We had dinner here too and we both loved the food, now a special mention to the soon to be World famous scotch eggs made by the very talented chef. They have to be tried, so scrumptious. Christmas pudding ice cream, maple syrup ice cream too and the cheese board...everything was so tasty!! Hotels like this a real gem, every single member of staff were knowledgeable about the area, hotel and food they were also very polite and very friendly. We will return very soon....now how about starting mail ordering scotch eggs??

I ordered six of them and one of them is so small it shows me through the cook in the kitchen literally does not careand what they serve with the customers is completely inconsequential to them. Shame on you guys.

It is a large restaurants, so good for groups and they have a lovely outdoor seating area, where I see lots of people having drinks in when the weather is nice outside. The first time I went, lunch was kind of an after thought, but we ordered anyway. The person I was with will eat just about anything... so I don't know that he had a problem with his fish and chips. I had the smothered chicken... a chicken breast grilled with bacon, cheese, and BBQ sauce. It actually wasn't too bad, but the extra things on the plate were kind of hit and miss. Not sure why there was garlic bread, but that sent across to the other plate. The chips were soggy, the dressed salad was ok, really... the only side I liked was the coleslaw, but that's because I thought it went with the chicken. The second time I went, it was because we could not find anything open. The Welshman had the roasted chicken and seemed to like it, although as roasted chicken goes, I would have been surprised if they were able to mess something that simple up. I'm not entirely sure what I had... I remember I did not really enjoy it and did leave a lot left on the plate. Whatever it was, it wasn't memorable. Anyway, it might be a nice place for drinks and convenient if you don't mind chain pub food. They do offer low prices, which I assume is why the parking lot is usually full on weekends.

The surroundings are absolutely stunning - low beams, gorgeous furnishings. I would like to say a roaring fire, because it was single digits outside and almost as cold in the bar - but sadly, no, the fireplace was empty! The Royal & Angel was originally built around 1203 and has recently been restored to its former glory. If you want to sip a drink in salubrious, beautiful surroundings, you've come to the right place. However, it appears that history has a hefty price tag - two small bottles of Corona set us back six quid! Perhaps the reason why we were the only people in the bar apart from two other suckers. And also the reason why much as we enjoyed the beauty of our surroundings, we probably won't return.

I stayed here recently as part of a larger party. The hotel is probably the best large hotel in…read morePeterborough and is very central, and has a large car park. The reception was very efficient and the room was comfortable, though the décor was a little like a chain (weird bright 80s style curtains). The interior is a bit of a maze and the interior signage could do with some improvement - it took a couple of goes to find our room (not good with heavy luggage). Breakfast was OK, but service was very slow on the first day - they were a bit overwhelmed, and the system where the hot buffet, toast and tea and coffee are served (as opposed to being part of the buffet) meant we had to wait. The choice was also a bit limited - the breakfast area was surprisingly cramped. Things were much improved on the following day. Our evening meal was very nice though, and the bar area is very pleasant. I had two problems during my stay, one dealt with better than the other. The first was a problem with the automatic entry into the car park, which wasn't working properly, and I could not raise help on the intercom (I had to wait ten minutes on the street to get in). The front desk were very apologetic, but the promised explanation from management never came. Then I found a piece of plastic in my pasta on the second evening. The manager was immediately and extremely apologetic and offered free drinks as an apology, which was, in the circumstances, the best way of resolving the problem. Check out - often a failing of hotels - was swift and efficient. Staff throughout were friendly and approachable. So, not a problem-free stay, but I may have been unfortunate. Better (simpler) management of the breakfast would lift things.

The steak was over cooked and under seasoned. This would be the 3rd time I've been here, the first was GREAT, second was ok, 3rd never again. 200£ bill for 4 people and nothing really was on par. (They also had extra charges on the bill for a glass of wine when we bought a bottle. So, every part of this was just no good. (They never updated the menu online so when we went, we had to try and scramble to figure out what we wanted as well as they had one vegetarian option that was horrible.) I don't know if it's under new management or new ownership, but def need to bring back the person that was running it March of 24.
