Sponsored by AARP, you are not required to be a member, retired or of a certain age for this free service. You will need a tax package which can be picked up at any library. Complete and take it, along with all your financial documents, a photo ID and Social Security Card to your appointment. My appointment took about 1-1/2 hours. They file your tax for you and give you copies of everything. I'd say it's worth it. Tip, call for an appointment in January so you can go to the location of your choice. 32

So many reviewers have commented on the historic building and it's beauty that has lasted through the years for one of the first Carnegie Libraries. The Library serves over 30,000 library users, and has over 70,000 books.. Your library card opens up a world of information. According to the library website " your library cards gives you access to computers, hot spots, printers, data bases, ebooks, and much more." As for research there is the Kentucky Room that offers historical information about both Shelby County and Kentucky. In my review I want to exclaim about all the Programs and Events this library sponsors for adults, teens, and children. As lsted on the library website there is; Slow Burn Book Clib, Yoga, Brown Bag Book Club, Preschool Story Time, Chair Yoga, The Writer's Group, Baby Storytime, Cardio Drummer's, and Tai Chi. I have also read with interest in our local newspaper that there is a librarian that specializes in helping people with tracing their roots and completing searches on family trees. In addition to all the regular programs this prize of a library sponsors all sorts of continual seasonal events. You have already had the chance to read about the iceless ice skating but thats not enough. Events listed on the library website include Merry Mug Makers for teens, LaBuBu Holiday Ornament workshop for teens, Merry Clarkin Christmas Party, Festive Movie Night playing " National Lampoons Christmas Vacation" and more. Libraries have changed through the years but I am thankful to have such a complete and active library. The only drawback to this library experience was not their fault when the local Reformation Church had members check out books "as an act of civil disobedience to remove books that did not agree with their beliefs and refuse to return them" Fear not the list of books was printed in the local newspaper and once again I'm thankful that the Shelbyville Community answered the call tenfold to replace the books and provide money for the future to expand topics of interest to ALL PEOPLE.

The architecture is lovely, and even the old church graveyard is out back near the parking lot. The library staff is very friendly. The hours are so nice and accommodating. There are plenty of computers for use. Tons of reading books, tables and privacy. There is a research-genealogy room. There is a separate floor for children's library and their own computers for their use.....nice touch!!! I joined a book reading competition and there are free classes for adult education offered here...Great library

Ok at first I thought this was gonna be some half library sort of thing but I was so wrong! The…read morepeople here love people and it shows. I'm used to the main branch but since finding this gem rarely visit any other branch. They have a good computer room and pretty good selection of books. It looks l they do but that's just bc they only have one copy instead of five. But the best thing here is their programming. They seem to have more family oriented programs than any other one. I think most employees speak Spanish which is nice for the Latino community so they feel welcome and included. Plus they get special funding to do more community events for kids. I've never had a bad experience with anyone for the last six months I've been coming which is more than I can say for the rest! I go around 3x a week and love it!

As a former employee of the Library of Congress, I have to admit that I'm a lover of books,…read moreinformation, and libraries. And, the Lexington Central Library did not disappoint! I have to confess though that, on this particular day, I was visiting in order to visit the rotunda which features the world's largest ceiling clock, a 5-story Foucault pendulum, and a frieze depicting the history of the horse on the Bluegrass. Beautiful! It was also clear that this is a "living library" -- with many patrons (including school students), signs for community events, and Ask a Librarian research assistance. There is a parking garage next door (the library validates for up to two hours) and some street parking.

I've patronized a lot of libraries and this one is pretty phenomenal. Every book I've wanted to see, they've had. They have a great periodicals section with pretty much every magazine that matters and the New York Times and Wall Street Journal in addition to the local and state newspapers. You can check out electronic books, digital music and even -- I kid you not -- a freaking fishing pole if you'd like to do a little angling at Scott County Park or on North Elkhorn Creek. This place even provides free notary service. It wouldn't surprise me if they'd even wash your car for you if you ask nicely. All in all, one of the best libraries I've visited and a great community asset for Kentucky's ninth-largest city.

Clearly this old lady has no clue as to her role as a Notary. Went to a local Attorney's office and they notarized it without any problems. Clearly the librarian was attempting to practice law without a license. The lady needs to be investigated as she is giving legal advice on international documents and has not a clue what she's talking about.

My friends mom told them they had permission on the computers but then the lady's said it was not…read morein their account even though we had been using the computer for the last few weeks without any problem they decided it was okay to come over and yell at us to get off the computers and fight with us even though they had already gotten a note that they were allowed and the previous week their grandma came in and gave them permission. Leave a like or comment if you think that the library needs to have nicer people and comment if they should not have yelled at young kids. And also post this everywhere to show how actually the library here in Woodford is run.
