to live. read more

I have lived here for almost 2 years and can say that the maintenance team here is amazing. The online maintenance request tool is so convenient and this team responds same day with resolution. They wont stop until the job is done. I had an issue with my door knob on Christmas Eve day and the on call team member showed up within the hour so that I could secure my apartment before travelling. He was at church with his family and answered my call immediately. This is very important due to these being older apartments. The leasing office personnel has always been attentive, polite and courteous to my needs and requests. I enjoy most of my neighbors and really feel at home in this complex. The location is amazing! Although older this complex has a lot of character. Only complaint per say would be that the appliances in the kitchen could be updated. read more

I lived here for two years, and let me say that maintenance is amazing. With that being said, let's talk about Dora and Alex in the office. Aside from being just rather rude on a regular basis, let me give you an idea of what to expect from this office. The gates don't work, on multiple occasions you will either get locked in or out of the complex, if the gates you pay for even close at all. Alex only gives you your packages when she's not busy otherwise she will tell you you don't have anything to pick up, even if you're staring at a huge purple box you know is yours. Expect your water to be turned off at least one day a month, and hardly ever on the day the email told you. Never expect the washer and dryer units to work. They threatened to tow my car once because I put a for sale sign on it, it was a 2000 Land Rover running and in good condition, I was told it was an eye sore. Yet the Van that doesn't run that Dora owns and has had parked on Woodchase property for at least 2.5 years now, isn't an eye sore? Expect a pain in the ass if you try and pay your rent at separate times, (for example we were leaving town and tried to pay it a week early) Alex wouldn't take it. I've known multiple tenants over the years and we all come to the same conclusion, great location, the crappiest management I've ever seen. Save yourself the headache, and go elsewhere. read more

I've lived there for over 6 years, so that should say something. What it mostly says is "I don't like to move if I don't have to". As James pointed out, the office staff are friendly. They always try to help me out with whatever problem may arise. I go by the office for fresh-baked Otis Spunkmeyer cookies whenever I need a midday dessert. Relatively quiet complex in a great location. Lots of my neighbors have also lived there for over 5 years, so they show proper respect. Downside: the pool is lame. It's small and shallow. And some people think their noisy kids are compatible with my relaxation time. But it is well landscaped at least, which makes a nice shortcut to the mailbox. Oh yeah, the laundry facilities suck too. Not enough machines and no A/C! WTF? It gets hot n sweaty in there. I've had my rent raised twice, but I guess that's Austin. The leasing agents do their best market research to keep the prices competitive for the area. They aren't brand new, (built in the late 80's) and they aren't perfect, but I call it home. read more

They are increasing the monthly rent with no improvements. Again, any question to Jamie again is a problem and rude, I wonder how she is still working there. I'd echo the other reviews on here-- friendly management (which seems to be rare here in Austin), terrible laundry facilities and a committed (if overworked) maintenance staff. In fact, the maintenance boss once called me from his home when I left a simple toilet-related request with the after-hours answering service. There's a level of balance here. Are they great apartments? No. They were poorly put together using cheap materials twenty or thirty years ago. Cabinets will be poorly assembled, the linoleum could be uneven, and your cable or phone lines might need to be redropped. But, shit, for the most part that's fine. The rent is pretty fantastic for the area and the apartments are clean (no issues with bugs that I'm aware of). Also, they do flexible term leases and insane move-in specials. The first month free? $100 deposit? Crazy good deal. I moved in originally to a one bedroom unit, then after my seven month lease ended I went to a two bedroom unit. They were able to give me that deal again, meaning that in less than a year's time I had two free months of rent. read more

Three years ago this place was nice but very modest. You can hear though the walls due to them being old appliances. They are not energy efficient cold in winter, hot in summer. They recently started to increase the rent and not by the usual $10 or $20 but by $150 for two bedrooms and $100 for one bedrooms. Whenever you request service it gets lost in the girls draw for a week until you call back for service. Cars are getting broken into and what are they stealing? Gas. So get a locking gas cap. The manager has a very crappy attitude like she is doing you a favor letting you live there. As soon as my lease is up I'm out... They do seem to have a high turnover rate for residence. I wish the management would be changed, that would be the best improvement.. read more

Linda F.'s review sort of says it all where the neighborhood, amenities, and other conveniences (i.e. proximity to Interstates and bus lines) are concerned. An update might include the recently added #803 Express bus which also now runs along Burnet Rd. and makes travel to The Domain or Westgate Mall on either end of the line even faster. But the reason I am writing this review is to comment on the staff of the complex. As a "traveler," I have lived in many states and have probably had over 30 "homes" before moving here almost 4 years ago...most of these being apartment complexes not unlike Woodchase, The difference here is clearly the staff. Maintenance provided for within the unit is impeccable. When I've had rather serious issues with my HVAC unit or plumbing, these were attended to almost immediately. And the grounds are extremely well maintained, no mean feat considering some of the trash I've seen residents leave in the pool area, which is adjacent to my unit. The laundry rooms have recently been updated with all new washers and dryers, as well as constant improvements to the property since my move-in (security gates, a new perimeter fence, and a dog park to name a few). And the in-office management has been nothing but cooperative and helpful, and whereas I have read some less-than-favorable reviews, I am left to wonder as to what exactly might have caused any unfavorable interaction with either Dora or Jamie. I've met some of my neighbors and there seem to be a number of so-called adults living on the property who are still basically being supported by their parents or trust-funds or whatever, and these aren't exactly people I would put much trust in. So keeping in mind that you pretty much get back whatever you give in this world, I'd question the trustworthiness of the people writing those negative reviews before questioning the integrity of 2 very professional and competent adults who manage this complex as well as any I've ever encountered. I can't recommend this complex enough, but seriously...only if you are all "grown-up" and can get along with your neighbors and the superlative staff. read more

