I have recently been informed that my child will NOT be wearing a cap and gown at the graduation ceremony on Friday June 14, 2013, but the Full-Time Kindergarten children will be wearing a cap and gown! This brings me great disappointment, sadness, and quite honestly anger. This is simply UNACCEPTABLE! I am curious to know who decided that the part time Kindergarten classes were not to be given a cap and gown? They are all one graduating class, whether they are Part Time or Full Time. They are all practicing their "graduation" songs. They all sit in the same classroom and have the same teacher! It is just awful that ALL the students worked hard all year and most parents have worked hard with their children all year and now their accomplishments are going completely unnoticed! They will be at the graduation ceremony segregated!!!!! I, as a parent, feel my child deserves to wear a cap and gown and feel like he is one with his class. As parents, we deserve to see our child graduate or move up as a CLASS - what message is that going to send to the CHILDREN that only some kids were given a cap and gown to wear?? I would like to know how the person who made this decision would feel if this was his/her child and they were not "part of the class" because they only attended part time and how his/her child would feel as being different because they weren't given a cap and gown on their monumental occasion! I can almost be certain he/she, too, would be disappointed and angered by this situation. Maybe everyone should take a minute to think about it - really think about it if this was their child's year in Kindergarten and they were being overlooked! We were INVITED to the ceremony and signed up to bring stuff to the ceremony, but my child will not wear a cap and gown? Invitations were extended to grandparents and extended family, but to do what exactly? Video and take pictures of a graduating class with half the class in regular clothes and the other half in caps and gowns? How SILLY will that look! People are taking the day off of work or leaving early to make this event for what reason exactly? I'm sure they are expecting something MUCH more than what they are going to be getting. I have a feeling there is going to be many many disappointed and angry parents that will not be expecting something this ridiculous. I know I am not the only parent who feels this way since many other parents who were informed of this situation have also expressed concern to me. Obviously action needs to be taken. The only way to make this right is to order caps and gowns for the ENTIRE graduating class and have them over-nighted for Friday's ceremony. Hopefully we can get something done for our children who deserve something so much more than they are getting and us as parents want. I sincerely hope that this situation is rectified quickly. This "technicality" is something that will not be ignored by me.

The care and attention both of our children have received has been nothing short of exemplary. They've truly thrived at Little Pals, and we can already see how the foundation this school provided has played a big role in their success beyond preschool. It's a big thing to send your firstborn off to school. Harder still when that happens at the tail end of a pandemic like it did for us. Is this the right school academically? Will my child adapt socially? Will they thrive? Little Pals checked all the boxes and then some. They made our children feel safe, comfortable, and genuinely cared for, while also setting high academic standards. And they did an outstanding job with us parents too! Calming our nerves (especially this parent), and making everything feel right immediately. We've never doubted our choice for an instant. Our children leave Little Pals with a solid academic foundation: recognizing and writing letters and numbers, early sight words, counting to 100, and reading beginner books with confidence. Their handwriting improved tremendously; they developed strong problem solving skills and a genuine love of learning. They still talk about songs, lessons, and moments from class. It's incredible to see how far ahead they've been - both academically and socially - compared to where I remember being at that age. Communication is excellent. In addition to parent/teacher conferences and detailed reports, the teachers were always available to chat. I never felt rushed, and I can be quite talkative! There are field trips, an open house, Christmas concerts, and family night, all of which made us feel connected to the school and involved in our children's early education. There are always activities and plenty of pictures. Our kids made friends - and we made friends too! We've experienced just about every aspect of Little Pals, from the toddler room to aftercare for our first grader. Our kids attended summer camp here, and even brought their cousins along! That's how much we trust and value this place. I truly cannot say enough good things about this school. Little Pals has given our children not only a loving and nurturing environment, but a true head start in life--academically, emotionally, and socially. Thank you Little Pals, for everything!

I am a single mother and was up here completely alone. I realize now this was a terrible decision, probably the worst of my life thanks to Carol Filmanski's actions, but I had hoped it would work out. On March 3, 2015, I was in the city working when I received the email that school was closing early. I frantically rushed to Grand Central but missed the 11:43 train by 3 minutes. So I was forced to take the 12:43 train. That puts me to Garrison where I would normally pick up my daughter from rec after school. Knowing I would get to her probably 10 minutes after dismissal from school today, I called (mind you, at this point I am sobbing hysterically in Grand Central). I begged Kelly and Carol Filmanski to please have someone stand with her on the playground until I got there at 2:10. Ten minutes!! Carol told me they would put my 6 year old on the bus and maybe my landlord could get her. She also told me I need an emergency plan. My daughter has never ridden the bus and would not have even known where to get off. Our driveway is incredibly steep and no one would've been home. Is this truly how you would've handled this situation?! I understand needing a plan. Normally when it's going to snow I do not even go into the city at all. But as a parent, can you understand the sheer panic I experienced when someone from my daughter's school threatened to simply cast her out on her own, in the snow no less?! I lost all trust in the school district that day and pulled her out of school there completely. Carol Filmanski is a disgrace to the district and quite frankly the Earth and should be fired or not allowed to work near children. What a horrible human being! Absolutely disgusting! I did reach out to the pricipal and he agreed to meet with me. I'm sure he felt bad about how it was handled, but as long as Carol was employed by the district I wouldn't feel safe sending my child there.
