Moving them from Lamplighter was very timely as they were craving structured environments that had rigorous academics. I am thrilled that they have been able to pursue their passions - including theater, sports, volunteerism, so many clubs, and leadership opportunities. Don't let the small class size fool you, it is a blessing! There are tons of opportunities for growth and they encourage the students to shine based on their own merits. Contrary to that negative yelp post from way too many years ago (P.S. You can't blame a child's drug habit on the school. That's called observant & disciplined parenting), the administration keeps a close eye on the students and alerts the parents quickly to concerns or behavior shifts. I can confidently say that we have parented in partnership with the school to raise smart, respectful, creative, athletic, well-balanced students. And Lakehill's focus on college prep is indeed a strength. The college counselor Ms. Dondis is a highly acclaimed professional - even a sought after expert speaker in her field. I feel as though he is a mature, respectful, well-prepared middler who I expect to achieve a very sold, college readiness experience. In terms of technology, the school does use lots - iPads, laptops, labs..... fairly typical of what I expect from a school such as this. The most important part of my observation is that he is happy and likes to go to school. I'm impressed. When I lived and taught in Dallas, I had no idea what this school was until a colleague left my school to teach there. That was 1997 - and he is STILL THERE! Since then another friend left his school to teach there. At this point it got my attention. Then they hired a marketing director, and the school started appearing more and more in the paper - like a LOT. Service projects became popular and a mainstay, and it was clear there was a strategic plan executed that included some serious "play," which has paid off; all of these things, my nephew participated in. It's a best kept secret for sure. From a community member perspective, living in the Lakewood area was a good experience, and I was able to participate in their fund raisers (Trek For Tech, among others), even though I didn't have kids in the school. Overall, if you are looking for a private school, you may be immediately enamored with the "big 5 (St. Marks, Cistercian, ESD, Hockaday, and Ursuline), and there are HUGE merits to each of them, but Lakehill prep is not to be missed.

In October 2021, my black daughter was called the n-word by a white student. Simply because he…read morethought it would be funny and embarrassing to do so. My daughter acted immediately to inform the AP and share her witnesses. Once home she also informed her parents. However, I was never notified by the school. The next morning I arrived to talk to the AP who acknowledged his error in not informing us (however, this lack of communication continued as I had to consistently follow-up). The AP shared my daughters account of the situation was accurate. I stated given the hateful nature of intimidation and bullying, the child should be removed from my daughters classes as well as receive out of school suspension. Neither occurred. The overarching theme in the handling of this has been to dismiss and ignore. The messaging to my daughter and our family has been- its okay. As an adult female who has lived in several parts of the country I have NEVER had this experience- yet, while at HPMS, my 13 yr old daughter has. For the record, this behavior is UNACCEPTABLE. Given the lack of response and concern, this behavior will not only continue at HPMS but fester. It is apparent the safety of their students- both mentally and physically- is not a priority and I will be removing my daughter from the district.

The school feels like a freaking prison. The staff doesn't do their job well, the program sucks when it comes to performing arts, and most of all, students here are unrealistic. Always making me feel like an adult here and I'm a student. Last year I tried my hardest to address the teachers and Mr. Flourie about non-black students saying the N-Word. None of them did a single thing to actually prevent this problem. For example, I came to Mr. Flourie's office and addressed him about the boys who I have told constantly to stop saying the N-Word. He said he understood and he knows a lot of students come to him about this situation. I also told him if he could bring every student to the auditorium and tell them what the word means. And told him if he doesn't then I'll do it myself. Later on, he actually came into my biology class and told everyone not to say it. And that's all. You can't just come into a classroom and expect the students to stop saying it. As an African American it feels very offensive to hear it come out of any non-black person's mouth like it's a word we use as a joke. This is a school I'll be giving no stars to, I will not recommend you to go here. Most parents and students here share their problems with the staff but sometimes it's never solved. The security guards are the people who make the experience feel like a prison, especially the council for me. If they see you walk in the hallway, like two times, they'll say, "You've been walking in this hallway too much," usually it's the 10th grade sophomore who says things like that, always being exaggerated with students. Then the female security guard who wears braids is the one who always yells at children for the smallest reasons. She wants to find a problem with every little thing, if there was a student who's in a marching band and eating next to the hallway during lunch, she'll literally scream at them. This security guard is jealous of almost half of the students there at school. The sophomore council and the security guard are mainly the two people who make me feel like I'm in a prison. I have a lot of problems at this school and honestly I'm done with everyone... If you're planning on going to this school I sure do hope you have a better experience than me. Since she walks around with papers in her hand, she needs to take notes on how to fix the school instead of picking on teachers, students, and staff. She will be the reason many more kids will stop showing up. She should've built her way up. I'm highly, highly disappointed.