KEY NOTE: I'll keep this part quick... but if you OWN this property, for the love of God fire Dora (condescending, surly, and rude at every opportunity) and Alex (the new office woman who is not *quite* as apathetic and rude as her predecessor Jamie)... and bring in professionals. I would love to recommend Woodchase but I just couldn't refer anyone I liked to the care of those harpies. No kidding... both of them made move-out a nightmare, ignoring our previous in-person-conversations about scheduling and trying to intimidate me into being gone on their schedule (instead of the one I'd already told them would occur). Even more insane, Dora 'forgot to get back to me' on my security deposit (for a month and a half) and when I called to press the point she took 20 minutes to explain that the 'cleaning fees' just so happened to precisely equal my security deposit (and that it was a mystery why I never got anything in the mail). What are the odds! Let's note that once she realized I had paid the final water bill (they had their money) she hung up on me on the spot (while I was talking). No kidding... she just hung up. I lived here for more than 4 years and the only bad times were when I had to interact with the property managers. They have clean, quiet apartments in a good location but the staff make every administrative interaction a trial in patience. First, the good! 1) Clean and quiet... it's gated back out of the way and most of the residents are private and polite. I should note that there were persistent bug problems but they were willing to act like landlords (and bring in pest control) with one notable exception, when my neighbor's cats spread fleas around the building and they got into my unit. On THAT occasion they were quite happy to let me know it was my problem after they sprayed (note that I keep a very tidy place, don't own pets, and ended up raid bombing until they were gone). 2) Maintenance is quick, professional, and friendly. No complaints about these guys... if only Dora, Jamie, and Alex could have learned something resembling customer service from this crew. 3) Parking is a breeze and the laundry room is *usually* working... although if machines break, you should note that the surly property managers will barely be able to contain their joy at this not being their problem. I really liked living there (except for move-in, package pickup, and last month when I had to deal with the office staff). There are four real issues to be prepared for if you're moving in: 1) The people managing this place are terrible. They used to be worse (they finally fired Jamie)... but at some point in the last 6-12 months, they must have been reprimanded. It didn't fix their rude, apathetic attitude but it did improve it! In any case, don't be fooled by the bubbly act they put on during the walkthrough... once they have your money, they'll go back to their real selves. God help you if you piss them off (and there seems to be a long list of reasons they get upset) as they will take any opportunity to provide a dead smile and bubbly, condescending voice while they stone-wall you over petty things (like getting your mail). Oh... and they're long lunches in the middle of the day are awfully handy if you try to get your mail (or do anything that requires their cooperation). Worse, they will bustle you right out if you rush home to try to catch them before they close up at 5:30. 2) The buildings are old. It's not a HUGE deal but the internet can be really spotty (and of course, they won't let the ONLY provider re-run the lines), but as I use the internet for work... it was a real issue and one they won't help with. Oh... and second floor rooms are a nightmare to cool and heat, so make sure to stick with the first floor! 3) Rent hikes are common, severe, and frequent. It used to be pretty affordable (when I moved in) for a small 1 bedroom... but they hike rent (all the traffic will bear) every chance they get. Every time my lease came up, the rent went up and strangely... it was always cheaper to rent for 9 or 10 months than for 12. Why is that? It's designed so they can more frequently hike rent when you go to renew. Put it this way... my affordable little $720 apartment (which they still advertise but I wish you luck getting) went up by more than $400 in the four years I was there. Watch out! 4) There is NO sense of community. This didn't bother me much (I mostly keep to myself) but there really is no sense that they care about the renters or that people are looking out for each other. Managing a rental property can be about more than getting free rent and making sure the tenants pay... but you'd never know it from Dora and the gang. If you can get a great deal, this can be a really nice place to live. I would REALLY like to be able to say nicer things about it but... the office staff (little as one sees or deals with them) are at best apathetic and distracted, at worst insufferable and actively hostile. read more

We moved from here in May but only because we need a 3 bedroom and to be farther South. These apartments are great for the price. There is ample parking, maintenance is friendly and prompt. We definitely had to call maintenance for some electrical issues but they were always prompt with answering our call. They are definitely older but worth the money I think. We've never had issues with bugs. The apartments are pretty secluded - people don't even realize they exist. Depending on what building you are in you could here the businesses in the plaza next door. There's a pool hall and you can hear them taking out the 2am trash but really it didn't bother us even being right next to the plaza. It's not really a kid friendly apartment as it has no playground equipment -- we took the apartment sight unseen when we moved from upstate NY and we very happy with it. One thing that irritated me the most was the failure of tenants to pick up their dogs crap even with apartment provided doggie waste bags and receptacles. We had a washer and dryer so weren't able to rate the laundry room. When we were asked to renew our lease they indicated that you could get upgraded appliances if you desired so they are doing updates as the units empty out. read more
