In the old Civic Centre, surrounded by the finest municipal buildings Cardiff has to offer, lies Cathays Park.
A haven for workers on their lunch break, or students from nearby campus buildings enjoying a skive, this compact and exceptionally well-manicured park features tidy Victorian-style floral displays, a path that lends itself to strolls of both the meditative and romantic variety, and, as a centrepiece, a grand memorial to Cardiff's fallen is the last great wars.
Cathays Park is one of those can't-miss walks if you're with someone from out of town, as it's a pleasant combination of grand historical buildings and impressive foliage.
I must admit, it's not one of my favourite parks, as it can be a bit too crowded for my liking (I prefer Bute Park/Taff Trail myself), but one shan't complain about parks in this fair city - beats out a car park or high-rise apartment buildings any time! read more
