World market is one of my all time favorite decor shops and this location has all you want and more! Their home decor accessories and little trinkets are all superb and I can get lost in this store for hours. The only downside to this location is the service is pretty awful; it's incredibly challenging to find anyone on the floor, there is always a huge line with one or two cashiers and the cashiers usually can't do much or don't know as much as maybe they should as almost everything requires a manager to come over (which also always takes a while). Regardless of service, I will never get sick of World Market and all of their amazing home finds! I always wait for the sales they have going on throughout the year to snag items at a discounted price. After a major holiday, all leftover holiday decor goes on a crazy sale so I always stop by immediately after a holiday ends! read more

The store appears much more open with less inventory than in the past. Some of the items available are bath/spa and personal care products, lamps, window treatments, and affordable furniture. In addition, they carry many choices of kitchen essentials and consumables, as well as a varied selection of teas and coffees. If one is not in a rush, there are many items to be discovered. So I bought a lot of holiday items which was great I found most of what I was looking for. I went on a Sunday and it was super busy! They're constantly changing this store dependent on the season. They have great prices on international goods. The restrooms can be iffy. Some of the furniture smells weird like pesticides. The bakeware and kitchen gadgets are nice. Drink selection is decent as well. Also great place to find some of those more rare flavors of drink syrups and spices! Overall I like this store I come here a lot. I found and ordered precisely what I was looking for on WM's website, and arranged for in-person pick-up. The following day I made it in, did a bit of additional browsing, discovered a few other perfect little gift items, then headed to checkout. The helpful clerk quickly retrieved my carefully-packaged online order, rang up my additional items, and away I happily went. I find a lot of the decor items to be a bit overpriced but the store does offer good deals when they have promotions. I just picked up some beautiful stockings, ornaments, and lots of great candy for a very good price. I think everyone knows this chain.... but this one in SLO is one of the nicer ones in terms of customer service. One nice young fellow went out of his way to help me & some other customers. Another one pointed out the clearance section. Of course the gourmet international foods are not cheap....but they are not much more than in Whole Foods & are far more diverse. This area of the Central Coast has very few ethnic groceries. ...but besides this place, there is: Debu on Price St. in Pismo Beach with tons of Asian & Filipino goods at great prices. Enjoy Euro Deli in AG on Grande Ave. next to the Dollar Tree ...for all kinds of Eastern European & other goodies (they also made all kinds of homemade soups & food that you can eat there..like Borsht...yum). There is also a small Indian place near Morro Bay. Anyway, despite the slim Chinese section in Cost Plus, it is fun to browse. Sadly, they have very few local wines. ...as opposed to the amazing selection at Von's in Grover or at Cal Fresh. They do have a interesting beer selection & several types of good Belgian beers. Shopping at Cost Plus World Market is like a mini-trip to exotic lands! Ever since I experienced the original store on the Piers in San Francisco, I love the hand crafted feel of many of the arty objects they sell, as well as the straight up good design of many of the furniture pieces. My closet is full of their "Campaign" series shelves, which hold all my goods for a fraction of the price of the usual closet systems. I got a set of their now standard oval backed velvet seat chairs with a matching table for my home, and love the driftwoody greige color. Our outside patio table is an end of the season Cost Plus find. Probably best of all are the decorations for every imaginable season. Each year there is a new style, and I save them from year to year, reusing favorites. My most recent purchase was a petite set of four stoneward bowls, each a different shade of brown, perfect for sauces and snacks of the season. Each time I visit, it is a trip of discovery, so I look forward to the next journey! read more

I love Cost Plus but this store's customer service is terrible. I ordered an item online to pick up which their site said "order today before 5pm for same day pick up", which I did at 6:30am. I never received a call, text, or email it was ready. I showed up at 2pm and a woman said she was supposed to call me and let me know it hasn't been unloaded from their truck and wouldn't be that day, nor couldn't guarantee it the next day either. The saleswoman even had the audacity to ask me why I would wait last minute to order something I needed that day. Ummm, first thing, your site said I CAN get it the same day. Second thing, it's none of your f***ing business!!! Thank god I don't live in that area otherwise, I would never shop Cost Plus again. The one by me has excellent customer service. I probably won't buy online from them anymore though. read more

Buying online is a nightmare. They have no carts for physically handicapped and customer service is nonexistent. Wish they had longer hours. So if you are in a wheelchair you can expect not to be able to shop here like so many other discrimination against handicapped. read more

