As soon as your book is ready, they email and text you. You can go anytime the library is open to pick up the book. I think they hold the book for several days, In case you can't come get it when it's ready. You pull up to the curbside spot and call the library. They bring it out within minutes. It's so fast and easy!! If the book isn't available, they put you in line for the book and text you when it is your turn to check it out.

The higher you go, the quieter it gets, which is great for focusing. Each floor has a mix of open tables and private rooms to study, so every student can find their own ideal spot. There are plenty of seating options, from regular chairs to comfy couches. The staff you see are almost always helpful if you need anything. I love coming here to study for tests/exams because I always get more Motivated. There are also so many resources available, and the Starbucks inside makes it easy to grab food without leaving the building.

It's so much more than just another university library. As soon as you walk in you are greeted with a huge pillar-type structure in the middle of the building. You'll find that if you go to the 5th floor there is a walkway to the middle of the pillar where there are group studies. It is truly beautiful to be able to see everything and just enjoy the views while studying. There are also study areas on every floor so it provides students with many options on where they would like to sit to study, whether that is group studying or using a private two-seater bookshelf seating to quietly study. The library also has a humongous Starbucks on the first floor where many of the students go to get a snack while they're working. Overall, there are so many resources available to everyone which makes this library stand out from many others.

I would like to wrap up my experience as serving on my grand jury experience here. Just today, I…read moreactually had overslept and I had to quickly put in my appeal, after calling back to the court. The admin, Cindy, had told me to email back and the judge was to decide my options. Thankfully, he released me from ever having to serve this year and I am so appreciative of that ( I was actually waiting to call back and see how the response would come- in a form of a summons O_o, a bench warrant :O?). Nope, just an email (see these are the things they do not tell you- you kind of fear it.) Honestly, I have to say that this was such a great experience and I have to thank all those prosecutors, who I interacted with and willingly to allow me into their cases. I feel that I am just a mere citizen of this city, I do not have any degrees in law and yet I had such a big responsibility for the last three days, or so I felt (April 2nd, 3rd and 9th) ! I would also like to thank the judge (forget his last name), the admin, and all who were involved in this experience. Who would have thought a release? I would have been fine with a "do not do it again." I have to say he was a pretty cool judge, he never really cared when we never stood up on the "all rise" as he entered (then again, there was no bailiff neither, so no one actually said it). I still did, it's so old school, like the Twilight Zone, that it would be a crime not to O_o (actually, I read somewhere that one COULD BE in Contempt of Court, if not doing so- not sure how that applies today) Thanks again Fayette County Circuit!

They have some neat fountains outside that sometimes the kids play in during warmer weather. There are also some undesirables hanging out around outside that can make a person feel uneasy but parking can usually be found in the garage across from or on the side street with a short walk. Just don't stop to chat with these folks. Check the hours for the entity you are going to see before you go or call ahead to make sure they will be open.

Located in a massive fortress building on a back road, adjacent to the Kentucky Vietnam Veterans…read moreMemorial, The Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives is the official repository for historical records of governments in the state of Kentucky, including its various (and numerous) counties. Its collections include microfilms and original paper records dating to the very beginning of Kentucky as a state. It is truly a treasure for preservation of KY history and service to researchers of various interests. The archives are open to the public which include novices, intermediate and advanced independent researchers. I had a very specific and abbreviated research mission during my visit in September 2022, so cannot being to comment about the overall extent of their collections and services. I initially inquired via email about the availability of the specific records I was looking for and received a quick, very helpful reply. Once there, a very helpful, knowledgeable and efficient staff and they had me up and running quickly. I found exactly what I had hoped to find (prove or disprove a family legend about a wayward ancestor). It was truly amazing to hold 220 year old records of my ancestors and very grateful that we the public are allowed to do that. But my main purpose here is to clarify some things that may not be clear to first-timers, like myself. Like all similar facilities, there are stringent rules that must be followed and are strictly enforced. Experienced researchers are used to them, Novices may not. So just deal with it. Some supplemental comments: - Out of the way location, but easy enough to find. 626 to Coffee Tree road, next to Kentucky Vietnam Veterans Memorial, which itself should be visited to pay tribute to the 1,048 soldiers who died and are honored there. - I overheard that cell phone service is poor/spotty. - Entry requires filling out a form with government ID at the guard desk. The guard will open the locked access door. - Items allowed to be carried in are limited and specific. Not at all unusual or unrealistic rule for facilities like this. Strictly enforced. - There are free lockers at the entrance for items not allowed. You will be given a key. - The hours are not clear. The overall facility is open 9-4, but the research room is open 9-11:30 and 1-4. You will leave for their lunch break 11:30 to 1:00. - Head out west on 626 for a couple miles to run into the usual fast food franchises. - If records are on microfilm, you must use that form, not the originals. - Two public rooms: microfilm and research. - To access originals, staff will prepare a request form after you have found the item on an index on microfilm and they will be called and delivered to the Research Room. Very fast, only 10 minutes or so. There will be a cut-off near the end of the day. - Desk space in Research Room IS limited. They advise reservations. When I was there on a Thursday, it was not busy. - Staff only makes photocopies. They are very accommodating as allowing very old, delicate records to be copied. - You may find that your very early records, like court proceedings, are written on what amount to scraps of paper bundles together. Treat them with care and keep them in order. - Verboten: Folders of any kind including even simple manila file folders, pens, briefcases, folios, knives, scissors, highlighters, food, drink, USB sticks (not sure why) and CD's (why would someone bring a CD there?). - Allowed: Laptops, pencils, note paper, loose papers, cameras, cellphones (ringers off!), overhead "book" style scanners, "hand scanners." Essentially you can photograph or scan documents as long as the scanner does not physically touch the object. That precludes flatbed scanners but allowed cell phone photos, camera photos and (presumably) overhead "book" scanners. - But ... the tables in the research room do not have outlets. - Your materials will be checked by the guard (a really nice, polite guy - this isn't the DMV) coming in and leaving. It is necessary to preserve the collection.

This marker in Midway is located along the tracks that run through town. It is easily legible and…read morethere is plenty of parking nearby. On the front, "Edward Dudley Brown. This well known African American horse owner, trainer, developer, and jockey was born into slavery, 1850. Raised as a stable boy near Midway, he was nicknamed "Brown Dick" after the record-setting racehorse of that name. Brown was associated with great horses such as Asteroid, Ducat, and Kingfisher." And on the reverse, ""Brown Dick" worked with Kentucky Derby winners Baden Baden (1877), Ben Brush (1898). He died at a friend's house in Louisville, May 1906 of tuberculosis and was returned to Midway for burial. He was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1984." It is marker number 2027 and it was erected in 1988 by the City of Midway and the Kentucky African American Heritage Commission. [Review 2039 of 2024 - 278 in Kentucky - 23060 overall]
