We often come here from Norwich for a day out as there is so much to do…read more First, there are some lovely walks in this beautiful, mostly pine forest. With our small children we tend to take the route that includes all the fantastic wooden play sculptures. This means every few hundred yards or so you come across a wooden rabbit, bird, squirrel and so on designed to be explored with slides, fireman poles, ladders etc This keeps them going all the way round and they have a lot of fun. There are also some fantastic cycle routes available, different trails according to the level of difficulty. If you are a seasoned mountain biker you may wish to bring your own bike, on the other hand if you just want to have a taste of what it is like there are bikes available for hire by the hour or longer. We hired some once with a kids trailer fixed to the back of the bike and our girls loved it! There is a lovely open grassy area near the High Lodge Visitor Centre where you can play your own ball games too. We have been with a large party before and had a great day here using that area, hiring the barbecues to cook our lunch on and exploring the adjacent adventure play area. The centre itself has a gift shop and largish restaurant if you don't feel like bringing a picnic. There is a small charge of £6 to enter Thetford Forest if you park at High Lodge. Well worth it when you consider a family can have a brilliant day out for that amount!

Not for those scared of heights, there are plenty of Zip wires.. the longest one is 133m long and the highest point in the course is 36ft high. Prices are fairly high -25 for an adult and 20 for 10-17yr olds, but worth it as a special treat. There are other locations throughout the UK but Thetford was the first one created. Set in Thetford forest it is a great day out, with lots of walks and you can walk around underneath the ropes course if you are not participating so can get up close to take photos etc.

Children will have hours of fun whilst adults can sit and relax with a bar and seating area. I'm not sure how much entry is, but it used to be expensive a few years ago. Great if you want to keep the kids entertained for a few hours though!

There is a seating area for the adults which gives a fairly good view of the huge soft play area so keeping an eye on the kids is not too hard but the seating area is not really big enough and does not tend to be very clean or well looked after. There are several attendants positoned in and around the soft play area who range from those who obviously love their job and working with children to those who are really uninterested which is a bit of concern when childrens safety is at stake especialy on things like the big vertical drop slide.

In the middle of the Norfolk countryside somebody has had the foresight to create a nature reserve with a lovely selection of the world's deer and birds. The swimming classes take place in the heated pool, under very knowledgeable instruction, and last 20 mins each sounds short, but it is plenty for the tiny bubs. Baby massage classes are an hour, and there's always time, space and opportunity to socialise with other mums after class. Biscuits and hot and cold drinks are offered. Great atmosphere! Apparently, a cafe will open there soon, so this will be a great place for mums and their little ones (dads are of course welcome!). The only negative point: the changing rooms at the pool were supposed to be heated but always felt too cool for the little ones not good after swimming.