Cost Plus World Market is such a great, fun, fascinating store! A few years ago, I was visiting my younger sister in CA, and I had never been in World Market before. She thought I'd love it, so we went in, and she was right. Love this store! I was living in Dubai, and at the end of every summer, I'd come to visit her, and we'd shop at World Market. Now that I've moved back to the US and actually live in CA, I've introduced my husband to World Market. He loves that store, too! We've bought a number of items there, from the Himalayan Pink Organic Popcorn to various furniture (for the living room and home office)! And I owe a sincere apology for running my mouth about wine. I love World Market. If I'm ever in a city that has one there is a 75% chance I'll try to make it out to one. Why? Weird beer, kitsch, and really beautiful furniture pieces. With the furniture you get a very worldly feel from them even though the price tag will often leave you feeling ":O" I've had so-so customer service from here in the past, but I'm so focused on what I'm getting that I don't even care about an employee greeting me (which they don't). Depending on what time you go the lines can either move very quickly or at a snail's pace. This location is definitely the cleanest, most well-stocked/well-organized World Market I've ever been to even though their bathroom is always dingy and messy when I've gone into one. I'll always come here though. There's only one in the area so I will make do! read more

Short version: Customer service was the worst I've ever experienced. I went in on Black Friday and it was crazy, as expected. The cashiers were incredibly rude, and even mocked an elderly disabled woman when she failed to hear that a register was open. I understand Black Friday is stressful, but there's no reason to take it out on the customers. I purchased the entire Downton Abbey tea set because it was advertised as 50%. The red sale sign was on the end of the aisle right below the set. When I got to the register, it didn't ring up as 50% off so I had to go back to have it fixed. The manager came and rudely told me they weren't part of the sale. I showed them the sign and they took it off, but told me they'd honor the deal since it was "confusing." I was grateful for that, but I had to sit there was the manger gave me attitude the entire time she was doing the refund. I had also used a 15% coupon, so the refund was confusing to process. I had to take out all of my items to re-scan and buy them again. My refund wasn't processed correctly, but I was only charged an extra $5, and it wasn't worth it to put up with the managers attitude again. I don't live in San Luis, so I just got home tonight and went through my bag. They didn't give me back all of my items!!! I was missing a spoon set. I should have checked before I left, but it was so crazy in there that I just wanted to get out. I figured I could just call and they'd set it right. Ha, boy was I wrong! The local store said they couldn't do anything for me and they didn't keep records of forgotten items. Ok, somewhat understandable. I called corporate and asked if they could do something...the lady literally told me "There's nothing we can do. You're out of luck." I would also like to make clear that I didn't yell or even get upset with any of the people I talked to. They're just employees who don't control anything. But I'm astonished that they weren't willing to do ANYTHING for me. Not even a lousy coupon to use when I have to now rebuy the item. I'm extremely disappointed with my experience. read more

I love this store. It's probably as close to some cultural diversity as you can get in San Luis Obispo. Problem is they don't open on time. If you go as soon as they open expect to wait. This kind of is a pattern in San Luis Obispo where places don't really open at exactly the time advertised. I think it has something to do with it being a college town. They have such a great selection of items from all over the world and they are laid out in the store in a manner that they are easy to find. During Christmas, all store get a little cramped but World Market does a good job of keeping everything organized. I needed to grab some stocking stuffers and I found what I needed right away due to their perfect displays, advertising the prices, going through the bins, it was perfect. Until I am making bank to afford crystal china and expensive wine glasses, I will continue to come here to create my bar set-up. My bf bought me a complete bartender set (shakers, stirrers, the whole deal) and left it up to me to get martini glasses. Immediately I knew I would come here to get them. I got my champagne glasses here for $1.99 and they have worked out great. I loved that they have such a large selection of barware, I settled on some cute glasses that are not the typical martini glass look. I also opted for a couple more wine glasses (two of my Target glasses broke) and a bamboo spoon. I swear I come into this place and go crazy and decided that I want everything in the store and attempt to buy it. This time the bf was around to snap me back into the reality of our economy and the fact that we are furloughed two days a month. They also have a great selection of international chocolate. I bought a ton of German chocolate for an Oktoberfest program I was doing and I spent about 20 minutes trying to choose what I wanted to get.
