Our intention was not to…read morebe in private school but the difference in everything from basis of education and the calm and attentive environment at Washington Montessori made us feel it was the best place for our child. I often thank the teachers for raising such a wonderful person. She is smart, very creative, a unique thinker and problem solver; she understands complexities in many areas, plays and reads music, enjoys art, nature, math, science, language. She has great friends and loves going to school every day. She is really known by all her teachers, each one "sees" her, her strengths and weaknesses, and they have all helped her grow, learn and change. We have a wonderful community of parents, kids and friends. One of my favorite experiences and when I really understood the Montessori method was when I participated in "The Voyage" - you spend a day as a Montessori child and learn as they do. I wept for the gift my child has with the education she is receiving and wept for what I missed as a child by not having it. I feel strongly that not every school is the right one for every child, but I feel so lucky that we have found the right one for ours.

On this given Saturday, I spent about half an hour walking through the various greenhouses. There are lots of interesting plants to look at - though many are not labeled - and in one of the building, the plants and flowers were for sale. There is also one area that was just for plants as part of the collection, which were really nicely curated and tended to. The community garden was also exquisite and quite dense. You have to be a member to participate, and you can tell that those who work in the garden know what they're doing. We saw some awesome tomatoes, rainbow chard, sunflowers, dahlias, and more. In what seemed like a routine email exchange, a comment I made was misconstrued as 'harassment' by an HR representative. Instead of resolving the misunderstanding, the department escalated the issue by contacting the police and issuing a formal trespass warning against me, despite my never having visited the campus. This disproportionate response has left me with a negative impression of the university's internal culture and personnel management.

About 4 years ago, I tried cutting my face. My weight is the highest it's ever been, and it only keeps getting higher. I have not finished college despite having gone to a prep school prior to attending the ASAT program. I feel inadequate about looking for a job. The only merit I can see in retrospect is the friendships I've formed. Oh, and the speech and language patgologist is nice too. I would advise against attending. In my eyes, Chapel Haven seems to define "independence" as "dependence on our services."

Look at the reviews for people who have been there 3, 4, 10 years. Why? It isn't free to do this - it's expensive. The point is to create independence, not create a line on the income statement. There were almost zero staff with experience with autism. Many different kinds of issues, including some that could be considered potentially dangerous. Autism does not need to be cured - it needs to be supported. There are those there with profound issues that may otherwise face institutionalization - they are staying at what could be about $82,000 per year (on our info sheet anyway). The classes were little more than YouTube shorts with no deliverables, taught by very inexperienced teachers. In short, this seemed to be a Haven for rich families who need to have their adults elsewhere. I would say that Anna K's review on this page sums up the experience nicely - horrible. Waste of money - ALOT of money.

They ensure success by fostering an environment that helps children learn and grow. Their dedication to the children is unsurpassed. I am a mother of 2 children, who are both currently enrolled in the school. I cannot say enough about Susanna Wesley (aka SWS) and it's staff. One of the most unique attributes of the school is the dedicated Music and Movement program, in which children participate through music and physical activity each day they are in school. The teacher who runs that program is an absolute jewel and SWS is so blessed to have her on board. As a parent, I feel welcomed and a true part of my child's early childhood education. I know my children are getting the best care and academic foundation to prepare them for elementary school. I love that there are dedicated classrooms for each level (3 yr olds, 4 yr olds,etc.). No more than 12 students per class. I thought that was a huge plus because the smaller classrooms allow the children to focus and build relationships with other children. I have noticed how much my children have grown. They are confident, independent and respectful of others. Though I'd like to take full credit on that, I know much of those skills have been gained from the caring teachers at SWS. I encourage you to contact the director and tour the Susanna Wesley School. You will not be disappointed!!!!
