If you're a vampire, transgendered travelers stuck in Croatia, a bodyguard for a famous actor, a lonely farmer or a gay artist, there was probably a romance book somewhere in the store written just for you. Very welcoming to everyone and anyone. One downside is that the store had some sort of aromatic diffuser, and it was a little too strong for someone like me who is very sensitive to artificial smells.

Instead of shelving everything under one broad "romance" section like most bookstores, they had little signs for different tropes and subgenres--billionaire romance, mafia, fantasy, aliens, and so many more. It was such a refreshing way to browse and made it easy to find exactly what I was in the mood for. I also think the concept of pairing a romance bookstore with a sex shop is incredibly unique. The two are separated into different sections of the store, so if you're only interested in browsing books, you never have to enter the sex shop area. I thought that was a really smart layout because it lets people enjoy whichever part they're comfortable with. I highly recommend checking this place out if you're a romance reader. It's one of the most thoughtfully organized bookstores I've visited, and I'll definitely be back.

Oh, I wasn't expecting much from such an ambitious-sounding name as "the comic book store," but I have to say...it really is THE comic book store to go to! I stayed here for several hours combing through their back issue bins, and I still didn't get through all of them. The place is split into two buildings--one for toys and the other for comics. I only went into the comic building, which, although small, it's undoubtedly mighty in terms of service and selection. I was highly impressed by the staff that day, which made me feel welcome and even chatted with me about various books and storylines, just like the best local comic book shops do. It really was an enjoyable experience. And I found many hidden gems I never thought I'd find at such fantastic prices. I will certainly come back to this place again whenever I'm in the area.

The back issues bins have been upgraded from endless rows of beat-up white paper boxes to a beautiful and easier-to-sift-through shelving system with integrated display bins. The books in that section are two dollars a piece. They also have an extensive new release section and individually priced back issues to go with the higher-priced wall books on display behind the counter. The store owner is friendly and welcoming, too. He can either talk to you all day about comics or just be quiet and let you do your thing. The place is super clean, and on-street parking is easy and convenient, too.

I've been using the store since they were in Woodbury, NJ I moved around the corner some 20 years ago. I still use them now. Even when there were other Christian book stores within driving distance The Joshua Tree has always been my first choice.
