If you go to the second and third floor you'll find nice little study spots. The second floor has little comfy chairs that line the wall allowing for students to sit and study. Even better, go one floor up where it's almost all offices and there's an entire wall of booths! I didn't find this area until this semester, which makes me sad because it's such a little gem. It's quiet because it's all offices creating a really quiet but open environment for students to study. Bonus for outlets being below the booths as well. If you're looking for a quiet study spot that will almost always be empty Bridge Hall is a good place to look.

Basic field lights for filming with white reflectors, c-stands, and cameras that looked as nice as the Panasonic HVX I was operating. I'm not surprised that this girl who is younger than my niece has created something amazing in the profession that I'm in. That's what A Place Called Home is all about. Teaching super-awesome creative skills with actual hands on experience to at-risk youth. Or at least that's what I got out of it for the tiny 4 hours I spent there. I was shooting coverage of the band Glitch Mob who was visiting the kids to teach them about music. After Glitch Mob taught the kids a few cool tricks of the trade, the kids got to show off their talents to the working professionals. Kids free-style rapped, sang songs, played videos that were uploaded, and played tracks that were recorded and mixed. They're stuff was GOOD! I was bobbin' my head to it! It looked like Glitch Mob loved spending time with the kids! They even asked the kids for demos to take with them! Mad props to Sabrina who organized today's event! She is the music instructor and studio engineer at APCH. What she does for these kids is provide them with the opportunity to do great things that will help shape their futures. Major HIGH FIVES to that!!! This organization seems like a really cool safe haven for kids. And these kids are eager to learn cool things from people that do cool things. There was a wealth of much looked-for information which reaffirmed to me, this was the TEAM that I wanted to join. I attended CCF 2-day weekend training this past weekend. Celia was our Master Coach. The training was intense at times, yet, very educating. I'm certain that I have learned more in those two days, than I could have learned in the regular courses of 6-months to a year. Celia was very patient and thorough to ensure, "No student was left behind." Two years prior to my son being ready for preschool we began a search for the most appropriate…read moreprogram for him. During that time, we observed every type of approach imaginable. Reggio, Montessori, church-based, home-based, academic, private and public. Seriously, no rock went unturned. Walking into John Tracy was immediately impactful. The campus is secure with a gate and cameras at the opening. I can't tell you how many schools I was able to walk into off the street. The grounds are also immaculate. It is absolutely the cleanest preschool we saw. That includes the private ones priced at $25k and above. There's a real sense of pride shared by every individual in every position at JTC. I spent extensive time over the course of a few weeks speaking with and emailing the director Angie, and observing the classroom. Courtney is a wonderful teacher. She's caring and has clear, consistent boundaries for the students. The school also has a world class counselor in Mary Beth who is always available to offer strategies and support. The entire team at JTC also facilitates weekly parent classes. As an added bonus, Mt. Saint Mary's partners with the school through a grad students program throughout the year. This was important to us as it allowed for constant 1:1, often more than that, interaction for our son. Additionally, the class is always being observed either in the room, or through an attached observation area. The teachers and administrators are always on their A-game and available to parents. When it came down to choosing a program we selected JTC because of all the above and the one intangible we didn't find elsewhere. I unequivocally trust them with my child, period. Their approach to each child as an individual is anchored by relationships with the parents. They make a real attempt to include us as part of the JTC family. In all of this, I've yet to mention the fact that the school is primarily for children with cochlear implants and severe hearing loss. My son has neither of these. If he did, the program is considered as one of the best in the business. They combine best practices and developmental expectations as all of the children will be moving on to kindergarten. Some in traditional school settings, and some in mixed hearing loss/traditional programs. My son is still able to work on his own academic pace, and interact with children his own age as he would in a more traditional preschool program. These children may have hearing impairments, but are just like any other 4-year-old you encounter. We took a chance to do something a little outside the box, and I have zero regrets. Our experience at JTC will stay with our family and my son in particular for a lifetime. We are indelibly grateful to this program. I truly couldn't say enough good things about this school, staff and parents we've encountered.

Oh, and I forgot to mention the huge Morton bay fig tree in the front yard, which is the soul of the whole preschool.
