We often over look the teachers that teach our kids in the most subtle and profound ways. I wanted to take a moment to recognize two of these teachers in my children's lives. Three of my four children have been attending Jin Martial Arts for almost a year. Master Brett and Master Jeff never fail to amaze me with how they teach, guide and run their school. Both Master Brett and Master Jeff have unwavering patience with children of all ages. I have had the pleasure of watching the Tiny Tornadoes class while my 6 year old was in it and their ability to keep 4 -6 year olds focused and showing respect is impressive. Master Brett has a remarkable way of speaking to kids, especially this younger age group. He speaks to them on their level while not speaking down to them and puts some of life's most valuable lessons in words that they can process and understand. Master Jeff is equally patient and kind. As the kids move up in classes, the expectations change while always remaining age appropriate. Students' personal growth is the focus. The growth I have seen in my children since starting classes at Jin Martial Arts has been tremendous. It goes without saying that they have grown physically, my 11 year old daughter can do push-ups. As a parent, the growth that may not be as obvious; confidence, respect, taking responsibility for their actions, treatment of siblings, just to name a few; is invaluable. Master Brett and Master Jeff truly care for their students and want to see them succeed, the theme being to improve yourself and try your best. They have created an environment that parents can feel welcome in and that we are all there to support each other and the students; they have created a village. It is hard to find words to describe the positivity and kindness that Master Brett and Master Jeff have created. Positivity and kindness feel like a cliche that doesn't fully explain the teaching style and community that is Jin Martial Arts. It is so much more than that. Master Brett and Master Jeff are true leaders and teach above all else by example of how they conduct themselves. They are teaching more than martial arts; they are teaching how to be better. They give our future hope. Watching them interact with our youth is refreshing and humbling. To Master Brett and Master Jeff, thank you. Thank you for all you do for our kids. It matters. -Emily Ciarletto (Landon, Valerie and Everett's mom)

We first joined ACE Taekwondo in Yorkville back in February 2021, when my daughter--then in the…read moremidst of a full-blown Naruto obsession--begged to become a "ninja". To be honest, I was hesitant at first. My daughter had tried T-ball previously and lost interest quickly, and I worried Taekwondo would be another short-lived hobby. The commitment felt long, and while the cost was reasonable for area martial arts classes, it felt like a risk if she didn't stick with it. On top of that, we were still deep in the pandemic: my daughter wore a mask to every class, and I waited outside in the car. But she loved it. Despite all the challenges, she kept showing up to class, excited and engaged. As Covid restrictions lifted, I started coming inside to watch occasionally, but mostly kept to myself--I'm not much of a "people person." Still, as the months turned into years and my daughter worked her way toward her black belt, I realized this wasn't a passing phase. Her dedication inspired me. Eventually, I started bringing my toddler to the Toddler classes and got to know Master, Instructor White, and the other instructors. When my daughter earned her deputy belt and began preparing for her black belt test, I decided to join her on the mat. I signed up for Taekwondo and, being an overachiever, added Hapkido too! A year later, my daughter and I had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to travel to South Korea with ACE for an international tournament and cultural trip. It was amazing to share this experience--and our training journey--together. If we stay on track, my daughter will earn her 2nd Dan (2nd degree black belt) on the same day I receive my 1st black belt. I can't think of a better milestone to share as a family. Now, my 4-year-old is also a Tiny Tiger at ACE. The instructors are wonderful, and the kids we've met through ACE are some of the kindest, most respectful kids I've ever known. They truly embody the tenets of Taekwondo, and ACE is helping shape future leaders in our community. I am so proud to be part of the ACE family. If you're looking for a place where your child--and your whole family--can grow in confidence, discipline, and community, I highly recommend checking out ACE Taekwondo!

Mason my 10 year old has been with Master Yu at Yong-in Aurora for 2 years now. My son has more or less moderate functioning autism. He struggles tremendously with friends and peers and thrives on structure and goals. He is an amazing kid however we felt like he lacked a sense of extracurricular socializing. We live in a bubble those of you I'm sure can relate and ever since the day he met Master Yu his eyes had been forever glowing with learning Taekwondo. He has accomplished becoming a red belt as of today and I kid you not Master Yu has a gift to form this bond and trust with my son that makes me as a parent Soooo happy. Mason has idolized Master Yu so much that if I feel I have any concerns at home or at school he is able to relay that to him during his sessions. Let's face it our kids don't always listen to mom and dad but the discipline and structure he is able to grasp from his Master is mesmerizing. I can go on and on but honestly my son has been blessed to have met such a kind, caring, motivating and extraordinary person that's definitely leaving permanent footprints in his life that will go with him into adulthood and really give him a sense of belonging to something he cares for with all his heart. We don't ever want to part with Master Yu as he's been a godsend for us. It's worth it you won't believe me until you try. Trust me Go for it!
